  • This video is made up of several different outings. I've been going through my archives looking for some great footage to share with you that I haven't yet shared. There are some gorgeous pipe extractions of course and other items which have been lost or discarded in the mud over the years. During the second half of the video I meet up with Mud Buddy @Si-finds Thames Mudlark and some other muddy friends, Matt and Mike. Mike tells me about an incredible 17th century gold mourning ring that he found on the Thames recently and I explore the story behind it. It's also a good opportunity to show you some of the rings I have found over the years.
Mike Walker's instagram account is : mike_mudlark_cuffs. Follow him to see his amazing Thames finds.
Matt's instagram account is : mungomatt2019 - and again, follow him for some great Thames finds and adventures
And of course, follow Simon Bourne on @Si-finds Thames Mudlark
You need a permit to mudlark on the River Thames and all the details can be found on
    www.pla.co.uk
Thank you for watching. If you wish to make a donation towards the cost of making these videos then you can do so by paypal to nicola.white@tidelineart.com

    See you soon.

Nicola I was thinking to myself, "she's going to pick up that plastic, I know she is..." and you did not disappoint as usual. 1962 was a great year, according to my Mom, my siblings didn't think so, another mouth to feed in the house. @@constancemiller3753 I always enjoy watching them, whether in the air or on the ground. Because of the pretty much ideal environment, they have lots of bugs and other goose forage in the summer, and after harvest, there's lots of field corn kernels and soybeans in the bare fields. It would not surprise me if they went as far as 50 miles outside Des Moines in all directions.

Finding and researching lost history and sharing with the world, being creative and charming and caring and at the same time cleaning up the environment! Up to now, I've been impressed with your pipe finds, but those rings trump the pipes! The fake diamond is beautiful. The one with five stones looks like the style of rings in our family. Apparently a sea captain in the family came back with a pouch of rubies. Lots of them turned out to be garnets. They still made beautiful rings. Love the stories ❤️

You are so lucky living where humans have been manufacturing artifacts for a couple thousand years. I live on the West Coast of the US. YOU, find a Roman coin, or a 15th century artifact and say: (me trying, but failing miserably to imitate a British accent) “Oh that’s quite nice isn’t it?” And go on about your day. ME, I find a 1955 Penny with my metal detector and scream: “Woo Hoo!” Do a 10 minute victory dance and show everyone I can see, whether or not they care; (I get some pretty strange looks and the odd occasion where the police are called).

Nicky L - Yes, you are right, there ARE some interesting sites I can search, my best find ever is a Spanish 4 Reale piece (silver coin) from an old trading post dated 1732. I theorize it was dropped in the late 18th century (out in the desert). I have also found a Native American stone bowl, which a university investigated and said it could be anywhere from 800 to 2,000 years old, so there IS stuff to find. But compared to this river, they are few and far between. Nicole walks 100 yards and finds artifacts from 50 to 2,000 years old, I AM JEALOUS!!!!!

A friend and I enjoy a pipe of good tobacco together every time we meet up as a little kind of ritual we've been doing for some years now, ever since we spent 2 full seasons together in total solitude on a mountain tending to a large property. We both developed a fascination for the old clay pipes as well and found on Etsy there are alot of folks who carry on the tradition of making them in that very style. Take a peek, they're also very cheap even foe the long or detailed ones. And you're also supporting a small business and keeping a tradition alive.

@@nicolawhitemudlark Knew you'd pick the plastic can holder up when you saw it, I picked up two of the nasty things the other day when I was mudlarking, one had become ensnared on a bit of rusty iron cable and the other was making its way along the waters edge with the out going tide (I nearly fell in trying to grab it but managed to retrieve it 🙂). It's the volume of plastic bottles and plastic tops, plastic lighters and cable ties that I pick up that astound me x.

Not watched the video yet but just have to say - the lovely shot of the (Canada?) Geese at the start; they so look like mini dinosaurs walking along, don't they? :) Kind of amazing it took us so long to work out that they are the descendants of dinos really!

Yeah Nic, I was yelling, “pick up the plastic can holder”! . Cute intro . I was just wondering - Are most mudlarkers single? My husband thinks I pack too much home from the beach . I’d say he’s just lucky I don’t live by the River Thames- then he might have something to complain about.

Thanks for picking up the plastic soda can holders, as many aquatic, land, and air animals get stuck in these. I always cut them up before putting them in the bin.

Lovely video! The critter on the button is the heraldic dipiction of a sealion, in rather literal terms.
