Life is so weird, my mom was telling me about my grandma using ponds everyday and her skin was STELLAR ways into her 80s. I wanted to buy it and now this video comes up! lol
I have to say out of all the expensive cold creams I’ve tried in the past (some reaching in the hundreds of dollars) I honestly turned back to Ponds! My grams & mom both have used ponds for years! I adore your channel keep these vintage product videos coming! 💖💖💖
@@Laurajaneatelier hi Laura , Chanel, Natural Bisse, Dr Barbara Sturm & Shiseido : my mom and I went halveies on Shisedio future, honestly we never finished that jar she gave it to her bestie. After each purchase we both went back to our usual routine of Ponds as a cleanser & beauty cream.
@laura Jane atelier oh my mom just reminded me when I sent the link to your channel we both did like fresh lotus night moisturizer and the Caudalie we tried a few thinking we would like them better then Ponds but we were proven wrong, high end doesn’t always mean the best, at least it wasn’t for either of us in this case, I really enjoy your vintage product videos I always learn something interesting. 💖
You don't have to rinse the cold cream off or double cleanse. Just wipe it off and it doubles as your cleanser and moisturizer. Great for dry skin. If you have oily skin, the rinsing with rag method might be best.
Yes but really it’s best to wash off with soap after. Ever derm will tell u so. As it can lead to clogged pores. Even tho it’s stated as non comedogenic it can still clog some people pores dry combo or oily. And if u have dry skin u can use a non foaming gel cleanser like cetaPhil. Hope this helps ❤️ 🙏 X
I don't wear or even own makeup, but I use ponds cold cream followed by cetaphil daily cleanser for a double cleanses every morning and night. I wear sunscreen daily, and it is REALLY is good for removing sunscreen. A lot of people who are into skincare but not makeup don't think they need to double cleanse, but we do! Sunscreen is actually really tough to get off. Also I use ponds as a shaving cream and my legs feel so smooth when I'm done. I also use the ponds dry skin cream as my morning moisturez
I'm 29 and recently discovered the joy that is removing my makeup with Ponds. If they ever stop making it I will cry. It's better for the environment than using wipes, works better at removing stubborn eye makeup, doesn't irritate the eyes and leaves your skin so soft!
Albolene is wonderful for removing eye makeup as well as makeup on the face. I use a warm, wet tissue to take off my eye makeup, and then use a soft, warm washcloth for the face. Splash with cool water and pat dry. Fragrance free, too! Thanks for another fun video. So looking forward to the next one.
As a teen, I would use my babysitting money to buy Ponds, Oil of Olay moisturizer and Pantene shampoo and conditioner. 😆 I’m still devoted to a skincare routine and it has served me well.
I have to say these cold creams that's been around for years works better than cold creams and cleansing balms we have today. And less likely they break me out. It seems that I get clearer skin using the stuff my grandma used. People knew what they was doing back then☺❤
I use the Jergen’s face cream to remove my makeup and LOVE IT! That stuff melts a full face in under a minute. It’s way too thick to be a daytime moisturizer, but it’s GREAT for night time moisture and removing makeup.
Hello! I just wanted to say I really enjoy your videos! All the ones I've seen so far, I've enjoyed! You help me out when I have a depression episode. Thank you! I appreciate you!
I have tried most of them as I am a vintage cold cream fanatic. I'd say the best are Pond's, Albolene, and Noxzema. The best for your skin is Albolene or the fragrance free version of Pond's. Dermatologists do not recommend Noxzema, because it has supposedly irritating ingredients, but my skin loves it.
I started using ponds not too long ago to remove my makeup. I love it. I won't use anything else to remove my makeup. I've gotten some vintage products into my skincare. More affordable and way better
In the UK Boots a famous high street chemist make a good cold cream. Ponds is still the best though. However I tend to use Johnson and Johnson Baby Lotion to remove makeup, these days, as I find cold cream doesn't agree with my skin, as I've got older. Jergens do a very good hand cream, but I haven't seen it recently. I adore Nivea soft and their lip balms and tinned cream, but I've never tried their cold cream.
They have Jergens everywhere! In like the pump bottle? Walmart usually has the huge bottle for like $7!? I LOVE the cherry almond one! Ohhhh! Wait! You’re in the UK?
@@julianaylor4351Boots was bought out by the Americans a while ago. I agree, Boot's traditional moisturiser is the bomb! My face would crack without it!
