Accents change literally every 20 miles in any direction. For such a small landmass island, the UK has so many diverse accents and different words/dialects for many things including bread rolls, scones, tea/dinner etc

I'm a Geordie born and bred and have to say he is accurate in describing our accent, which has been voted one of the best accents in Britain ! if we speak in broad Geordie there is not many in this country can understand us let alone around the world and it's not just slang, we have a whole language known only to Geordies ;)

After over a decade in the army I got very used to decyphering the smorgasbord of UK accents. But I recall the first time I came across a broad Brummie accent, coming from the South East of England I had no idea at the time what this guy was saying to me. He got more and more frustrated, getting louder and louder. Whilst I just became more and more bemused. Hard to believe we were both supposedly speaking the same language. I still struggle with drunken Glaswegian though.

A lot of this went over your heads. This might help you with some of the references:
Geordies: People from Newcastle in the N.E not far from the Scottish border. Stereo typical phrases include:
    - Wye-aye man!: An exclmation of agreement.
    - Howay man!: An exhortation of encoragement. Can be positive or negative depending on context.
    - Toon: Town. Usually refers either to Newcastle City centre or the local football team Newcastle United.
    - Shrearer. Legendary Newcastle football player for Newcastle Utd and England and was the record scorer in the PL.
If you want to hear a Geordie accent here's a bit of classic comedy drama 'Auf Wiedersen pet'
    th-cam.com/video/QFlPAXVV7eY/w-d-xo.html
    Scousers: People from Liverpool.
    - Giro: Slang for unemployment benefit cheques. Liverpool has historically suffered from high unemployment, poverty and as a consequence thievery.
    - Hub caps: A Scouse stereo type is that they're all thieves who'll steal the hub caps from your car due to the above.
Comedian John Bishop is a great example of a scouse accent:
    th-cam.com/video/JqgwO4zKKkw/w-d-xo.html
There are a huge variety of accents in the UK and sometimes even other locals can't understand those with really strong accents from the inner cities.😀

    • @markjones127
      @markjones127 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

The Scousers being thieves reputation thing was a consequence of rivalry between Liverpool and Man Utd football fans, they basically had a running battle over many years about who could steal the best designed gear, and Liverpool fans won.

Over a couple of thousand years, what is now the uk and Ireland had that many invading army's land on the shores, pockets of different people lived for long times in different kingdoms, tribes or ethnicities.
This is one of the main reasons why every 20 miles the accent changes drastically
I suggest that you do a serious, not comedy video about accents from the uk.
It will be educational for you 👍
But if you want a funny al Murray vid you'll definitely understand

Very accurate interpretation of regional accents! Generally we can detect where in the UK a person is from as soon as they begin speaking. I live in Wales, we have a large influx of visitors during the holiday season and that is a difficult time for us. We speak without inference, but many of the english regions use slang which leave us clueless as what is said…. Like you, we just smile, nod you head and think…. What on earth has just been said…..!
There is a little British humour in this statement…..

Chamois leather, pronounced "Shammy leather". Usually kept in the car for wiping steamed up windows.
If you want to hear a collection of British accents watch an episode of the 80's sit com 'Auf Weidersien Pet'. Including 3 Geordies (Newcastle), 1 Cockey (London) 1 Scouser (Liverpool), 1 Westcountry (Bristol), 1 Brummie (Birmingham)

Al is a comedy Genius and his accents are very accurate, although exaggerated. Geordies (people from Newcastle) shout "Toon!", because they pronounce "Town" as "Toon", and their favourite football team is Newcastle Town, which they shorten to "Toon!" When they shout "Shearer" they are referring to their Teams famous captain and top goal scorer(Alan Shearer). Scousers are People from Liverpool and also have strong accents. I think you were not quite ready for ths video yet. Al has a degree in history and is very intelligent and just plays the character "The Pub Landlord", that is not his real persona. Cheers 8-)

There is a young lady with a channel called Anglophenia who takes you on a partial tour of UK accents, and does a good job. This was exaggerated but for we Brits, spot on. As for Al Murray, his "How Global Finance really works", "Countries of the World", and "all jobs are terrible" are popular and worth a watch, and in two of those he explores accents too. You could do worse than watch a whole show (broken up into parts of course if reacting), to get a better Idea of his overall performance. Anyway, up to you of course and this was fun to watch. Hoping you and yours are, and remain well.

    @seanmc1351 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

The geordie, i beg you to listen to it back and you will get after i explain.
First the special brew reference, we are known to be drinkers in the north east, many will visit a weatherpoons pub, which open from 8am to 10am in our region, many will be waiting at the door to open, hence the special brew, its a can of beer high in alcohol, known as the alcoholics drink, the one he gets the morning after, to put himself right for the day, or to get him started for the day ahead. when you hear al, call the toon, thats slang for town, instead of saying im going down the town, its im going down the toon, the cry of the whale shearer, was one of newcastles great football players, you often hear it called, shearer. and shouted after a 7 or 8 pints of newcatle brown ale, the high pitch all does, also come from the accent, where words often end in a higher pitch,
where you have have the greeting you alright in the UK, in newcastle it would be you alreeeet, the hight picth with it

NEVER call us a SCOTCH person !! We are SCOTS or SCOTTISH ! SCOTCH is a drink !!
The Newcastle United football team's nickname is THE TOON and their supporters are called THE TOON ARMY. There captain used to be ALAN SHEARER. Nothing to do with Finding Nemo !
    It's SCOUSERS not SCOUZERS.
You wanted to hear the " British" accent !!?? They were ALL accents within Britain.
There is NOT a singular British accent. It changes every 10 miles or so.
English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish people DON'T have a "British" accent . They have the accent of their OWN country and it's various dialects.
There is NO SUCH THING as a "British" accent.

Britian is made up of three countries. You get an english accent, the same as the scotish and welsh accent but no british accent. If english is the british accent, then so is scotish and welsh too. Its kinda like saying hawains speak with an american accent as opposed to an hawain accent. Class dismissed!
