Customer wants us to drive on the property's walkway to deliver the merchandise as close as possible

- We pulled up to do the delivery with a bunch of uncertainties and unclear directions and then when the customer comes out he has the odd request to have us drive across the walkway on the premises.... there is 3 issues with that number one the tires of the forklift are wider than the walkway, The tires on the forklift could leave ruts in the lawn and not to mention that the weight of the forklift could possibly crack the walkway. let us know what you think in the comments section below! as always we appreciate you watching please make sure you leave a like comment subscribe as all of those things will help you to have rhythm get our videos out there to more people some more people like you can enjoy them!
At least he didn't argue when you said it was a no go. I delivered and installed mattresses and adjustable bases. There is no end to the ways a customer will figure you can do a job that they have no idea about.
"No I can't set your adjustable base on top of 4 small pieces of unbalanced wood, that would void the warrenty."
Equipment has limitations. In my book it's solid ground or pavement. If there were other construction vehicles on the lawn you might have an idea, but not in this case. You just never know where the septic fields or other buried utilities are.... and you don't want that liability.
People don't understand, the paperwork has a order number that matches the number on the package, or bundle. The driver doesn't look through the order to see what it is or what the material is.
Most people also don't understand you can refuse a delivery if it's not right. Most people will still accept orders with things missing but that usually requires the shipper to verify the amount that was sent and sign along with the buyer. Doubt this guy would ever go out of his way to do anything based on what I've deen from his interactions with others
I don’t ask the FedEx guy if what I ordered from Old Navy is inside the package he’s delivering…..because he’s just the delivery guy. Idk why that’s hard. U pick up, u deliver it. Ur not in charge of pulling, packing and billing.
THE DRIVER SHOULD HAVE A MANIFEST OF WHAT'S ON LOAD.

@@SaffordDeliveryGreat question… interestingly enough I work with the public every day and I find watching your videos very helpful in my daily stress management both personal and professional. I get stress relief (and learn) from seeing your extremely professional handling of situations that could definitely escalate quickly if you didn’t “politely enforce” Company Policies and Procedures. I can tell that Mike is a reasonable man but rules are rules and curb side pickups are NOT left up to the Customers, but they are accommodated as best as possible given the prevailing circumstances (taking into account if the driveway will be compromised by the weight of the load as an example, as well always following Company protocol)… with emphasis on safety and a calm manner towards the Customer, in my opinion I find Stafford Delivery and Transportation Services to be the best there is.
(Not to mention everyday brings a new adventure 😊).
Sorry for such a lengthly response but your question really got me thinking!!!

It seems to me like you'd be better off not unstrapping the load until you see what the customer has in mind for you to deliver to. I'd go check out the terrain before unstrapping the load to save myself time and effort in case the load is not deliverable and the customer refuses delivery. In this case it worked out for you but sometimes it doesn't. It would more often than not, save you time to go check out the situation before unloading the forklift and taking the load off the truck.

I worked in the Redi Mix business for 35 yes. People think that a Mixer has tracks and can go anywhere, and the drivers would tear up more shit trying to do what the customers wanted. Finally changed company policy to nothing behind curb line. hire a pump!! What a relief that was! Lol

Short trailer you're fine, let it rip lol. Btw hold that black button on the driver side of your moffett after you chain up, otherwise you're messing up the internals as far as the hydraulics go.
A customer, did you consider the trash pickup when you said where to place that delivery? And maybe if you don't get that material out of the way there won't be trash pickup?
I will be there in a second, my boss says that all the time, shows up 8 hours later or the next day

From his other videos I’ve seen, this probably was just the last load. He usually puts multiple orders on his truck and off loads them as he “makes his route.”

Good job. A walkway is a sidewalk for pedestrians. You crack it, you bought it. Drop it at the curb and on to the next curbside delivery. They never stop trying to make their problems yours.
Anyone whose worked in warehousing or transport will appreciate how you are straight up with your answers or questions. Ops people are always straight up with the situation. It’s what I love about the industry that I’ve worked in for 25 years. P.S. only just found your channel today and it’s great 👍

Yeah I think you're spot on with the judgement calls you make to whether or not you can drop off materials farther than what you're supposed to. It's easy for a customer to say no don't worry about driving over the asphalt driveway or small sidewalk because in the end you're the 1 that would be liable for the issue of damage because the customer came back and tried to say you damaged this or that when you clearly told them damage would happen if you did what you said you weren't going to. Keep up the great vids and great work at trying to facilitate the customers who don't understand the reasons why the rules are there for both parties involved.
I'd say having video of the person explaining and them waving liability should help... but let's be honest, lawyers can word-walk their way into nonsense pathsof logic. Convincing a judge that clearly the video is (legalese nonsense) so invalid.
He is courteous and businesslike and that's why his customers don't try to push him when he says no.

I love watching these videos. I'm currently a delivery manager for a 3rd party company and we have a contract with an appliance/hardware store that I won't name and it is absolutely hell. My drivers would've been fined for dropping it off there and not risking the claim. lol. You inspire me to get my own trucks. Coming 2022.

Smooth delivery but I don't understand why you would drop the delivery right in front of a garbage dumpster when garbage trucks have to come and empty them.

I'm owner operator, company gets paid a daily rate(minimum) anything after a certain number of deliveries pays extra per delivery.
Walk ways are not designed to be driven on 99% of the time
Whenever I had that type of situation I always had them sign before the delivery
