After this TV show, Henk sang together with Floor "The Phantom.." and other duets as a guest in all the solo shows held by Floor in 2020 - 2021, and then together with Nightwish, in 2022 in Amsterdam, and Floor was guest in the shows held by Henk. A beautiful friendship, born of mutual respect and admiration.
Now the other performance you need to check out from Best Zangers is Emma Heesters (the young lady Floor sang Shallow for). She performed a song for Floor called Strong. Floor wrote that song way back when she was in After Forever and she wrote it for her mother. Emma's performance of it was so beautiful it brought Floor to tears.
The band Disturbed covered The Sound of Silence. A must listen - both versions are fantastic (studio and live on Conan O’Brien) most people seem to prefer the live on Conan.
I prefer the official video, because the visuals provide for additional impact. On the day of the show, David was reportedly ill, and the show added even more pitch correction (auto tune) than the studio version is using. Apparently - it has been claimed - without David's prior consent. Now, pitch correction - if used by excellent vocalists which David undoubtedly is - is not bad per se, but it does take away from the "human" performance!

Not only did he sing this for floor, he even learned how to sing with distortion just for her. This was really the first time anybody heard him sing like that. Not only did her idol sing a song for her, he even learned a new technique to be able to do that. In this format all singers respect one another by doing one another's songs, sometimes in their own style, sometimes stepping out of their comfort zone by singing in the style of the person on the couch, Like Henk did here. They copied the format in some other countries. The german version is Sing Meinen Song. Floor participated in that show last year. Look it up, but a reaction video will be blocked.

Full episodes can be found on Odysee. Even with English subs for those who don't speak Floorian.😊 IMO, that German show is inferior to Beste Zangers. Here, the other singers were actually good. There, Floor is lightyears ahead of everyone. Hearing their versions of her songs made me seriously cringe. If that weren't bad enough, the f@%#!ng autotune makes it unlistenable. There is some pitch correction done on Beste Zangers too (you can hear it when Henk hits those high notes in this video), but it's tolerable. The talk between the songs is quite interesting though.
@@LenaDee666 @Debbie, the DM version is in german, there used to be a translation by Jennie Self, but that was on another platform and I can't remember which (or perhaps they are deleted). During the show she speaks german, her accent is much more during those conversations than when she sings. But we should give her some slack, it is after all the 5th language she speaks (Dutch, English, Finnish (apparently not fluent), Swedish, German).
Hoi! They do that with all the singers. The concept is that every singer has an episode where they are the center of attention and the other singers bring an ode to them. They try to make a song personal as a present for the other. It is no competition but likewise people who love to sing and honor the other. So beautiful. (And yes, Ogene will give you goosebumps to! 😉😉😉)
Oh Uncle Henk.... A real Amsterdammer 💙 His performance was quite exciting. Especially since he had to sing with distortion, a technique in which singers give a raw edge to their voice. That doesn't happen in the opera... he was so nervous.... but he ended up singing this for Floor.... her expression says it all a big smile 💓
That series of Beste Zangers, 2019 was absolutely stunning, not only Floor... The Cat in the Hat! Pen in hand... The chat both before and after the songs make it so special. Yes, they did that for each singer, the world discovered new people. Uncle Henk gave a surprise to Floor, the look on her face! (That is not the way he usually sings, the distortion and grit, borrowed from Disturbed, he makes it his own). The sofas were all attentive, Henk keeps going... He's looking directly at Floor and the big smile at the end (That's for you, Floor).

I agree Henk's version just pulls you in, grabs hold and takes you for a ride. Much like a roller coaster it rocks, climbs, swoops down and around, carrying you to heights and dropping into deep emotions only to gently settle to a smooth finish that leaves us wanting more. Absolute respect for Henk, absolutely loved his rendition ‘for Floor’. However, for me this will always be Art Garfunkel. As for lyric, Paul Simon, just nails it. Floor will readily recognise this as a ‘could have been Tuomas (Holopainen)’ number. And Floor’s smile. A goddess so used to adoration aimed AT her being so appreciative of ‘her hero’. What a lady.

that man is SO GREAT here in the Netherlands that is just not normal anymore. as a kind of comparison The Henk Poort is here in the Netherlands which is for example a big music & Film & Tv & musical in America I don't know any names from America that do all this. for those who do NOT know Henk Poort just look at this man's CV on Wikipedia by just typing the name Henk Poort on Google and take a look at what this man has already done and WHAT he has done really big and important things , and yet he remained a perfectly normal man , just like Floor by the way . here in the Netherlands it is NOT socially accepted if an artist walks next to his shoes and thinks he is completely fantastic. here is the norm you do your very best for something , and then you let someone else ( knowledgeable of course ) or colleagues say whether it is good or not , and not the American way of saying yourself that you are the best
If you would want to pronounce ‘zangers’ the Dutch way (although not needed for us): It has the same ‘a’ as ‘Jansen’ does. So, ‘zangers’ rhymes more or less with ‘runners’ and ‘stunners’.
Betraying my age, but I listened to Simon & Garfunkel on the Ed Sullivan show (and the Beatles as well). "Sound of Silence" has always been one of my favourites. The Disturbed version is fantastic and Henk does both versions justice. BTW, you should check out Tommy Johansson. He's a bandmate of Floor's husband and has done some of the instrumentation for Floor's covers during the pandemic. Absolute respect for Henk, absolutely loved his rendition ‘for Floor’. However, for me this will always be Art Garfunkel. As for lyric, Paul Simon, just nails it. Floor will readily recognise this as a ‘could have been Tuomas (Holopainen)’ number. And Floor’s smile. A goddess so used to adoration aimed AT her being so appreciative of ‘her hero’. What a lady.

If you would want to pronounce ‘zangers’ the Dutch way (although not needed for us): It has the same ‘a’ as ‘Jansen’ does. So, ‘zangers’ rhymes more or less with ‘runners’ and ‘stunners’.
Betraying my age, but I listened to Simon & Garfunkel on the Ed Sullivan show (and the Beatles as well). "Sound of Silence" has always been one of my favourites. The Disturbed version is fantastic and Henk does both versions justice.

If you want to start down the Disturbed rabbit hole "Hold onto Memories" is a good next place to stop. "Down With the Sickness" is their first single and is another good song, just be warned it has to do with abuse and the middle break is jarring the first time you hear it.

I too like Tom Macdonald and watch his videos (and other reactors to him). He is an incredible artist with an unrivaled work ethic that must be admired.