I use Ponds and Jergens. Mostly Jergens. I use it everyday to remove makeup and sunscreen and a moisturizer. I have really dry skin and it works well for me. I'm happy the formula hasn't changed much 🙂
Thank you Laura for your video. I really enjoy them, especially when it's about vintage clothing, perfume or cosmetics. I have very dry skin. I've tried Ponds back in the day, as well as Noxzema for my breakouts or when I had bad sunburn. But, when you put the Nivea on, the reason why it was so thick, was because it's meant to be a moisturizer your face or body. Not as a "cold cream" to clean your skin the way Ponds does. I've read that you can use it to take off makeup, but you probably don't need so much of it.
I use Ponds cold cream to remove eye makeup and it works really well. I've never tried Jergens. I've been using Noxema cream as far back as I can remember! Works really well to clean your face! I like to use it in the morning, the smell and the cool feel of eucalyptus wakes me up.
Jergens is AMAZING!!! I love how thick and creamy it is, and the light almost powdery fragrance it has. I have extremely acne prone skin, and it has worked wonders for me! I also recently started using Noxema for my second cleanser. It’s only been a few days, but it’s already agreeing quite well with my skin! And the smell brings me back to my 90s childhood, my mom used Noxema every night.
I have used Noxema both for sunburns & for clensing my face. The only thing is, you have to keep it out of your eyes. I also like the Ponds . No need to spend all of that monry on expensive clensers, when you can use these !
Howdy from Texas!! I just came across your video and was intrigued. My grandmother and mother used Merle Norman all their lives, so when it came time for me to start wearing make-up, my mother took me straight to Merle Norman. The lady taught me first and foremost about skincare and then foundation and colors, etc. Now I'm 50+; I don't use Merle Norman anymore. I use Bare Minerals, but I do use the Jergens cold cream to remove my makeup. I find it to be every bit as good as the Merle Norman, but easier to get since I can get it at the grocery store rather than making a special trip to the Merle Norman shop. I tried Pond's more than once, but it did not agree with my skin - very sensitive and prone to bad reactions. We had Noxema around all the time for sunburns when I was growing up. Anyway, this is was very interesting; I really enjoyed watching. Thank you for sharing!
Albolene is perfect even for a double cleanse. It’s a perfect cold cream cleanser for people who have sensitive skin and it’s the only one that is fragrance free. Ponds and Albolene are always part of my makeup removing step as well as Costco’s makeup wipes.
I'm with you Laura! I'm a Ponds girl for sure!! I love the smell too. The smell reminds me of the sixties for some reason. I have very sensitive skin and this cream and fragrance do not bother me at all. I love it! 🥰🥰🥰
Albolene...my favorite. I do have to do a double cleanse with it but removes everything without overstripping. My second cleanse is with my Cerave Facial Wash.
A friends mom used Dorothy Grey cold cream for most of her life. At 70+ years old, her skin was absolutely flawless! I love cold creams and have used Ponds most often.
Hello Laura, Firstly I love your shower! I like how the 'Queen Heleen' whipped cream isn't tested on animals, that's a big thumbs up from me! 👍 I'll have to give that one a go. I love 'Nivea' as a cleanser as it really leaves my skin really soft and clean. Thankyou as always for a trip down memory lane! Your the best! X
Hi Laura jane I've been using noxema since i was 10 years old i did notice that it's good at fading dark spots over long time using it but it does leave my face dry now that I'm older i will be using ponds from now on if you don't mind i will let you know the results for me I've been with noxema for 39 years Thank you Laura jane. Pond's cold cream is the only thing I have ever used that can soften the strongest waterproof mascara without burning my eyes at all. Also, once you wipe it, just a light layer remains, not a big greasy clump on your lashes. I can't recommend it enough.
I just bought Ponds Cold Cream Cleanser and so far I love it. Great texture. I feel like I've really missed out all these years. It leaves my skin feeling great. I have oily skin.
