Solve the shade containers. Do you plant the ferns in your garden in the fall? They should be perennials in your zone.

No I leave them in the pots, and this spring I will carefully remove them, refresh the soil, and add them back with new annuals...Although a couple of the ferns are so big now, they've taken over the entire pot! lol
