Thanks for watching the whole piece, I think it's one of his finest bass lines. One of many. Enjoy the show and thanks.

We all think this is geddy's finest bassline. Complex at times and it in the pocket banging rock n roll other times but always tightly locked with Neil.

Ok that was an impressive and enjoyable 15 minutes. But can you drive and play Geddy Lee air bass guitar at the time? 😃

You are absolutely right TJ, it is not only Geddy's finest creation, but one that I have always longed to play on bass myself. Thanks for the attention, care and expertise afforded to even attempt to play this track....😁

Just listened to about 5 of your covers, been watching you for a few years now, and I have to say your playing is a joy to listen to every time. Your covers showcase the huge library of the best Rock bassist to grace this planet. Nobody has a bigger library of interesting, intense, complex, melodic rock bass lines then The Ged. Thanks for highlighting and bringing the casual Rush fans into the endless Rabbit Hole of beautiful Geddy Lee bass. This is my favorite Rush piece, almost 40 yrs of listening to it and never bored of it. Keep slapping these out. Thanks

The bass line of this song is phenomenal and can be seen as a work of art that deserves to be appreciated. I can say that Geddy know do those "tricks" at the right time. Begins with low notes and goes down for acute ones, ending in a melody that Alex wanted to do with his the base guitar, clarifying with the bass. And it always watching the battery Neil, the bass notes always accompanied by a beat. Really, this song is one of the best of them, in the sense the guys actually studied and they put into practice.

Yahoo! Fantastic as always! I listened through Hemisphere's to end my after noon at work (graphic design) finishing several ads on my plate. As I shut down for the day I made a note to myself to check your site for Hemispheres when I got home. PRESTO! (well, that came later....). This piece the boys did back in the day just cruises along with such deliberately vibrant consistency. Still blows me away, long past the red vinyl album I wore almost flat and hundred years ago! Thanks again.

I used those exercises to develop my alternate plucking skills as well as build up strength, endurance, reach and speed. I only did them from the 5th fret down because I figured, if I could do them there, I could easily do them anywhere further up the neck.

Amazing, and that's not said with any amount of exaggeration. Can't believe how well you've learned and memorized this song (and all the others on your channel), let alone how flawless this performance was. I assume it was a long time in the making to get it down as well as you have... years, perhaps? I'm so impressed. Also, I have to add: much respect to ol' Ged for writing/performing such an amazing bass part... and at only 25 years old.

Evening my dear friend. Im in the same boat as Giuliano. About a month ago I stumbled across this and your "Seven Cities of Gold" covers. And I was sold. I purchased a Squire Vintage Modified Jazz Bass in a natural finish with a maple neck with black inlays. And now about 2 months later I have a 70RI Fender Jazz thats black and with a rosewood neck with pearloid inlays. Im polishing up some songs, but I should have about 5 videos up within the next few weeks. Looking forward to a good youtube friendship!

For me, if learning a RUSH song gets a little difficult to learn by ear, I always go to the reliable Troy for the answer. I just wanted to thank you for posting these covers, they've helped me and countless amounts of others along the way. If you can post covers of "Clockwork Angels" and "The Garden" I will love you forever (no homo). And I almost forgot, listening to you nailing my favourite RUSH epic is indescribable

I didn't think it possible but I have even more respect for Mr. Lee now. That he plays such intricate lines while singing and playing the pedals is mind boggling and you nailed the bass parts. Good, good show!

Great performance. I just am reminded that Geddy Lee does more than just play bass live and the bass parts are just incredible - especially this album. It takes dedication to these videos and they serve as great tutorials for aspiring musicians.

I have no idea how I kept missing this one, but this is flat-out hardcore. I've been listening to the original cut for some time; I was particularly looking forward to how you were going to handle my favorite sequence in this song (10:40-11:57), and I have to say it was a bloody success. Geddy settles into such a cosmically solid groove there, and you absolutely stand shoulder to shoulder with him.
That was a real treat, Professor. Many, many thanks.

I believe this is rush at their peak. You covered this PERFECTLY. im amazed, humbled, and inspired. Ive always wanted to learn this song, and hearing how delicate intricate this song really is... And how it literally doesn't repeat at all with all of the different phrasing... I was so intimidated and discouraged. I want to say im going to tackle this thing the old fashioned way with vinyl and headphones, but im just going to use your video to learn and enjoy the heck out of it. Bravo sir, standing ovation for this performance. And thank you for doing the dirty work!!

Imagine being at your "peak" at around 25 years old? I learned this on vinyl and I'd recommend something with a slider. You're going to develop carpal tunnel from moving that needle back. Take your time. I think it took me the better part of a summer to learn it and many more years to be able to play it somewhat fluently. Have fun and be patient!

My God, what an accomplishment to play this piece of music with such grace and effectiveness. I can understand why its one of your favorites. As for Geddy Lee, this sort of says it all.

Thanks so much. Yes, I'd been chipping away this song since the early 80's at the time I recorded this video. As you do, I also think it's a masterpiece. Yeah, Geddy threw in the kitchen sink on this one.

Great job Troy. The bass sound is a whole 'nother world from the way you used to do it. I think you have no choice but to re-do them all :-} Love the stuff in the section starting right before the 11 min mark

  • @TJH3113
    @TJH3113  11 ปีที่แล้ว

Up until a month or so ago I was uploading at 480p which was fine. Then recently, TH-cam was playing around with a "slow-down" feature which allowed you to slow the clip down but hear it at regular pitch. This maxed the quality out at 360p which is borderline, so I started uploading at 720p and have also started recording my bass direct, through GarageBand.
I will be sure to check out your covers, promise. I'm glad that you started posting. Thanks and take care.
