I will make an update video this weekend going over any questions that weren't answered in the original video. If you have a question or something you want me to check let me know. If you ask about something that was obviously covered in the original video, I will mock you 🤣.
27:20 You may have already tried this but would turning on the "Trajectory" option enable dynamic lines? My guess is that it would be reading the steering angle sensor from the CAN. Given the competance of the unit perhaps the manufacturer can provide a software update. Also I both love and hate the casted "Fan" on the back.
Fantastic video! Two questions: Does the stereo support the original bluetooth microphone, I guess no? And can you change the language settings to German? best regards
@@stefanhaupt4947 There is no original bluetooth microphone. It's wired and in the roof panel as mentioned in the video. I didn't check for languages but I would guess that it does.
@@evilution_ltd yes, i meant the wired microphone that is used for Bluetooth phone connections. Could you use this, or did you need to install an aftermarket mike?
I got the 8gb ram + 256gb version and also 360 camera setup. Sound in terms of loudness and bass has increased significantly so it is miles better than the tomtom system. Overall this is an amazing bit of kit, gives you so much freedom to mod it the way you want. Few things to be aware of: 1. No wired CarPlay, only wireless 2. Screen and touch digitiser are not bonded therefore colour reproduction is worse than on tomtom albeit the screen has higher pixel density 3. The surround trim has to be trimmed in order to fit the new head unit, otherwise it won’t sit flush. 4. If you turn the ignition key all the way to off, the head unit goes to sleep. If you want it to be powered then the key needs to be turned to accessory mode 5. The original usb A port between both seats is no longer going to work unless it is re-wired into the new system. Unfortunately the supplied usb A cables are not long enough to reach back there. If you want CarPlay, this is hands down the best head unit so far for smart 453. Build quality is on par with the original. Certainly when it is fitted, you can hardly say it is an aftermarket head unit.
Thank you Kane that's good to know, I've spent many years messing with car stereos but didn't know how the jbl setup ran as most other aftermarket stereos for these just say won't work with jbl and I didn't know if it used a digital, optical or preamp signal.
I’ve fitted a Tesla style rotating 13in screen in mine and regarding the reverse camera I wired the video into the connector at both ends and used the switched 12v from the reverse lamps 😊
hello Kane, I just wanted to know if it is possible to have a compatible link with my Smart 453 Brabus with tomtom and JBL. honestly I am looking for a Chinese Android unit for the size of the screen and also fluid, do you have a solution for me 🙏 or links that I could order there and compatible with my Smart? thanks in advance 🙏
I have one original and one upgraded speaker in my smart 453 - after I upgraded to this unit, the sound in terms of loudness and bass has increased dramatically. I did go for the top model which apparently has a better amp in the unit.
Do you know if this can be configured to work with jbl equipped cars? Does it allow access to any of the original setup menus or are they only relevent to the tomtom.
Amplifiers want a "pre-out" which is an unamplified signal. Stereo speaker outputs are amplified so the amplifier's gain stage will clip the audio really badly and it'll sound like crap. Many stereos also have the optional connections for preamplified outputs, they are usually RCA connections designed to connect straight to the amp. Looking at the pin out, it does have RCA front left and RCA front right on A4 and A6 so with a bit of messing around with wires, you should be able to get it to work.
I sure it does wireless AA too. I have an Android phone somewhere but I don't know where or if it's new enough to support AA. Since the OEM TomTom stereo can be coded to do wired AA anyway, I don't think many Android owners will bother upgrading. I don't think Android owners could afford this stereo. If they could, they'd buy an iPhone 😉😂
@@evilution_ltd Yea, I think the level of handiness is somewhat proportional to how much mischief you want to get up to. I've been told that they are great for physical penetration testing (stop sniggering at the back) because they package everything you would carry in to a single small unit.

Does it automatically connect to Carplay once you have set it up the first time?

Can you point out where did you find that rotating screen? Thanks!
My factory TomTom unit has DAB, this one doesn’t look like it does, presumably that’s taken care of by the CarPlay?
You don’t need DAB with this head unit because you can stream radio over 4g
Great video…any issue the steering wheel controls?
Controls work fine.
Does the usb socket charge the phone? And is if possible to connect phones by usb?

Have a look down the comments for Gavin Jacques as he asked the same. I left a bit of info on that reply.
What about audio quality ?
Sounds as good as you need for a car stereo. Sound quality has more to do with the speakers.

Yeah, I backed the original on Kickstarter. It's alright but not as handy as I thought it would be.
