    A local gas station had this game back in '86. It really did influence and pioneer a lot of fighting games that followed. The first Street Fighter game was an upgrade in many ways of this. Of course the really good fighting games we still play this day came in the early 90s.

    I used to love this game, and probably every other arcade game as well, and thought I was pretty good at it. Now I realize how lousy I was. Watching this video is the sweetest revenge. If you haven't played it, it's all about timing. Those flower pots are deadly

    The bull mini game is a nice reference to Mas Oyama who fought a bull to promote his Kyokushin Karate in it's early days

    They used to have this machine in the arcade in my home town in the early 80s. Fisrt time I went to an arcade, I must have been like 6 years old. It left a lasting impression ;o)

    This is the perfect fighting game, if you want to improve your skills. You can’t button mash combos, hoping to land at least one hit. Instead, you have to wait for the right moment to strike.

    Every place that had this machine always had the US VS version, it seemed a little tougher and the voices were a bit different, it had different fighting locations too, also the machine in the movie 'Bloodsport' is the VS version as well. (2player version)

      @johnnythepr1ck i dont have an arcade cabinet, but a miSTer (which i 100% reccomend). Karate Champ is being released this friday (fpga recreation, playable in CRT tvs). I’m 51 too. So we had the best age for arcade games, right?! 👍👍

    I wish developers would make modern versions of 80's arcade games. Karate Champ for PS5 with the same control schemes but 2025 graphics and gameplay.

      Street Fighter’s main inspiration in terms of a video game mainly takes from Kung Fu Master/Spartan X. The director of Kung Fu Master wanted to take the concept of boss fights in that game and applied it to Street Fighter 1 and add manga/anime elements behind it to really make it stand out from other fighters at the time.

    You can see that this game probably inspired the Street Fighter games, especially the way they do some of their moves (almost identical) and their fighting stances, lol. Cool. 😊

    2 moves can take u through the entire game easily...first move: flip over opponent and do spinning reverse roundhouse kick and second move: block then full upper punch

      This game came out just before I hit my growth spurt when I was 14.
      I remember being tall enough to reach the controls and looking up at this college kid who was maybe 6'. lol
      I got a front kick on him and everyone laughed and then he tore me up. First game ever and I was hooked :)
