Where Gene twists his thumb...this episode is a legend....bless you for uploading....
Funny😂😂😂
The fact that Siskel thought he could get Roger Ebert to change his mind on “Cop and a Half” only for Ebert to absolutely refuse and stick to his original opinion of what almost everyone else thinks of as a crap movie as still being a good movie, also makes it legendary.
I never thought I'd see this episode again. Of course what made it memorable for me was when Siskel changed his mind right in front of us.
This episode is notable for two things:
1. Gene gave a moderate thumbs up to Broken Arrow but then changed it to thumbs down after hearing Roger's criticisms, though Gene tried to coaxed Roger into doing the same with Cop And A Half. (''Look in the camera and say, I was wrong about Cop And A Half it wasn't a very good movie, Burt Reynolds.'')
2. He then admitted he walked out on Black Sheep (I think 20 minutes before the film was finished) because he could no longer tolerate Chris Farley, he also walked out on The Million Dollar Duck, Maniac and Otley.
These guys really started to jell at this point, you can tell they liked each other a lot
@@phoenixtypewriter2136 Yup.
I remember watching this episode and right after the Broken Arrow segment I just had to call my friend Eric (who was also a huge S&E fan) to see if he saw what I saw. He did. Probably the best moment in Siskel & Ebert history. You can actually see, in Gene's eyes, the very second he decides to admit that Roger was right. He almost stopped himself. I still can't believe, though, that Gene thought Roger would change his opinion on Cop & 1/2. Even, I knew that Roger had too much integrity to do that.
it goes to show sometime a verdict can be appeal, and Gene is the one that appeal his own
Roger should've at least mentioned to Gene about Cop and a Half that he did remove it from his Video Companion that year.
Gene did walk out on a few other films during his TV critics' history, but they weren't films he was reviewing as part of their main slate on a given show. He walked out on 1980's slasher film MANIAC and said he did so in the show's Dogs of the Week section. And he mentioned a few other films he'd left theatres for, all of them fellow Dogs of the Week.
it's fun to see them fight, like Cop and a Half, but it's almost more enjoyable to see them when they both agree on something that is awful.
Siskel was way too harsh on Chris Farley
I was lucky enough to be included in one of those studio test screenings for Beautiful Girls. Back then, my friend Eric & I were privy to a few Miramax test screenings. I actually sat directly in front of Harvey Weinstein during The Pallbearer. Anyway, Beautiful Girls was a great film written by Scott Rosenberg (one of the five best screenwriters) and directed by the late Ted Demme (Blow). The test audience loved it and when the film was released, about six months later, they only cut two or three scenes out. Sadly, though, the film bombed at the box office. I dunno. Perhaps, it wasn't marketed correctly. I really enjoyed it. The Tim Hutton & Natalie Portman's scenes are wonderfully written. The performances are great, as is the soundtrack. Watch it if you missed it.
As for Broken Arrow, I liked that, too. No great shakes, but a decent John Woo action thriller and very faithful to Graham Yost's script. Graham also wrote Speed, Hard Rain and he was the head writer on the tv show Justified. Also, I actually liked John Travolta and Christian Slater in their roles.
Antonia's Line, A Midwinter's Tale & Beautiful Girls are great 👍🌟🌟🌟
Siskel was right about Natalie Portman :)
WRONG.
In this show Siskel is taking me by surprise 😂 He changes his mind with a movie in the same review and gives a thumb down, he confesses he walked out of theater with another movie. He kills it here😆😆😆
The Legend of Cop-and-a-Half continues.....
it was pretty bad. ebert took an L
not particularly remember any of the films that week much, Broken Arrow and Black Sheep are the only two i remember at all and i dont really remember them even though i remember Tommy Boy well enough.
nice little tribute to Gene Kelly. i am not expert on musicals so i dont know if "Singin In The Rain" is the best of all time but its certainly the one i can most rewatch. and yes that famous dance scene where he sings the title song is classic, i sometimes watch that scene just to cheer myself up some. it genuinely captures the joyous exuberance and glee of falling head over heels for someone, grinning ear to ear and beaming without a care in the world. wonderful film, and a classic icon of golden era Hollywood.
Legend has it they're STILL arguing over Cop and a Half in heaven.
"Cop and a Half" interestingly was a box office hit at $40 million world-wide. Against a $14 million production budget. Siskel keeps asking Ebert to change his positive review of the film. I never saw it and probably never will.
This episode had two unique rvents:
1. Gene Siskel changed his rating to thumbs down 👎.
2. Gene Siskel admitted that he walked out of a movie.
R.I.P. Chris Farley.
Fucking love this. For all that’s holy I miss these guys. Better times.
Gene Kelly will be miss. I will always remember Gene Kelly being on The Muppet Show! His best performance on the dhow for sure in my mind!
This review is probably what made Chris Farley trash his hotel room
gene is 100% right about farley.
I like Antonia's Line and Broken Arrow.
I remember seeing beautiful girls for the first time thinking it's pretty creepy how that grown man has a psychological affair with Natalie Portmans character seeing that she's only 13
Siskel twisting his thumbs gets all the headlines, but his walking out of a movie is almost just as surprising.
I remember this episode one of few episodes where he changes his mind.
It's the ONLY time I believe.
do you have one for ''I know What You Did Last Summer'' and ''Street Fighter''
Life hack: if u c fast moving blades aimed at u, move your ass! Lol
Cop and a half stunk lol get 'em Gene
I was a child of the 90's and I never met a single kid of my age that didn't love Black Sheep. It's not going to win any Oscars, but it's funny *shrugs*
I agree, one of the worst comedies he's ever seen is completely absurd, and I love roger
Tommy Boy was funny... Black sheep was a steaming pile of shit by comparison.
Farley sucks and everything and even in his real life
@@steveb7932 Black Sheep is not one of the worst comedies ever made
I liked Black Sheep Not as such as Tommy Boy but I like that they hated it so much 😂
Both those films sucked shit.
Siskel seen here thinking it's a great insult to say Farley acts like a "fat man" to his overweight partner, Roger Ebert.
The late Farley was possbily the least funniest comic actor that I have ever seen ...never understood his popularity
He could be funny at times but i agree... soooo overrated
I found him hilarious when I was 9 but at 34, not so much.
(Fatty falls down) ....being fat is not a talent
falling down is not a talent
Loved him on SNL, but all his movies are garbage. The fact David Spade was in them just made them worse.
I laughed once ever...
Tommy want wingy
I never got Uma. So many movies carry on about how gorgeous she is. Don’t get me wrong I grew up on Baywatch. I like blondes but she is just.... gangly
ive never gotten it either.
Ah you like chubby girls got it
She’s gorgeous
@@steveb7932 fat shaming, real nice
@@crakatoot5480 lol ok
4:33 LOL
ebert stuck to his guns with cop and a half lmao
chris farley is funny.... siskel L ..the movie was bad tho
They are so wrong on Chris Farley its weird.
well black sheep was a steaming pile of shit
That guy sucked
