    It's taken some time and this video has actually been mostly ready for a while now, but I needed a break. My father passed away a few days before Christmas. He had been battling cancer for a few years now but was taking medication that allowed him to be close to 100%. In a way, that medication often made us forget that he had this cancer and that he would stick around for a good while... until he fell quickly ill. He woke up normally, shaved, ate a good breakfast and two days later, he was gone. You can never prepare for something like this. He was a great person, husband and father. A proud Spanish man (he moved to Canada at 19 where he met my mother), his love for the simple things like food, wine, nature and his country was contagious and will always stay with us and shape who we are. Appreciating the simple things is a life lesson because once you do, you no longer feel the need to hunt for a more superficial happiness. I am thankful not to have regrets with my father while he was living, he knew how much I loved him. It's all about grief now and future regrets of him not being around when many other great memories are created. Unfortunately we all have to go through this someday and lose people we care so much about. If there is one thing I can tell you is to do everything you can so that you don't live with regrets once someone you appreciate passes. Grief is already tough enough without those. I'm staying strong, especially for my mother. Life goes on and I feel like this video being a tribute to the Quintet trilogy is fitting. Cheers.

      Damn man, sorry for your loss. Hope you're doing somewhat okay, and are here for your mother. This hits too close to home, my dad was diagnosed too, a few months ago. It's hard news. Thanks for the constantly great uploads, you made a lot of people discover great music, including me. Best wishes for the future.

      Sorry for your loss. Thank you for your uploads and for this sad yet beautiful message. Based on my own personal experiences and memories with the Quintet trilogy, I agree it is a fitting tribute. I think the best games, like the best of any art form, teach us to value and treasure life, and to strive to live in a way that reflects our values. Kudos to you for living up to that inspiration - treasuring your dad in life and inspiring others. Best wishes to you and your mom.

    Played this game around 1998/1999 and still waiting for a Remake after over 20 years. One of the Best RPG in SNES indeed, not just the story but music and how it could immerse you inside the game.

    I’m so sorry for your loss, and the pain I can only imagine it brings as well. I wish you and your family the best under the unfortunate circumstances it has brought you in, and that the good memories of your father remain to comfort you still.
    1. The Donkey Kong Country Trilogy.
    2. Undertale was a game I actually shed tears for at the end of it, but many games have brought me to the verge of it too, or left me feeling like I have wanted to.
    3. Though Treasure is technically still around, I do miss the creative, fun, and original games they would push out.
    4. I always used to go with sword in an Action RPG setting, but spear, magic, and staff are favorites I like to go with as well.

  • @Alfr3d_F
    @Alfr3d_F ปีที่แล้ว

    My condolences SD. I understand the "gotta stay strong" feeling, but remember to allow yourself the space to not needing to be so strong all the time. As for the questions:
    1. I like too many games to have a favorite, but if I had to highlight one I'd pick the Ace Attorney first three games. The only ones that I literally could not put down.
    2. I'd say the ending of Kingdom Hearts 358/2 on the NDS. My first Kingdom Hearts and probably the last. These emotional moments are rare, but they are all treasures.
    3. Not really miss, but it is sad how some companies are just a shell of what they used to be. I remember when seeing Konami or Blizzard Entertainment when turning a game on was a sign of good things ahead.
    4. This keep changing for me. Back in my RPG days I'd probably have said Axe, but now I'd go for a spear. RPGs used to be my favorite genre but these last years I just cannot handle them that much.
    Bonus 1: I really love that you're still doing the questions every hundred entries.
    Bonus 2: The Overworld theme of Terranigma is mindblowingly good and it's a shame that during normal gameplay you never get to the really good part because it does not take that long to get to places.

    Miyazaki hasn't really been involved in the industry for a while outside of the occasional slot machine cabinet.
    Quintet's final completed game was Inuyasha The Curse of the Black Mask. They kept soldiering on for another couple of years until they went defunct in 2008.
    Hashimoto is now retired from the industry. I believe he later left for Ancient, a company started by Yuzo Koshiro, and later retired sometime in the 2010s.
    Kamui Fujiwara, the character designer for Terranigma, is in the anime industry and even has his own art studio. He's probably the one person who wants to see a remake of Terranigma the most, along with composer Miyoko Takaoka.
    AAAAaaanyway, to answer your questions:
    1. Probably the original Spyro trilogy. They encompassed my childhood and they've aged surprisingly well for games that are nearing 25 years old.
    2. Terranigma, I almost shed tears in the Trails series, honestly I rarely get emotional when playing a game, unless it gets super emotional.
    3. Honestly, I gotta say Visceral Games. Mostly because I want my sequel to Dante's Inferno already.
    4. Swords or any short-range weapon. I like being in the face of my enemy for some reason.