I have a a.m and p.m. care ritual. I use noxema in a.m. i take an expoliaring rubber face sponge and work it in. Wash off then use under eye cream. Ponds anti wrinkle cream and seal it all in with a little vasoline the best moisturizer. P.m. i use an expoliating face face wipe, ponds cold cream make up remover, under eye cream agIn and a little vasoline. Both times only take about 15 minutes. I've used vasoline as a moisturizer since early 20s. People don't believe me when i say I'm 56
I’ve used Ponds cold cream as a face cleanser/makeup remover for years and I’ll never use anything else. I love it so much!!! And I love the fact that ladies in my favorite eras (20s-50s) used it back then!!😍🥰
I have use the Jergens cold cream for years to remove my makeup. I wash my face with Dove pink Rosa soap. Then moisturize with the original oil of Olay.
I've used this cold cream since I was in high school, still using it! I'm over 50 yrs old! I've also used super expensive stuff, and go back every time!
I bought Jergens years ago when I did a few cosplay and Halloween seasons with heavy makeup. I loved the way it smelled! I forgot about for a few years, then tossed it out. I think I have to buy it again...
Great video. I have all but Albolene and I rotate them but, like you, Pond's is my favorite cold cream. Nivea Creme in the blue tin manufactured in Germany (widely available where I live in the BC Interior) is my favourite night/eye/under makeup cream.
My favorite is jergens I love the smell the pink color the texture I use it as a mask night cream make up remover cleanser I love the jar it’s perfect for me
I swear by Noxzema-used it since high school and my skin loves it. I recall using it as a makeup base at times! I also swear by Albolene for makeup removal-not to cleanse skin. I use it to remove makeup (without water), then, I start the skin cleansing process when all of the makeup is removed. With combination oily, acneic prone skin, no way I could just wipe off makeup or use a makeup remover without separately cleansing afterwards. I'm sensitive to some ingredient in Ponds so I have to avoid that brand. TFS
I love all your videos. Watching your videos is a part of my self-care. Thank you for sharing all your fabulous vintage info and stuff. I recently was thinking about how I used to used cold cream incorrectly when I was young. This video is very helpful.
Great video. I used to use Noxzema as a teenager and into my early 20s to remove makeup. Vaseline for eye makeup. I don't know why I stopped since Noxzema did a great job. Right now I use something by Clinique. When I run out I am going to try pond's
Thank you for testing these. I have ponds and noxema. In summer I like noxema cleanser, in winter ponds but latter leaves skin greasy and need a,toner after using it.
*Personally, I am getting ready to try the Vintage Rose Cold Cream from Laura Jane's own Vintage Doll Cosmetics line. It looks like a future favorite for me!*
Ponds is hands down the best. Past couple of years my favorite to remove makeup has been their cleansing balm, but I think they may have taken it off the market because I can no longer find it in stores. Sad because it was awesome!
I am a Merle girl. I worked there for years, and love their skincare. I still use the brilliant c line. As an aesthetician, I would offer facial services at the store, and used the cold cream or the "aqua lube" for the face massage part. Great products
My first high dollar skin care was Merle Norman. I remember the 50s aged lady there had great skins and she told me she “never washed her face with water”, lol. She also told me to take care of my neck and showed me the difference on her where she hadn’t when she was young. I didn’t listen 😂
Watching this again and I got the jergens and I love it! I use it on days where my skin is dry and that is my only cleanse on those days, I don't wear makeup but I use retinol and the jergens helps because of how moisturising it is and the oils in it help stop the flaking.
I love Besame Cosmetics cold cream. It doesn't irritate my sensitive skin, nor does it break me out....bonus...I also love massaging my face with cold cream at the end of the. It's a little bonus massage.
I appreciate you describing the scents and pointing out the mineral oil. I never actually thought of that! So thank you! I always wanted to try Ponds but thought it would prob make my upper lip sweat! LoL! I’m so weird! I LOOOOVVEEEE Noxema!!! When I’m at a drug store and feel nostalgic, I’ll pick up a Noxema! I used to use Phisoderm too, it smelled good-but I can’t find it anymore. I use Cetaphil wash only now. Like a gel. I feel like “I” like my face washed with a soapy kind of feel vs a cream. AND I use the scented too! I love some of the scents! I’m just 50 years though now and DO notice some smells make my nose red. Like if I’m at the beauty parlor? My nose is red! I don’t mind the smells!!! But my body is telling me otherwise.
