- Matthew Perry, a comedy light, extinguished way too soon. Matthew was everyone’s forever ‘friend’, but in his passing, we also see how beloved he was as a human being.
His big break came when he was cast in “Friends” - originally titled “Friends Like Us” - a sitcom about six single New Yorkers navigating adulthood that premiered on NBC in 1994. Perry stood out among a stellar ensemble cast as Chandler Bing.
But there was a darker side to the life of one of the most popular comedians on television.

This was a very respectful tribute to Matthew Perry’s life. Well done. I finally found a way to rewatch friends without the deep nostalgia, by thinking his legacy will live on. America born but living in Taiwan.. Here many people love him and the show b/c it helped them learn English. Helping people learn a language to communicate and connect with other parts of the world means more than most realize. Could we BE any luckier to have lived in Mathew Perry's lifetime??? Most of my personality and my sense of humor, i noticed, came from his character on the show.. so I consider myself lucky
Everytime I need a laugh I watch Friends. Now that Matthew Perry has passed away it makes me sad before I watch. It just hits different.....
I taught English as a Second Language in Seoul, Korea, from 2002-2004. One of my students only wanted to watch Friends and disvuss it as we watched. His favorite character? Chandker Bing, of course.

Matty should have won an Emmy for "The Ron Clark Story." He was amazing! Also, "The Odd Couple." He was great in that!!! Matty was a comedic genius!!! 👍👍👍👏👏👏
Just watching this making me cry a lot. He was such an incredible actor. I wish I had met him… 😭 watching his scenes on friends it’ll make me laugh and cry so much. I bought many Friends items, and my first was his memoir. I finished it few weeks ago. Rest in peace sweetheart. In a better place too, giving the angels a good laugh to.

As an addict, I can totally relate to just "getting high" and sitting on my couch and watching TV. It's not partying, it's just to feel "normal." ONLY an addict can relate to THAT!!! 😢😢😢

Friends taught a whole generation that sleeping around and changing your partner every week was natural, harmless fun.
Yeah, that was a very cringy element of the show for me too. However, it really was a typical example of the lifestyle of that age group at that time. I wish that there had a been a voice of morality somewhere in the show though, even if it was just a minor influence.

You can't help someone if they're not ready to be helped so they were just "there" for when he was ready. I think they just kept loving him but not pressurising him...giving him space whilst still being there. Admittedly that comment sounded rather cold, but I don't think it was that black and white.