    I'm sorry for your loss, take as long as you need. Some people need time, others like to fill their days with stuff to help distract. Find the method that works for you and just keep going 1 day at a time. Time doesn't heal all wounds but enough time can make it easier to remember the good times and not the grief.

    So sorry to hear of your loss. At least you were always on good terms with your father. You're lucky to have that.
    Did you have any positive gaming memories with your father?
    **UPDATE**
    Oh, as for the questionnaire at the end, I would say-
    1. As far as *consistent* trilogies go, it'd go to the 1st three Donkey Kong Country games.
    2. My (almost) near tear jerker came (NO SPOILERS HERE) in end credits sequence of Nier Automata and what it represented about humanity and the humanistic choice of self-sacrifice.
    3. I miss Sakurai's SORA studios after their exceptional work on Kid Icarus: Uprising. Some of the most fun I've ever had on the 3DS.
    4. My bare fists would be my weapon as a martial arts/thief hybrid class in an Action-RPG.

    I'm sorry for your loss friend. I know how it feels to lose someone that you love. It'll be 3 years in March that i'll have lost my grandma, but I know deep down that she is no longer suffering. As for the questions:
    1. Of the games that i have played, the Jak Trilogy is my favorite
    2. I teared up during the final boss for Earthbound
    3. I know it's not defunct, but i miss the days when Rare was not owned by Microsoft
    4. I have not played an action RPG yet, but I will be playing Tales of Symphonia Remastered when it arrives

    Really sorry to hear about your dad, and thanks for letting us know - I hope you're doing well now
    1. uuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhh xenosaga, haven't played it but the music is incredible so it's gotta be interesting
    2. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers' ending. Granted I was 10 at the time, but the pacing and buildup of the game's story is still great.
    3. AlphaDream, the people who made the Mario&Luigi RPGs. Unfortunately the reason why they tanked was because they made a remake of BiS on the 3DS... After the switch launched. The saddest thing about it is they could have done _so much more_ with their quick time event RPG formula - imagine if they turned other nintendo IPs into RPGs.

    Sorry about your father. I've yet to play any other Quintet game except Actraiser, though this trilogy has been on my list for a long time. Hopefully I'll find the time to get to them at some point. As for the questions:
    1. The Dark Souls trilogy is my favourite no question, followed by Trails in the Sky.
    2. Never truly cried, but there are a few times I've had to walk away from a game for a little while because of how something in it impacted me emotionally. Valkyria Chronicles comes to mind, as well as Nier: Automata, both surrounding a character's death.
    3. Westwood Studios is the first one that comes to mind. The classic Command & Conquer games are still some of my all-time favourites.
    4. Depends on the game and how the weapons feel to use. No real go-to that I always pick.

      @Zeutomehr ปีที่แล้ว

      as for your questions:
      1. mmh, not sure. the monkey island games, I'd say.
      2. the ending of PMD2 is the most I've ever cried while playing a game.
      3. Warp. I've only played 2 of their games, D and Enemy Zero(and only because of the soundtrack you uploaded some time ago), but they were such unique experiences.
      4. both axes and spears. spears are nice because you can continuously harass enemies at a distance, and axes/hammers are nice in the way you have to anticipate your enemy's attacks to get a hit in.

    1. Hard to say as there are a lot of them and there are many I haven’t played. I like the SNES Donkey Kong Country trilogy a lot.
    2. To the Moon made me cry during the Everything’s Alright scene and the ending.
    3. AlphaDream. I enjoyed the Mario and Luigi games a lot.
    4. It depends on the game. I’d maybe say sword generally though.
    Also, sorry for your loss. He sounds like a wonderful person.

    Sorry for your loss. I lost my father to leukemia in a similar way. Two years in remission after a stem cell transplant and then he suddenly felt ill, went to the hospital, and passed a day later.
    1.) The Ezio Trilogy for Assassin's Creed, Xenoblade Chronicles, or the three Bioshock games.
    2.) Probably the end credits of Okami.
    3.) Even though Platinum Games exists, I still miss Clover Studios.
    4.) Most likely bows.

  • @KeeperBvK2
    @KeeperBvK2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Tough questions this time! Hmmm.
    1. Can't think of too many trilogies...does Mega Man Legends (with Misadventures of Tron Bonne) count? Or DCK. Or the Quintet trilogy, of course. Terranigma has been my favorite SNES game ever since its release.
    2. I can't think of any intentionally emotional moment (except maybe for Undertale. I think I got some wet eyes there), but I remember crying as a kid when playing DKC1, and I couldn't reach a save point in the factory world, as you had to beat like 5 or 6 levels. Haha.
    3. I am not sure if Cave is technically defunct, as they suddenly started porting some games again a few years ago, but their last new shmup not made exclusively for phones is like...a decade old by now? Aside from that I miss Hudson. And the Rare of the old days. And Quintet, of course.
    4. Sword. Nice balance of speed, damage and control.

