    This must be Master Lock's new prototype sampler. 😆 I don't know if they will ever give a damn about their locks.

    • @bosnianbill
      @bosnianbill  6 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Probably not. As long as uninformed people keep buying millions of them every year, ML has very little incentive to change anything.

      Bosnianbill very true sadly. The consumers lose. Keep us posted if they reply back to you.👌🏻🙋‍♂️

      My thoughts exactly. So i tell everyone i know and show them your videos. Even demonstrated how weak their locks are to a friend who didnt believe.

    • @dustysparks
      @dustysparks 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      and that's really the trick, some people you can tell them all you want, but until they see for themselves (and really ANYONE with a small amount of coaching can pick a Master), they'll never really take your word on it. "Show me" is really powerful, and it would take someone doing it on live TV on every major network before Master lost enough market share to give a damn... of course by then they wouldn't be able to afford changing their ways...

      i taught my cousin and her wife about master locks bs. they had small one on gate and dogs drug off keys. told them try another master key as there aren't many patterns. turns out one they had on a spare tire was close enough to gate that with a little wiggle it opened. lol. and their minds were blown that you used catfood can lid to open one.

    Re-pinning a Master Lock with American Pins makes it a nasty surprise. Did that to a 6321 of mine. All American Pins, and filled in the 6th pin chamber as well. It's my gym lock.

    • @bosnianbill
      @bosnianbill  6 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      Not my FIRST mistake this year, and probably won't be my last. The price of being a one-man production staff... I;m sure Pew Die Pie has 5-6 production staff (camera operators, makeup artists, sound engineers, etc) sitting around. Perhaps he'd let me borrow them every now an then?

    • @adriansrealm
      @adriansrealm 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Bill, you do just fine with what you have. PDP is not the gold standard on youtube. Mistakes happen, sometimes they warrant a light ribbing, sometimes not. This one did :)

    Damn. Got me excited for a moment. Looks like one of a four-pack I bought for work. We just use them to lock up a big dumpster and prevent some problems with illegal dumping we've had in the past, though. Not a major security concern.

    Hey Mr.Bill! Just so you know it's completely normal this day and age to be able to function properly both ways. Fortunately the Locksport community is extremely accepting and welcomes all no matter how your keyway turns or what you use to turn it, and for that I am grateful. Cool lock sweet picking!

    Bill buy another follower and file an edge down to gut these locks. You will run into them again. Simple mods and even a Master lock can put up a fight. I just got surprised yesterday when I bought a dirt cheap ten buck entry lock to use as a job temp. While keying it I was amazed to learn it had spool pins. I can't accept production costs would be much different with or without security pins. All this to say I think the message is getting thru. Keep it up!

From padlocks to euro locks with tumblers to zero lifts. Your videos are full of info and easy to listen to. Very helpful. I'm just waiting till I have a little more cash to buy a vice and a re-pinable lock with some serrated pins and a few of the padlocks uve shown that look like a challenge. Thanks for the good work. i worked security several years ago at a ball park, and they had schlage key ways, but they had a side cut on the side that i never quite figured out. i had a master key to all the doors in case of emergency, so all of those permutations are mind boggling. all of the box seats, the offices, and whatever was in the offices. in my mind's eye, i have an idea of how the side cut worked, but it would be fascinating to see the innards.

    Good lock. Unfortunately locking up valuables with a lock that needs a Phillips screwdriver is unadvisable. Great giveaway too. That is a wonderful jack knife and I am looking at picking up the praxis sets soon

  • @GarthGoldberg
    @GarthGoldberg 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Put some Loctite Red on those screws and that lock would be pretty tough in the field.
    It would cost Master (Fortune Brands) 10 cents to make those improvements. But multiplied by ten million locks, that's $1 million of company money you're giving away.

    When gutting, I notice that more often than not it seems that you just dump the springs out. Does their position matter if they differ? Or do they just differ in order to provide different/confusing feedback?

    • @bosnianbill
      @bosnianbill  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      On challenge locks I usually try to pull the pins out of the proper chambers to see if they are different. As you note, varying spring tensions can confuse feedback somewhat, especially if the spring strengths vary widely. On commercial locks, I usually just dump them out because it isn't cost effective for manufacturers to put that much thought into springs. You can usually tell if the springs are different after removing the driver pins and looking into the bible to see how deeply the spring sit in the chambers. Even on challenge locks, if they all look the same I simply dump them out to save time.

    The major problem with this "improved" Masterlock is that it can be essentially "picked" with a #1 Philips screwdriver. The improvement to security afforded by the superior pinning is completely canceled out by the fact that the bottom can just be unscrewed. Hit those screw heads with a TIG welder and permanently attach them to the case, and then you might be on to something.

Could you do a small list or video with the model numbers of good beginners padlocks to get. Lock you know can be picked easily? 《THUMPER》 Lock picking, Police accountability Given what others have noted (better cores in master locks with supervisor breakable bodies for lock-out-rag-out) that they are really in the business of filling the market with locks that are friendly to search and ceasure by law enforcement, never mind the few criminals who bother with picking locks instead of just forced entry smash and grab. Just a theory based on locksport videos, may be completely wrong.

    I'd love to win/ get some better pics. Against my better judgement and finding you and LPL I bought a cheap Chinese kit. Broke 3 pics the first day. Got pretty good at aggressive tactics but still having issues single pin picking a #3. I just can't seem to get the tension right to get these clicks you guys seem to get. Time to save up for better picks I think. On my #3 Master the last pin is a pain. I get it set but have to ease up tension to set one and 5 drops. I should send it to you so you can embarrass me single pin picking it in seconds. It's been on my tool box for over 25 years. Time for a new one anyway now that I can take it open in seconds. Lol.

Any advice? Did they do something different with this one? As far as I'm aware it's just one more pin, shouldn't be giving me this many problems.

    • @bosnianbill
      @bosnianbill  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only "difference" is that the older locks were made with more care and precision than the new junk. As such, they are more difficult to find the binding pins in, and thus a bit more difficult. Good luck!

      @@bosnianbill thanks. Right after I messaged this I managed to get it picked once for the first time ever but haven't been able to do it again. I think my problem lies in accidentally oversetting some of the pins. 5 is a high cut where as 3 and 4 are both very low and it's hard to avoid oversetting them when trying to get to 5.

    Master Lock would have to make a whole new arbitrary rating system and while they seem to like coming up with strange ratings, that might require effort and effort is something Master Lock likes to distance itself from. At present, it's probably just how hard one has to cough to frighten the lock into opening.

    Have ever you tried to open ABUS TITALIUM or any aluminium locks with Gallium? It not only opens... it destroys the lock!

    I'm still waiting for Master Lock to send Bill a check. he has shown that more improvements over the time that I've been watching his channel then anybody. He should account for at least half of their r&d budget.

    Maybe they could put that on their "tamper and hack-proof" room they boasted about in that one recent facility since, silly folk they are, I'd imagine they use one of their own locks. At least until they can afford a consultant to explain security and viable options without the stench of marketing

    Master Lock should just license the new Bowley Lock and mass produce it.

      I wouldn't want to carry the key for the Bowley. It would get hung-up on other things in my pocket or would tear the pocket itself.
