    Performed that right after getting mine. Been doing the grease the starter thing today. I have a slip on muffler on the way and figured while the exhaust was apart it was a good time for that. New tires arrived today, so there is another project waiting. Be a good time to grease the swing arm and suspension points. Just in time for the riding season to begin here in the USA.
    Thanks for all of the quality content and entertaining videos! Keep up the good job Mark!

    Well done Mark, I did mine too because I found it to be faulty, probably due to a previous fall. It caused me to run wide one day whilst looking down thinking the side stand was the issue and the engine was cutting out at times. No issue since then.

      All them safety switches are to keep stupid people from suing the people that built the motorcycle.

    Nice one Mark! I had a similar situation on my 1200 where the side stand switch got smashed by a stone or rock leaving an open circuit on the side stand switch which simply just shut the whole bike down!

    Good advice Mark.
    The safety recommendations are critical, as you said, in a Parking lot...You don't want your bike to become a missile.

    Thanks dude.
    My bike was having intermittent starting problems just in a cold start situation... Of course never happened for the dealer as always warm.. anyway have done this by-pass this morn😢and guess what? Started right up as it did when new.. So not sure why it would work at all since if choked and throttling would eventually start... anyway done the switch and bike now starting right away with no drama. Bloody Lovely!!!

    Lol, when I bought my DR used it had the clutch and side stand by passed by the previous owner and I had to reverse it to get the bike through the government safety inspection. Interesting my last jeep wrangled (a jeep tj) had a fuse on the fuse panel labeled " clutch defeat" and if you pulled the fuse out it would bypass the safety switch so you could start the jeep in gear when off road. This was usefully if you stalled the jeep on a hill, I can see the usefullnes of this mod as long as you remember it is bypassed. Great video, thank you

    Heeello! Question/opinion: how likely is it that the bike won't turn on because of clutch problems if the bike is a 2016 with only 6.000 km?
    Just bought a bike, rode it home np.. day after would not start. All switches etc are fine, but turning key on "on" it doesn't even make a noise... wondering the likelihood of the clutch being the problem.
    Thanks!

      There are times when you need to quickly restart the bike while in gear, so just pull in clutch, start bike and continue up the narly hill 👍

  • @livewire..
    @livewire.. 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The switch is a $30.00 part. Why not replace it and stay safe? Even if the bike is in neutral starting the bike with the clutch out is harder on the starter and the battery as the starter motor must not only rotate the engine but the transmission components as well. I think it is good to know how to bypass this switch in an emergency situation (the same applies to the NSU and the KSS) but these should only be employed as a temporary measure until the bike can be fixed properly. Just saying ...

    I hate all that safety stuff. I bought a .22 semiautomatic pistol that had so many safety switches on it that I removed half of them and I still hated the gun. What a waste of money. I want the gun to shoot when I want it to shoot. Why would I want to fumble around with a bunch of safety switches. Same thing for the DR650. I want to ride the bike and the engine needs to be running fir me to be able to ride the bike. I absolutely do not need one safety switch.
