  • As more and more people on the globe are living in industrialised societies, more and more people think the way to manage time will be more or less based on a universal value (emphasising on-time performance). Sounds like a solid statement..?

    Very interesting video!
    I would assume those most industrialised societies developed monochronic time as a result of factories, railways etc.
    Africa has remained mostly rural, even during western colonial times, so people have not had the time pressure of starting/finishing shifts at precise times.
    Also, countries like the UK are historically well connected with passenger railways following strict timetables whereas railways in Africa were primarily built for raw materials, not people.
    I also wonder how much climate has an effect on time management as most tropical or sub-tropical countries become un-unbearably hot in the afternoon and the focus changes to siesta/relaxation time.
    I have often imagined Singapore's economy would not have developed as it did if air conditioning had not been invented.....