    @clydethehobo2687 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My condolences for your loss, Supra. I've never been in a situation like yours but I can't imagine it's been easy.
    1. Probably Insomniac's Spyro trilogy. Never got around to the first game until way later but all three of these games are like comfort food to me. Backlog be damned, I still make time to replay them every 9-11 months.
    2. I've never cried at a game but Clannad got close with the anime adaptation. That and the game are both incredibly emotional. I'd tell you what scenes but that'd involve spoilers.
    3. Konami. Damn, I miss new Castlevania games. :(
    4. Depends on what has the biggest numbers. If there are no numbers, swords I suppose. Truthfully, I like inventive weapons that aren't your standard RPG fare. (scythes, rifles, frying pans, etc.)

    Sorry for your loss! Thanks for keeping with the best VGM list, it's always something I look forward to so I can hear more incredible game music I've never heard before.
    1. Metroid Prime, though that will soon be a quartet!
    2. Not sure about tears from sad parts in games, but the last few moments from the Dragon Quest 11 opening bring on some happy waterworks.
    3. Cing is one I miss greatly as Hotel Dusk and Trace Memory were fantastic games with a lot of heart!
    4. In a game like Fire Emblem, spears are the way I play!

  • @RHINO_Mk_II

    I'm sorry about your father, but I'm glad you were able to cherish the time that you did have together.
    1. I haven't played all 3 games of many trilogies, so my vote has to go to Total War: Warhammer 1-3. Strong contenders if I had played the third title would be Mass Effect and The Witcher series.
    2. Too many times. The most emotional moments for me were in CrossCode, specifically in the Vermillion Wasteland and later at Gaia's Garden. I also cried at the ending campfire in Outer Wilds, at the return to Kharak in Homeworld, and at the launch in To The Moon.
    3. RIP Westwood Studios, the recent remaster of C&C and Red Alert reminded me of all the RTS games we might have seen from them had they not been disbanded by EA a few years after the acquisition.
    4. ___ and shield. Preferably hammer or axe, but sword works too. Gotta have the shield tho.

    1. Zenithia trilogy. Mostly for Dragon Quest 4 and 5. Two of my favorite games.

    3. Core Design. I love the old Tomb Raider Games.
    4. Sword and Bow combo.

    My condolences for your loss, Supra. I'm glad you remember your father fondly, and I hope you'll remember him well for a long time.
    2) Plenty of times. I find it magical when a game moves me so much. The one moment that comes to mind is from NieR: Automata, entering Pascal's village for the first time. I'm non-violent by nature and I didn't even realize just how much I'd grown to dislike video games forcing me to hurt people, then trying to make me feel bad about it after the fact. So many 'pacifist' playthroughs are one-sided: You can try all you like to be stealthy, diplomatic and non-lethal, yet usually, all enemies will hunt you down and kill you on sight in cold blood. Entering that village and seeing everyone innocently waving white flags and making a celebration of it while the village theme plays in, especially after the brutality and psychopathy of the boss immediately preceding it, that really moved me. It still does just remembering it.
    4) The uncontested king of weapons: The spear has been humanity's greatest weapon for millenia. I pick it in every game where it's a choice, even when it's a bad one. Otherwise I tend to go for the unconventional or outright silly - the ludicrous array of weaponry is part of the reason I've had a soft spot for Guilty Gear ever since Strive released. In that game, the world's strongest human fights with a coffin that houses an alien and he calls it Area 51; I adore straight-faced absurdity like that.

    If it helps making you feel better in any way, I'll answer your questions:
    1. This is a hard one but I gotta choose the Metroid Prime trilogy because it made me a fan of Metroid. Amazing music, great boss fights, the space pirates had a bigger role than they ever did, and the scanning mode added a lot of lore.
    2. The closest I ever shed tears was in the ending of Metal Gear Solid 4. Been with the franchise since the NES days and funny enough, Solid Snake shares the same name as my dad so I always liked him (although it's more of his character than his real name). And I know MGS4 has quite the nonsensical story but the ending did leave an impact on me.
    3. Free Radical Design. I love Timesplitters and the fourth game being canceled really sucks. I would've even bought that Remaster they were supposedly planning to do but it never came.
    4. I really don't care what weapon I use in an Action RPG. Just give me a character I like and it's smooth sailing for me.

