JPEG files are larger than the High Efficiency and retain more detail. Try out a 4K video screen shot and you will see a larger file too compared to that of the 1080 FHD 60/30fps and it is sharper than the 1080 screen shot. Pretty cool feature when you know how to capture it. Also try out the Panorama Mode and compare the files of High Efficiency to the Most Compatible…..the sizes are different.

1:49 high efficiency uses less space , it does not use more space ..
Most compatible is just for better compatibility for older devices. ( h.264 (old) , h.265 (new) )

@@noraa7690 big aperture, long exposure is the key for low light. Night mode will give you the best shot, in terms of exposure. So you only need to manipulate the aperture and/or ISO, which can be tricky with iPhone. Might be worth looking at a third party app. But plain old night mode should be good enough. I used to shoot at festivals on my iPhone X and it was fine, with just the stock app.

Yeah, so I just took a Panorama shot of my living room and the HIEF size is 1/2 the size of the JPEG with less detail. It is a compressed file to save space,that is what High Efficiency does, it saves space but loses quality.
