Great filming. Whatever else people might say about Hemel, all the green spaces shown are still there! My parents married at St John's Boxmoor and I grew up in Bourne End then Bovo, moving away 40yr ago. The electric train shown was spanking new to the railway towards the end of 1965 and the full electric service from Boxmoor to Euston started in March 1966.
I was born in St. Paul's hospital Queensway in Hemel Hempstead in 1954 and lived in Bennetts End, Adeyfield and lastly in Grovehill before emigrating to Germany in 1982. This lovely film brings back so many happy memories. However it is such a pity that the music is so loud and distorted. I used to love to walk around Gadebridge Park and have vague recollections of what it was like before the Leighton Buzzard road was built through it. There were the most beautiful old walled garden there which were full of dahlias in late summer. I can also remember the old railway bridge which used to span the end of Marlowes before it was demolished in 1960. Happy days.
I’m another St Paul’s baby(72’), lived in Barnacres Road & Peascroft Road. Went to school at Lime Walk & Hemel Grammer. Grandad used to take me for haircuts in Queens Square. My dad worked in the BP building spanning the road & I never knew it was an old railway. Moved away in 88’ but this is bring back some great memories.
My mum took my brother and myself from St. Albans ( where I still live) on the 330 bus around 1967/68 to a toy shop in Hemel Hempstead where she bought me a Triang Hornby train set and it started a love of model railways I still have all these years later. I guess my brother would have been the same age as the Little girl in the film. Happy memories. Great little film!
I went to look at the Roman dig. I would have been 7 at the time. One slight inaccuracy -- The Queens Square was opened by the Queen not the Queenmother.

the shop was probably Taylor and McKenna,it was a toy shop but the 1st floor was dedicated to model railways.

Pity this was digitized so badly - I bet the original 8mm film was far better than this.
Looks like a poor VHS copy made yonks ago.
