This is a great analysis imo. I think I can add another variable that relates to Neil's body type and sighting (the same thing for Judd Trump too). He is left handed, but very right eye dominant. This means the cue is very tucked into a channel of the body... more contained though the follow through. It also means that with the cue inside the chin, he has much less inclination to lift the chin slightly on the back stroke and especially the forward stroke, to avoid any potential jarring of the cue with the head contact. More still with the power shot from that. The second part I think is that he's basically the ideal size to weight ratio... He's not too big or tall to seem uncomfortable in his stance, but the length of his forearm/fulcrum point is very conducive to easy power. Just my observations to add there 😊

I think the consistency of his action is what I appreciate the most. It is always the same setup and execution. That and the way he likes to strike the ball confidently on every shot - it's looks great when he's in the zone. None of those dinky shots across the table which can allow table roll/poor delivery to occur

Great video, the cloth also makes a huge difference ,we have the cloth they use on the TV in our club and you bearly have to hit the ball to get massive reaction, Robertson times the ball so well it is effortless ,I would say Murphy times the ball better than any pro ,some shots he bearly hits the ball but because he times it so well he can screw full length of the table with ease

something that you might consider when comparing your technique with Robertsons technique is the differences in playing / table conditions. The cloth, the ambient temperature and humidity on the surface of the table cloth etc. Then there is the matter of the relative weight and flexibility of the cue and the relative hardness of the cue tip.
IMHO it is unreasonable to expect or to think you can duplicate the same or similar amount of draw (you call it screw) that Robertson gets when you take into consideration the factors I just pointed out.
No doubt Robertson, like all talented sportsmen has refined his technique. His stance over a given shot I believe has more to do with his height, the length of his arms and fingers and the relative efficiency of his stroke. Timing - as they say - is everything. Talent is something else altogether.
You are a talented snooker player in your own right and you have a very highly and well developed game yourself. I think you have more to lose than you could gain from trying to emulate the technique of someone so physically different from you.
Much of technique is a function of body type/size, reflexes and strength. That is something to think about before you beat yourself up over not being able to consistently duplicate Robertsons abilities for imparting excessive draw (screw).
I admire Ronnies technique much more than Robertsons. Ronnie has such masterful control of his cue ball that he rarely if ever finds himself in a situation where he needs to draw or screw the cue ball the length of the table. I don't doubt Ronnie can do it - but his technique is such that he rarely if ever finds himself in that predicament. No?

There is one thing that among the players with cue power that I saw a lot player haven't noticed it is there press the cue with the Jaws of their palm (between your index fingers & thumb). At the same time you can't press too hard, it will makes you twitch on your shot. I've change to this type of cue action since last year. And it did helps on my cue ball control & cue power. I don't know you will saw my comment or believing it. But it's just an opinion from me.

A lot of people don't realize you can hit way closer to the edge of the ball than what they think possible, to generate spin. A quick test I do is try to miscue by hitting as close to the edge as possible and moving that tip contact point closer and closer to the centre until I find where the extreme limit of miscuing is.

Another great video, I would have to say that 'cue power' isn't about speed or power, it's about timing.
Timing is the amount of acceleration reached when striking the cue ball. If you are still accelerating when hitting the cue ball, then the time of contact between the ball and tip is longer, as the cue is catching up with he ball. This gives more spin.
I was really confused while playing for my local team, when most of the lads playing could screw the ball no matter how low they struck the ball, after some research I found that info about timing and acceleration. All sports require this when spin can be applied.
As I said I love watching your videos, pal and not trying to criticise sorry if it seams like this.
Idea for future video, similarities between snooker and other sports like golf.
Billy newton from Coalville leicestershire ;) x

I"d be interested in you commenting about the shoes one should wear. I've learned from motor racing that soles which are thin, and create a stable platform without any compression related motion allow for pedal control, and balance. I would assume the same is true of keeping the platform stable while making the shot. I also noted your compressible soles, and wondered if that adversely affects your game on longer potted attempts?

Actually, I found that the main thing that allows deep screw without a miscue is the firmness of the bridge hand. Allowing even a slight downward motion of the bridge during ball contact allows the tip to dip lower on the ball, causing a possible miscue. Second is proper tip shaping to maximize contact area low on the ball. I also suspect the shaft flex to be an important factor. But I don't have access to enough shafts of different flex to investigate this.

I could only generate a decent amount of spin if I had a solid stance (very still), a good acceleration and follow-through on delivery, and keep the cue movement as parallel as possible to the table from beginning to end. Many times during follow through the tip would lift as I was trying to inject more power (=/= acceleration) into it - that is how difficult it is to get consistent with these kinds of shots.
