I knew a pig farmer years ago that went to a pie factory in our area and got the pie dough that they were throwing out and fed it to his pigs. He was thrilled to have this source of food.
OK, how about dehydrated milk we have a lot of it here in Utah and the churches get rid of it in mass quantities from time to time. Would it be worth adding it as a supplement to the dry feed? Love your content, bro keep doing what you’re doing.
Or might dilute it 1 to 10 with water and fertilize the plants this way - which the pigs can eat later which grew more lush. Plants need calcium & the milk-sugar boosts in short term the microbiology in the soil.
Yes, there's a lot of research using powdered milk as a boost. That's often used in feeds for younger pigs. I don't have any experience with powdered milk, personally, but have ready about it in the context of feeding waste milk.
@@DowdleFamilyFarms awesome thank you brother. Will definitely give it a try planning on getting just six to start next year on our 5 acre plot thinking of dividing it into 10 subplots moving every two weeks. probably not gonna receive a lot of nutritional value from the forage itself at first so supplemental feeding is going to be key and any good cheap sources are definitely going to help with overall cost. I have a lot more questions, but I won’t waste anymore of your time;your content has always been amazing. I’ve been watching it from day one just keep doing what you’re doing, brother 👍
The pumpkin seeds are a good worner, but you hit on something in one of your other videos,,, was the SIZE , OF YOUR FOOD,, fine grinding of certain things , will digest and absorb better
I would not rely on pumpkin seeds worming pigs. I fed 40,000 pounds of pumpkins and had loads of worms. Under the right circumstances, it might work, but I wouldn't rely on it.
@@DowdleFamilyFarms well every natural wormer, will work differently in each animal, for some its a good wormer, for other animals it is just a supportive wormer is what I call it.. it don't kill the worms , it helps the other herbs function better.. What will kill lung worms in cows, don't work in dogs , or cats .. enzyme/digestive enzymes chemistry is different... pumpkin seeds work good on goats , dogs ,cats chickens if it's grounded up in powder The pellet maker is a must on every farm I think ... 99% no wasted feed , you can add to it the nutrients if needed , cut down that Sorghum's grass before it gets toxic , grind it into pellets... Anyway I could pick your brain all day.. I'm learning this for the first time , ... do you collect your own seed now from your plots ? 1 acer with 4 plots would make for a lot of seed ... 🤔
Recently find out about growing meal worms, locusts and crickets .. I think they are a cheap and great source of protein but I'm not sure about the lysine levels in insect feed supplement
How about growing turnips and Diakon radish? Barkant turnip, since they're the bulb type. I've always thought these in a mixture for fall grazing......
Will you please do a video about your thoughts concerning pig nose rings for rooting? I recognize it changes the 'characteristic' of the pig... but I'd like to know your thoughts.
This may be a dumb question. If you process your own poultry can you feed the heads feathers and feet to pigs? I'm talking about for on farm use not for sale.

Sure, I'll see what I can do.

I know people who do, but it violates USDA regulations, even for personal use.
Does chicken also have similar issues protein issue
I'm not well versed in poultry nutrition, but they need certain kinds of protein as well.
Yes. Lysine and methionine are very important for chickens.
Is it ok for pigs to eat pine cones?
