Just came back to this for reference. My friends and I are building a sculk farm soon, one that'll get us 30 levels right away. Currently, sculk blocks drop 1 xp each, so you'll need to break 1395 blocks, or just over 21 stacks (we'll say 22), so if we separate each row of sculk to create collums of 13×10×11 (that's just 6 extra sculk per collum), we'll have individual sculk collums worth 30 level each. We plan on flipping the direction, though, so the pistons are pushing the sculk blocks up towards the spawner, instead of further down. The less ladder usage, the better.

I think sculk would give more exp. A general mob kill would be like on average 5-8 exp. And 1 skulk from the video seem to be 2 and a quarter. Since it looked like the catalyst makes 3 by 3 squares of skulk. That's 2.25(3×3) = 20 bars of exp. For the farm it's the same, but only 3 skulks. Which is still 6.75. a slight lost, but a stable amount. And can be improved by increasing skulk yield.

Some of them even “break the game” so to speak. I mean, they have a gravity block duplicator and a farm for bedrock (the block) in survival! Those all require either some awkward AFK station or delve into grey areas for me like auto-clickers to work. You could build a cave base around this and not even have to AFK, really. You could _do stuff_ and just go down to eat your XP loaf in the basement every now and then. And if the XP is just happening over time, it doesn't matter if it's slower. It's there when you need it. Need 3 chest 3 hoppers a smoker a lot of fuel and a lot of potato's
Put one chest and one hopper on the top of the smoker so it is the cooking things
One on the back for the fuel
And one down for the cooked potatoes
let it cook everything in the chest to full the down chest and the hopper PRETTY IMPORTANT never take anything from the down chest just let it fill