Rewatching this I’ve just ordered a jergens and queen Helene cleansing cream super excited to try I don’t wear makeup but I always double cleanse due to skin care and sunscreen
My mom has always used Vaseline and I PROMISE everyoneee says she has skin like a baby. She IS 75% British too. I think they’re known for good skin. “I” liked to tan too much in the 90’s and CANNOT STAND thick stuff on my face that makes my upper lip sweat! LoL!! I have that pink Jergens-in the US they have it in Walmart and it’s like $6.00! I bought some too cause I liked the package and smell and it makes my lip sweat! Haha! IS THAT WEIRD!? Wonder if other people feel this way? I hope switching these all week doesn’t make you break out!
I just bought a cold cream under the name "Fresho" for $2.50 at the dollar store. I tried wiping it off on separate occasions with a cotton make up pad, a dry cotton ball, and a kleenex. I think that scratched my face, so next time I'll try a wet cloth. Face felt kinda oily after, cleaned it up by either washing my usual way after, or using toner. I need to make sure the formula itself isn't stinging my face. It's certainly different from using soap, foaming cleanser, or liquid make up remover. Need to figure out how best to use it. Would like to also try Pond's.
Haha that Nivea! Laura, I thoroughly enjoyed this excellent video! I have always wanted to try Ponds after trying some of the new cleansing balms made me wonder about it. Now I will go get some. I am 60 and remember having Noxema as a teen, but I didn't use it all the time because it made my face so shiny and was super cold on the skin. I did love the texture when sinking my fingers in it. Your vintage jar looks really old, like 40s even. Was it made then? Mine in the 70s was blue glass with a metal lid but the graphics were much different where as yours looks almost deco. Loved this!
My mother used Ponds and later on Vanicream to clean her face and for her body she used Nivea which I have used all my adult life. I am 70. Vanicream came out in 1975.
Thank You for your great videos & channel! I have dry-combo skin & I have also used & liked Cetaphil Cleansing Cream in a large jar, Nutraderm Moisturizer, & Cere Ve also offers nice unscented products for sensitive skin as well.
I use the ponds everyday to remove my makeup. I hsve used the jergens one and i like it, but it burns my eyes and the pond's doesn't. I want to try the albolene one now!
I feel the same way about Jergens face cream. It works really good as a moisturizer and cleanser, but it burns my eyes as well. I'll be trying the Ponds cold cream next.
Wonderful video! I love Ponds and now I’m curious to try Queen Helene. Do you ever use the cold cream as a moisturizer? What do you think of the Ponds moisturizer? Is there really a difference?
I love the ponds moisturizer. I use it twice a day at least. I only use the cold cream to remove makeup. For me, the cold cream is more oily and adheres to the skin instead of soaking in so I might try masking with it, but I'm not sure I'd use it as a face moisturizer.
The Dry Skin Cream by Pond's is a classic, and moisturizes better than any facial cream I have ever used. My one complaint is the fragrance. It smells great, but it's not a good idea to leave fragranced moisturizers on your face.
I use Ponds or Albolene as part of my double cleanse. I have very oily sensitive skin and haven’t had any allergic reactions the way I have with some other makeup removers.
I'm using Cetifyl & coconut oil right now & they seem to work pretty well. I am wanting to find something a little more moisturizing. I may just try 1 of these ! Thank you !
LoL! ANOTHERRR comment! Look at those cute Nivea ads! I swear I had a dream about my Hello Kitty Nivea I got at the local German deli one time! I used my Nivea the other day and thought of you!! Andddd…I got a DOVE Beauty Cream the other day and LOVE the smell! It comes in a flat round package like Nivea cream does. It seems like it’s new? I got it at Safeway, a local grocery store! I DO see Mineral Oil in the ingredients, but it’s not the first. I have just used it for body cream.
Maybe try the Nivea Soft Cream in the white tub as the cold cream. That's what I'm doing at the moment as I have run out if the nivea cleansing lotion. The nivea blue tub cream after the cleansing lotion is very good. Makes the blue tub cream easier to work with ❤❤❤💋💋💋💋
I have very sensitive skin and also am generally sensitive to fragrance , but Ponds for some reason is perfectly fine for me, I don’t find the scent too strong, nor does it irritate my skin. The only thing is I wish it was CF 😩 🐰
I like the scent of Noxema but it isn’t best for my dry skin. I haven’t used Ponds in ages. I will have to give it a go again. I bought Albilene to remove my makeup but I prefer my diy version with coconut oil. I do, however, use it as a base or mix it with my undereye concealer. Sometimes I top my makeup with it. Yes, please make a video on using the creams as a base layer, ie vanishing cream. Thank you!

