    This looks like a good contender for the Apollo City that I was considering. I like the selectable single/double motor mode and significant lighting enhancements. Regen braking looks equivalent to the Apollo. The IPX rating is also great.

    I bought a punk rider pro just two weeks ago and immediately started having issues. Left turn signal would go on randomly without me pushing the button, but when I pushed the button it wouldn’t turn on. Also, it would turn on when using the e brake. So I took out the handle bar to check the cabling and found the issue. The way the cables go into the stem is not very efficient, and when I screwed in the hex screws it pinched the cables and severed them. Upon removing the handle bar, the cables are severely severed and now the scooter won’t power on at all. Currently working on getting a warranty replacement.

      Yah it’s a pretty massive block of wires you have to push into the stem. That’s really unfortunate about the severed wires. How has customer service been so far?

    Hey there! back in 2020 I got an already used Mi m365 that has to be kicked to get up the hills here where I live. I realized with Christmas coming I should replace it. First time I bought a scooter I really didnt shop around but this time has been close to overwhelming! You helped me sooo much. Many thanks to you reviewers who go out there and sort out the good from the bad apples. A few days ago I was looking at the Vmax VX4, Teverun Blade Mini, an IO Hawk model... due to lack of water protection of the Blade Mini its out ( *correction* the Teverun Rep said IPX5.) The VX4 was close but not as convincing as the Punk Rider Pro(1400Euro/Germany) which I am now vying with the IO Hawk Phoenix(removable battery 1400 Euro/Germany).... feels like it's gonna be a close call! I loved my lil m365 but it's time for an UPGRADE! One of these two company's is gonna take my money!

  • @Patriot36
    @Patriot36 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    Nice introduction review, Tom! From what I've seen, it looks like the fit and finish is above average. It falls into the price and weight territory of the VMAX VX4, this of course having dual motors and 32mph top speed rather than 25mph. I know motor designs are a compromise but I think VMAX went for torque and missed the mark with the top speed on the VX4. Even if the VX4 hit 28-30mph, I'd probably have one. It's great to see the Punk Rider actually achieve the 32mph mark! Something to really consider if it passes your testing measures. I've watched other reviews of this model but frankly, I didn't find many of them very objective. Freshly Charged did a respectable job however. I suspect that with the 936Wh battery, it will likely reach 35mi range at 20mph on mostly flat ground, fingers crossed. You're setting the new standard for scooter reviews, Tom.

    • @tomsgadgetgarage
      @tomsgadgetgarage  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks man! I was surprised it hit 32mph as quick as it did. Sometimes scooters struggle to hit the stated max speed or can only do it on a fully charged battery. This one here will hit 32 even with 25% battery remaining.
      I’ll post the range test tomorrow and one of the hill climb tests likely a couple days later. It’s not without its faults, but so far it’s been a blast to ride.

    • @Patriot36
      @Patriot36 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tomsgadgetgarage That's impressive. I don't think any of my scooters will hit top speed on 25% battery. Actually, maybe the GX3 does because it's electronically limited to 38.5mph. I know it does at 50% so I'll have to try it at 25%. In any case, I'll be eager to see the range test as well as its imperfections. I'm looking for a medium range scooter like this for my brother. I don't know if it will be the Punk Rider or a Kukurin G2 Master, or a VX4 but the low speed limit might be a deal breaker on the VMAX. I heard that Voro will be introducing a new version of the Emove Cruiser too. I have no idea if it's a full redesign or an evolution but it's probably due for a full makeover. If it's good, I might get that, then pass the Cruiser S to my bro. It's such a nice riding scooter though, might be hard let go. Thanks for all the time and effort you put into these reviews!

    • @tomsgadgetgarage
      @tomsgadgetgarage  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey! So I don’t know the specific brand of cells, but I know they use high density 21700 cells. As for the handlebar, it’s a pretty standard bike bar so I’m sure you can swap it out. Just know that they route a lot of the wiring though the bar and into the stem.

    Im between the punk rider pro, mantis v2, inokin oxo, and apollo go for the price. Which would be your choice for city riding? mantis v2 is very much on sale right now

    • @tomsgadgetgarage
      @tomsgadgetgarage  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey! So I can’t speak to the Mantis V2 or the OXO, but both the Punk Rider Pro and the GO are zippy scooters that get up to speed quickly. The main advantage of the GO is its lighter weight and powerful front lights, but it gets less range and has a lower top speed than the Punk Rider Pro. Really depends on how important weight and portability are for you relative to speed and range.
      The Mantis V2 looks like it gives you more power and speed but less water resistance.

    Bit of a random question but have you used the "Reset to Defualt" button in the tuning section of the app?
    My profile speeds dont matcch yours.
    Profile 1 (Eco) is 9mph and Profile 2 (Normal) is 15mph on mine instead of Eco (13 mph) Normal (20 mph) and the reset button is the only thing I can think of that might have changed them (According to Punk there is only 1 version of the firmware so no different region settings).

    Nice review Tom. Is Punk affiliated with Apollo? I realize all escooter companies borrow ideas from one another and such but Punk are really pushing their luck.

    • @tomsgadgetgarage
      @tomsgadgetgarage  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks! There’s no affiliation between the two to my knowledge. I’ve also spent an embarrassing amount of time looking at the Apollo Pro and Punk Rider Pro from a design perspective. There are similarities between the two, for example the accent lights and regenerative brake throttle as well as the style of the rear kick plate. The main body of the scooters are shaped differently, as are the neck, head unit, and suspension.
      Both have a futuristic design compared to nearly all other scooters on the market. I’d say 90% of scooters on the market fall into the category of “seen one, seen them all” from a design perspective.
      I believe both cater to very different audiences. The Apollo Pro comes with significantly more power and speed as well as premium features and a sleek design, whereas the Punk Rider Pro delivers aesthetics and solid specs (for the price, on paper) at a more accessible price point.
      I’m hoping to get both side by side in the near future, even though from a performance perspective these two are in completely different leagues.

    • @tomsgadgetgarage
      @tomsgadgetgarage  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The two definitely have some similarities, but they aren't even remotely in the same class. The Apollo Pro is geared toward those wanting a more premium product with all the luxuries, performance, and price to match. On the other hand, the Punk Rider Pro is for those looking to get a higher-performance scooter than your typical commuter scooter for a decent price. I don't think buyers of the Apollo Pro are realistically considering the Punk Rider as an alternative, but maybe Apollo GO buyers are.
      For the price tag though, the Punk Rider Pro is a solid deal for dual motor performance, speed, and night time visibility.
