I wish airships still were a thing. Looks so cool to travel on one.

One look at the Hindenburg kind of spoiled that idea for me. They are hopelessly impractical, because they are too slow, and far more difficult to land than an airplane.

Airships are still a thing and will probably be a common thing in the future. They're being developed to combat the carbon emissions that come from standard aircraft. There's already a couple in use by Lockheed Martin and Hybrid Air Vehicles. Check out the Airlander 10.

@@colinjames4230 Im going to look up Airlander 10 now. I think airships are really cool and I hope you are right. They seem to make sense to me without me being able to explain why. Sky buses? Going to work in one sounds nice.

My grandfather had worked for AT&T throughout the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. in Manhattan, NY.
He routinely had to climb up to the very top of the Empire State Building’s spire to service the communication relays and this had to be done from the outside of it, wearing a harness and climbing gear.

Interesting fact, they used blimps/airships to travel in the late 1800s - early 1900s everywhere. Old homes were equiped with energy conductor points on there houses to charge these ships and to also keep them docked using Aether energy. They removed this from our history after WW2 I wonder why? The government won’t say the full use and story of why that point was put on the top Empire State Building though will they haha

I have seen dozens of pictures of dirigeables / Airships loading and unloading people at the tops of those buildings. I thought the first two or three were fake but I kept finding more. Some of them may have been photoshopped but there's way too many out there to have not happened.

  • @philpreeo5515

That’s a flawed experiment due to hydrogen being used in airships at the time, no weight on the “balloon” itself nor to scale with the model of the city itself.

  • @tkskagen

From what I understand (whether true or not), the Spire atop the Empire State Building works as a Lightning Rod, and was also a Communications Antenna.
Plus, it was al about height as well...

Nothing new or revelatory here. In the race for tallest building, the Empire State had been caught off guard when the Chrysler Building’s spire was raised through its dazzling dome. The Empire State’s tower was primarily a quick, cost effective way to push it well into the lead as tallest building. The docking port was a trendy excuse, probably never seriously meant for real use.

Why not use two or three buildings so it is like a guyed mast and ability to adjust. Or in the midway on one of two cables. If you can build a modern bridge. A smaller permanent rigid transport ship like a modern cruise ship uses at smaller or busier ports. Best of all they can run on sustainable energy for when international travel by jet will be for the very rich and powerful.