I love these videos so much!! I’ve been recently collecting vintage beauty books.
And I love the fact that ladies in my favorite eras (20s-50s) used it back then!!😍🥰
My maternal grandmother only ever used cold cream on her face & she had beautiful skin!!
My grandma and mom used Lady Esther. You can still get it on Amazon and she picks it up there.
I have use the Jergens cold cream for years to remove my makeup. I wash my face with Dove pink Rosa soap. Then moisturize with the original oil of Olay.
I love Ponds. I did try Jergen’s, and didn’t care for it because it left my skin very dry.
Ya I like ponds better
Jergens and Albolene are my faves.
I've used this cold cream since I was in high school, still using it! I'm over 50 yrs old! I've also used super expensive stuff, and go back every time!
Me 2 ! Pond’s
I bought Jergens years ago when I did a few cosplay and Halloween seasons with heavy makeup. I loved the way it smelled! I forgot about for a few years, then tossed it out. I think I have to buy it again...
Albolene is my favorite! Works great on my sensitive skin.
Great video. I have all but Albolene and I rotate them but, like you, Pond's is my favorite cold cream. Nivea Creme in the blue tin manufactured in Germany (widely available where I live in the BC Interior) is my favourite night/eye/under makeup cream.
Lush has a great more natural version called ultrabland and even a moisturizer called vanishing cream!
Oh interesting thanks for letting me know
My favorite is jergens I love the smell the pink color the texture I use it as a mask night cream make up remover cleanser I love the jar it’s perfect for me
I have really dry skin around the eyes and I use Abilene's . Because it is so thick I use a cloth to clean off the first layer and do 2 rinses
Hi Laura Jane,. You have the most beautiful skin. Take care and Merry Halloween!
O movimento da toalha é sempre para cima e com gentileza... Gosto muito do seu canal.
As a retro version I use Ponds ❤️, newer version I like Clinique cleansing balm 👍
I need to try the Clinique one
I like Clinique too and glycerin soap is nice too. Pears or generic
Clinique does have a very good exfoilent: 7 day scrub creme - just don't get it near the eyes and you need water to remove it.
Ponds is my favorite, but Noxema for sunburn is 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼.
I still need to try it for sunburns
I learned that if you add a pump of vanicream cleanser to the amount of albolene you use, it will emulsify and rinse off very easily.
I use noxema to shave my legs. It feels wonderful
Noxema is great for mask sores. Very soothing.
Ponds is hands down the best. Past couple of years my favorite to remove makeup has been their cleansing balm, but I think they may have taken it off the market because I can no longer find it in stores. Sad because it was awesome!
I swear by Pond's it's the best I'm not that old but I feel in love with Pond's so morturisng.
I use ponds😊
Watching this again and I got the jergens and I love it! I use it on days where my skin is dry and that is my only cleanse on those days, I don't wear makeup but I use retinol and the jergens helps because of how moisturising it is and the oils in it help stop the flaking.
I use Ponds but have to get with Amazon not in any shops where I live in the UK xx
My favorite channel ❤
My mom & grandma swore by Pond’s Cold Cream and I do as well especially to remove makeup.
We have Niveasoft in Britain, it's in a white tub & is better for my greasy skin than the original x
Vanicream is so gentle and non-irritating. I have several of their products.
I found pond and I will use it thank you so much
Thank You for your great videos & channel!
Sadly, all these products, except Albolene, have changed their ingredients. WHY companies do this is maddening. ☹☹
Love ponds cream I use the cucumber one- great makeup remover. Doesn't mess with my finicky skin.
Wow! love your channel ❤️
Thanks so much
I remember my mom using a cold cream that had a very distinctive scent. I wish I could remember what it was. I used to like the smell.
Thank you !
I still use Merle Norman Cleansing Cream. My skin always feels moisturized and people comment on the glow I have all the time.
Makes the blue tub cream easier to work with ❤❤❤💋💋💋💋
Too much rubbish in the Nivea Soft.
I have very sensitive skin and also am generally sensitive to fragrance , but Ponds for some reason is perfectly fine for me, I don’t find the scent too strong, nor does it irritate my skin. The only thing is I wish it was CF 😩 🐰
I have been using ponds for years
I like the scent of Noxema but it isn’t best for my dry skin.
Thank you!
I will have to try coconut oil
Coconut oil is great for removing stubborn eye makeup
