I was thinking the same things! You could use any old bottle or a used pringles tube/sleeve or the cardboard tube from a roll of kitchen towels or wrapping paper, if you have them. Also you could hold the ribbon ends in place together with safety pins that only pin the ribbon & could be left in too without the danger of hot glue damaging the diapers & other gifts.

The diaper padding always seems to do its job, but that may also be due in part to newborns getting diaper changes so frequently. I'm getting ready to do one for a baby shower and I like the format used on this diaper cake. I am going to tweet mine a little bit as far as the items and colors. I am doing one with the theme of "Little Allstar sports". Do you have any suggestions about the items, where I could possibly start to look for this theme. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Hi Brenda! The ribbons used on this cake were around 2 inches wide and 3-4 yards long. The burlap ribbon was 3-4 inches wide and 2 yards long. I sourced the ribbons, burlap, wooden letter "A", yarn for pom poms, and silver card board from Hobby Lobby. The cute, plush animals came from Babies R Us. The diapers, rubber bands (large & small), and baby bottle were all from Walmart. It is a little tricky trying to find the special toys/decorations you need for the theme you want. I usually find my items at Babies R Us , Hobby Lobby, or Walmart in the toy and plush sections. I try to get some items that are useful and go along with the nursery theme of the baby's room. For a sports theme, I would check out Walmart or Target. Sometimes they have little sports items for babies in the nursery room decoration section. Another idea would be to use little triangle banners and maybe you could paint various balls/sports gear on each triangle and hang it around the different layers of the cake. If baseballs, footballs, soccer balls, etc...are too hard to find, painting styrofoam balls and putting wooden sticks in them wound make it easy for application! As far as the topper goes, using a little mini glove or hat would also work with your theme. I hope some of this info is helpful! Thanks! In our experience, the items you mentioned are not rendered unusable. We have been able to successfully reuse everything from this exact design several times with no problem. The diapers still hold and the hot glue on the bottle easily peels off. No complaints from our moms! However, it also would not be terribly difficult to modify the process as one sees fit. Creative thinking is the name of the game! 😃
Ummm you aren't suppose to use pins in the cake, that makes the diaper cake useless for the momma to be. Why would you do that? Poor momma to be going to wonder why all the diapers were failing her in her and the babys need
Ok. I don't get your decor? To each their own tastes but I don't get the logic. Why put on gray burlap then the same size green burlap. If it was 1/2 so the gray was shown I'd get it but it only covered it up...so what was the point then? Then while a few pompoms were cute...why so many? You cut half the yarn in making them.. why not make them smaller then. Also why not put instead pacifiers or socks etc. In the tummy's instead of pompoms? Your animals were adorable tho. And I thought the bow n A was going on the cake but it was just beside it. I appreciate the effort you put into it but seemed like so much was wasteful n odd to me. Guessing the person getting cake or you like making pompoms.Thats the only logic I can think of. Sure person will appreciate gift regardless.

It's pretty, but by putting pins in the diapers and gluing the bottle to the cake stand it renders those items unusable...that doesn't help mom much.
