    I sub because I like your attitude. When I'm on a bass boat I am all focused on bassing. In my kayak I focus on fishing but I notice the plants, the bugs, the trees. It is another world. I enjoy the day more and I am at peace on the water.

    I have been an avid fisherman for nearly 50 years. I own 2 rods. One for open water and one for ice fishing.

    I suffer from depression and anxiety most days, I'm a mechanic for my profession. Just bought a kayak cause a buddy and I went out, used his extra and was hooked..been out 3 or 4 times now and when I'm out on the water my depression and anxiety levels are super low and I feel a calmness rush over me like no other...its truly amazing. On a mother note...thank you for sharing these tips because for me I want to learn more all the time and dont want to make a mistake for myself or with other kayakers. Thank you again and i hope to see more awesome videos in the future.

      I suffered from anxiety and depression for years and have found a lot of ways to overcome it, so, and I TRULY MEAN THIS, hit me up and we can just talk and hopefully I can help some. I had a good friend from basic commit suicide when he got out of the military and I vowed to help anyone I ever can. So please hit me up if you ever want to chat, and definitely before you make any life changing decisions. Be safe man and remember that there is always a light at the end.

    Couldn't aggree more with the paddling up and talking to others out on the water. I generally am not a very social person, so this was difficult for me, but when I finally decided to try it, I was introduced to my favorite small-craft fishing lure by an incredibly generous fellow fisherman. Most of us don't bite, but watch outu for the drunks xD

    Very sensible advice. Simple is great. It's the whole reason I started yak fishing. I've been fishing for 25 years from a plain rec kayak. Usually, I would take one rod, one flat Plano box of tackle, some soft plastics in my vest pocket, pliers, a Boga Grip and a knife. That's all you really need. I just bought a 12-foot sit-on-top fishing yak, but I have no plans to accessorize it. Maybe I'll add another tackle box and a spare rod, but that's about all.

    When I'm having a slow day. there's nothing more fun than rigging up a 1/32 or 1/16 Oz jig head with a small grub and just catching panfishx Just as fjn with an ultralight as catching larger fish. and it's a great way to not get skunked

      Buy anything safe that you can afford. Don't hang out on the shore holding out for something that costs more than your first car and weighs so much it requires a trailer. The sport was invented to be simple and cheap. You may like it that way.

Ended up loving it and just picked up a used FS12T. also made one for my boy, then wife had to have one. Bottom line: I fish nearly everyday now, about 100 times more than I was, and the boat has only been in the water once. Whole family can go out and do their own thing and enjoy the day. Wife signed us up for a 7 mile trip on the local river. Man wish I’d have done this sooner!

    Chris, I enjoy your videos and down to earth demeanor. I started yac fishn' last year in a sit inside Futurebeach yac. This spring bought a Bonafide Rs117 then due to some warranty issues traded up to a Bonafide SS127. added TM . I have fished 5-6 days a week and use only frogs. The main thing is the decompression of just being on the water. I have followed your tips. I have now over this past summer met and fished with a few others as well as introduced others to the sport as well . On "Fishing Stage" an online form they have named me Frogman and this is now the name of my Yack. I support NAMI which is a mental health organization and instruct there when asked. I'm retired and enjoy the water. If you have any stickers you could send me that support your dite I would be happy to apply them to my yac. If they require a payment to receive please let me know and I will be happy to make those arrangements. I love "Ripping Lips". Thanks for your hard work.

    I bought 2 kayaks 3 weeks ago for a family and friend kayaking day. I didn't know a lot about kayaking been a few times to the east coast to hangout with a cousin. He had several high end ocean kayaks. I live in Indiana only fresh water. I bought a pelican catch 120 and a sit in kayak. I figured I would like the sit in best. I still haven't rode in that kayak. The second time I got it out I thought I wanted to try to fish out of it. 1st time out had a great time only caught 1 small bluegill but it was so relaxing. I was hooked. I didn't realize how kayak fishing was a thing. Been out probably 3 times a week since the 1st week. Unfortunately I haven't caught any more fish. I must suck at fishing but I don't care. It's my get away!
    I want to add power to the catch 120?

