The coin belongs to the so-called period of the Second Republic in the history of Greece - it lasted from 1924 to 1935.
The Second Hellenic Republic was proclaimed on March 25, 1924, following Greece's defeat in the war with Turkey in Asia Minor, which was widely criticized by the royalist government. During its short existence, the Second Republic proved unstable. Greek society has remained divided since the so-called National Schism, a confrontation between pro-republicans, supporters of Eleftherios Venizelos, and monarchists, represented by the People's Party, which refused to recognize the legitimacy of the republic.
The division in society extended to cultural and social issues, such as disagreements over the use of the Greek language (issues of demotics and katarevus) and even architectural styles. Added to this polarization in society was the destabilizing involvement of the military in politics, which resulted in a series of coups and attempted coups. The economy was in ruins after a decade of war and was unable to support the nearly 1.5 million refugees who moved to Greece from Anatolia in the Greek-Turkish population exchange. Despite the efforts of the reformist government of Eleftherios Venizelos in 1928-1932, the Great Depression had catastrophic consequences for the Greek economy. The election victory of the People's Party in 1933 and two failed coups by the Venizelists eventually paved the way for the restoration of King George II.

@Mint_UA 20 драхм 1930 року з нових, а так Афінські сови, які мали значний вплив на весь античний світ, тільки Олександ Македонський змінив перебіг грошового обміну
