I freaking LOVE this guy lol! "Manly" coffee, that was classic 😂I was watching "Little House on the Prairie" and saw Carolina making coffee for Charles and Almanzo, thinking to myself "how in the hell did they make coffee, back in the day, in those tin pots just by sitting them on the stove? How in the hell did they get by without a Starbucks or a Dunkin' taking all the guesswork out of our morning joe? Those were some damn hardy a$s people back then and they needed their coffee strong so's they could go out and plow their fields, build their own houses, hunt their own breakfast, lunch and dinner, and survive in a wilderness that you and I would run screaming from as soon as we found out they have no Wi-Fi and, more importantly, no air conditioning lmao. I know I'd be on the first train out of Sleepy Eye by mid-day 🤣🤣. Anyways, I came across this guy's channel and thought I could find out the answers to my question and I did. Thank you for showing me how they did this very simple task but very foreign to all of us. I was born in 1979, so I grew up without a lot of the technology that most the kids today take for granted, but I wasn't born so far back as having to boil my coffee in a percolator out of necessity on a stove that I had to put wood in to heat it up. My great grandmother, however, always had one of these sitting on her stove but I never saw her using it. Stout woman, she was, and I guess it came from growing up in difficult times in unimaginable circumstances that we couldn't even fathom today.

I just found an old percolator in my mom’s shed. Thanks for this. It’s missing the top knob so I’ll have to find a replacement but can’t wait to use it!!

Thanks man. I just bought an old beat up percolator from the thrift shop for a whopping 4 dollars and screwed up the first batch so damn bad that I sought out a learning video. Buddy, I'm sitting here right now drinking a cup of the way you make your coffee and it has got to be the best joe I've ever had. I've got way more coffee than I'll need but I guess I can just turn the stove back on and heat the leftovers up whenever I'm ready. Do you heat up your leftovers like that or use the microwave?

Thanks brother. I just heat up extra in the microwave

I was hoping you would say where the water level should be inside the pot...like below the spout??

If you just pour six measured cups into your percolator you’ll be at the right level.

Hi Chris, thanks for the tutorial! I would like to learn how to do this. I like old-fashioned things and like the idea of an old-fashioned coffee pot sitting on the stove. I found one in the camping section of Walmart and would like to get it but have some questions first. My first question is: how much coffee would I use if I just wanted to make a couple cups of coffee? My second question is: how much water? Would I just fill the mug I'm using a couple of times (and add a little extra to account for evaportation)? My third (and last) question is: if I did decide to take the pot camping, how would I turn the heat down once the coffee starts to percolate if I'm using it over a campfire? Just raise it higher above the heat somehow? Thanks!

I only ever make the 6 cup pot so I don’t know about only making one cup. As far as turning the heat down then yes, move it off to the side so it isn’t directly above the flames or just lift the whole grill grate higher. I always use 6 cups of water and then fill the coffee holder as I did in the video. Happy trails.

@@TheCloverStreetPodcast Okay, thanks! I said couple of cups. I guess I'll fill it with the amount of coffee you said and then pour it out and divide by three and then add two cups of water.

Thank you for making this. My daughter in law just got me one and I haven't seen one since my parents used theirs in the 80s. Now I know how to use it and also can't wait to use it when we go camping in a few weeks.