  • @klondikesaloon7026
    @klondikesaloon7026 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    1. Trilogy is tough, becuase if a game is $uccessful enough to get two sequels, they don't tend to stop there. I guess I'll go for Halo 1-3m when it was all Bungie, great gameplay and pacing.
    2. almost certainly, but I'm having a hard time remembering...it's been years, but maybe Ocarina of Time? Maybe? During the credits. Possibly back when Twitch Plays Pokemon beat the game the first time.
    3. Does Rare count? But that's not really fair to Rare itself
    4. Bow tends to be overpowered and/or safer. After that, I'd probably try fists and/or staff but not like it, lol, and then use an ax.

    • @Gigamyt3
      @Gigamyt3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I would say I miss traditional Rare too. There was such a consistent design philosophy with each of their games that helped them stand out from one another. Even during the 360 era, there were still some overlooked gems like Viva Pinata that showed even some of the few remaining old and new guards left were scratching to make something unique until Microsoft further stamped their boots on forced restrictions.
      If 343's debacle is any indication, buying and making studios isn't necessarily the same guarantee as carefully managing them in a successful fashion when there's no clear foresight.

  • @arios6443
    @arios6443 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    1. This might be a bit abstract, but I've always viewed Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, and Twilight Princess as a sort of unofficial trilogy. Maybe that's cheating, but meh.
    2. Final Fantasy IX, "You Are Not Alone." If you know, you know.
    3. Skip. I miss Chibi-Robo. : (
    4. I'll be boring and say Sword, though magic reigns supreme, in my opinion.

    1. Dragon Age (Won't be a trilogy when the 4th comes out) and Warcraft 1-3 (shaped my childhood) Especially with how much I still loved the characters of 3 rather than what they became in WoW.
    2. FFXIV - Shadowbringer and Endwalker definitely made me shed some tears. I would play it if you like a story about the human condition.
    3. Westwood studios which got swallowed up by EA and the people who worked on the command and conquer games would eventually form their own companies.
    4. Halberd

    1.- Heaven and Earth trilogy and of course Terranigma, it was one of my first JRPG that i played and part of the ones that marked me in my acquired taste for this genre (along with illusion of gaia, seiken densetsu 2 and 3, secret of evermore, etc).
    2.- The ending of terranigma was the first time i cried with a game, i was between 8 and 11 years old, maybe? when i started playing these game that i have on my computer in the snes emulator, it was pretty sad because for me, ark DIED with no return possible because of the death of dark gaia, the one who creates him, so seeing him dreaming/having a vision of the futuro of the humanity was so inspiring and sad for me, im reading the manga translated to spanish so i can understand what happens in the end, someones say that he reincarnated together with the light ark, others share my understanding of the end. f someone can explain me what really happens i will be very grateful, also if you can tell me if the manga is CANON.
    3.- All of them, i read on twitter that 2 developers are interested on making a terranigma remake but idk if nintendo thinks of it, it would be GREAT to see the great games like the QUINTET TRILOGY/Heaven and Earth saga to be remaked like they did with old games like they did with Seiken Densetsu 3.
    4.- I love swords, like really really loving them, is the default weapon for a hero
    Also... my condolences for your loss to you Mr. Supra, hope you do well, your father would be proud of you, my best wishes to you and your family

    But if the remake of ActRaiser is what we can expect from Square in terms of remakes (alas it seems that way) they better keep their hands off. ActRaiser Renaissance is garbage.

    How can you say Illusion of Gaia's "gameplay is quite average" in the same video where you praise SoulBlazer's gameplay? The gameplay there consists of "stand in one place... slash enemies as they appear... repeat infinitely until game is beaten". It's awful. Illusion of Gaia's combat is more fun than Terranigma's combat and required grinding, too. Terranigma shines in the music and story department, but Illusion of Gaia has by far the best gameplay of the trilogy.

      I was going to agree wholeheartledy to your post (didn't like Skyblazer's gameplay at all), but then: Illusion of Time's gameplay is better than Terranigma's? Wow, in my eyes, Time's gameply is super average (like the most vanilla "we have Zelda at home" you can imagine, and also clunky in places), while Terranigma's gameplay just flows so effortlessly. To me, Time's biggest asset are its story, atmosphere and music. Terrnigma, on the other hand, is a complete package.

      The way I wrote it can definitely make it confusing, but when I mentioned SoulBlazer's great gameplay I was directly referring to the town rebuilding aspect, which I feel gives you a constant flow of immediate rewards. The combat gameplay is definitely nothing special and better in IOG, though still very average in my view. I don't play IOG for its gameplay, but for its great atmosphere.

      tbh Illusion of Gaia's gameplay is a bit on the stiff side.
      and you can tell Enix had a lot more to do with its development