    Bro I love kayak fishing and I really appreciate that you did a video trying to promote the sport... but your video does not seem to offer a useful amount of valuable information to new kayak anglers. I would also recommend that you only carry two rods. If you take a small amount of gear you can rig up two separate rods with enough variety to keep you fishing effectively for several hours. Your feet could easily get caught up in all that gear you were storing next to the drive system on your kayak, making peddling as well as actually landing a fish into that same are very difficult.
    I would also recommend editing out the part of your video that encourages kayak anglers (especially since this video is clearly targeting beginners) to anchor their kayaks with a steak in the middle of the boat. Always anchor of the back (stern, aft or transom) of the kayak with the anchor up river and the bow (front) of the kayak pointed down current.
    Otherwise it's really appreciated that you are helping bring awareness to the sport of kayak fishing.

    All these fishing kayak tip videos are such trash. How about talking about ACTUALLY FISHING from your kayak??? Where to put your rod when tying on leaders/lures. How to cast properly. Best storage options. How to stop from turning. COME ON

    • @Outwestwithchris1
      @Outwestwithchris1  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You sound upset man. That's not good. I'll try to answer a few of your questions here but first, your comment is good, it gives me some ideas. Ok.
      1 - where to put your rod when tying on. I typically put it in my lap with enough line stripped out to work with.
      2 - casting is the same for the most part, some underhand techniques are difficult unless you are standing in your yak. Also, watch out on your back cast if you store rods behind you as you might hit them. It happens, even after years of fishing from a kayak.
      3 - Storage options (not sure if you are talking tackle management or actually storing the boat so...) 3a - tackle storage. I use a milk crate and put in various Lure boxes depending on the species I Target. I strap the milk crate into the rear well so it stays put.
      3b - when storing your kayak it's best to store it inside out of direct sunlight and the elements. Garages are great. If you don't have one a tarp works too. I store mine flat on the ground, some people recommend storing on the side.
      4 - the turning thing will happen, a lot of times a rudder will help reduce that. Time on the water helps too.
      I will try to talk about some of these topics in upcoming videos but it'll probably be a few months before a video posts. Hope you can get out there and have a good time in the meantime.

    I'm in north Fla, I'm gonna enjoy all the pockets and holes that were too deep to wade-fish in but were too thick for a regular boat...

    I started fishing from a kayak about 12 years ago in a regular kayak, I just love being on the water. I bought a fishing kayak a couple years later. I live where there are a few ponds near by, there is not many big fish around. I will be moving south soon where I am hoping to get into bigger fish. Looking to find tips to make my trips on the water that more enjoyable, even if I do not catch a fish. That is the point enjoyment.

      Thanks for watching, it's such an enjoyable activity for me. I'd say try to link up with some folks when you move South, that always makes things fun. Cheers and tight lines.

      @@Outwestwithchris1 I hope to be living in Inman, SC sometime in late summer. I have been watching videos about fishing and kayaks in the past month to get ideas on doing things; hooks, rigs, bait, and how to rig my kayak. The one thing I have not seen is how do you bring a fish back if you want to eat it. Most times I like catch and release.

    • @Outwestwithchris1
      @Outwestwithchris1  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are some brands and styles I would stay away from but if you are looking to get into the sport on a tight budget look at Craigslist or see if any kayak shops in your area have any trade-ins. Kayaks do retain their value fairly well but you can often find a good deal on them, especially in the off season, on craigslist and other for sale sites!

    • @beauhudson2872

      What brands and styles would you say stay away from?

    • @Outwestwithchris1
      @Outwestwithchris1  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Anything you can get at Walmart. I'd also suggest a sit on top unless you are an experienced kayaker who has spent a lot of time in sit in kayaks and that is what you prefer.

    Question, do you need to register a kayak like a regular boat if you use it on a lake?

    • @Outwestwithchris1
      @Outwestwithchris1  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most states only require registration of kayaks if you put a motor on it. Hope that helps!

    • @TWC6724
      @TWC6724 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Outwestwithchris1 Does that include a trolling motor? Or gas motor?

    • @Outwestwithchris1

      It varies from state to state I think but does include electric motors in many.
