Uhh.. that dude could make this look bad now!? What are saying.. going to hip hop opens up his reservoir to make music combining the genres. One of the best producers of our time. Cant say that for most electronic/dubstep artists
SkrIllex music back then was like a perfect mash of Daft Punk's sampling, Justice's production style, Aphex Twin's song structures and melodies and Noisia's intense bass.
theres this whole theory where Skrillex (during this first era) was originally an collective of Sonny & other famous musicians production. where it was a "group" but Sonny was the "face" of Skrillex. i remember reading Noisia helped out, but it was only a pretty interesting theory im pretty sure
That was excellent and for those of you asking...there are tiny sample snips of old disco songs in there. I heard several different sounds from old songs...Bee Gees to name one...and Skrillex is using sounds as his palate to create amazing electronic musical paintings.
The amount of effort Sonny puts into tracks like Cat Rats is the amount every artist needs to. I'm not a perfect artist, and yet through learning from him I've began to develop skills that convince me I am near perfect just because of the effort put into the music.
***** Ok let me explain my definition of 'Old School' to you. Skrillex started to be popular in 2010 with his Scary Monsters EP. This track was made current 2010. It doesn't mean it's old; it only means that as one of his first track it can be considered old school. Since then, his songs have changed a lot in terms of style and tones. I'm 22.
Sonny released this right around when he had semi-admitted his love for the French electronic scene and I've realized that this track sounds a lot like something sebastiAn would've produced
Yesss absolutely, I was looking for this comment, it sounds a lot like Justice and even more like SebastiAn, Skrillex admitted that he was a big fan of both
This was so ahead of its time, you don’t even hear producers making stuff like skrillex’s old music, he had this otherworldly creativity back then which hasn’t been replicated by anyone since.
I think one reason this stuff doesn't get made anymore is it takes too much time. I'm starting to hear more producers make more minimalist stuff. More clean and crisp sounding productions. Plus this sound is very era specific. It sounds very 2010s. But for it's time, it's actually scary how good it is. I remember hearing this when I was getting out of middle school and I had no clue what it was. It sounded like everything I loved mixed together into a single style. Skrillex wasn't a dubstep producer completely. He made dubstep tracks here and there, but he really made electronic music heavy and poppy. Skrillex is the Metallica of dance music really.
Gavin Johnson Didn't say it was 2 years old. Just meant to say that music produced post 2000 seems to have a shorter shelf life in the public eye. To the masses songs tend to "lose their luster".
+Adam Łojewski OH I would love to know how you are planning to dance to this. In my head I grow six more arms and do the frickin squid.. No but seriously how do you imagine this song in clubs?
If you guys are wondering why this song isn't featured on any of Skrillex's EPs, so was I, and I just found out why. This is from his Sound-Cloud channel in 2010: "Old tune I made about a year ago for a fashion show for the clothing line Native Son. Was going through my hard drive of ableton sets and found this old guy lying around. Enjoy!" It's such a dirty song and I can't believe he just FOUND IT LYING AROUND =O
This song always reminded me of what it would be like if we got a Skrill song with Daft Punk. I’ve probably listened to this song 1000 times since 2012 always a solid track to come back to. Not to mention how ahead of the times this was!
He basically took stuff from artists like Justice, Daft Punk, Aphex twin, Excicion, Noisia, and essentially made it into his own thing, He wasn't even into Dubstep until he saw downlink, and 12th planet in LA, this was when these artists were like, really underground. Some of them must have went to england and met Benga, or Skream and took stuff from them and brought it over to the US. But skrillex also knew how to write songs, since he was in a already famous band, he had song writing experience and not just drop bass. His albums told a story, rather than just random shit. His biggest idol was micheal jackson as a kid. So really he infused a lot of pop aspects with heavier electronic styles and you got yourself a new style of EDM basically. But he also puts on amazing shows, and is a true frontman, very few DJs are like that.
