😂 Silly me. At 0:57 I thought "shot pieces? What are shot pieces?". I then quickly realized it wasn't "shot pieces", but "shawt pieces". Okay, got it! Short pieces.
Love ya Tom!! Thanks buddy, for the decades of your shared knowledge!

question: would a metal flashing be ok to put on the bottom plank? I was wondering if that would protect it from rotting sooner than later.

Hi TOH, that's better siding than this vinyl siding they have today !!! 👍😀🛠

Maybe if you like spending thousands to have your house painted every 10 years. The only maintenance you need to do with vinyl is hose it off with some bleach if it collects green stuff. Quality vinyl will last 25 years easy.

@@bnasty267, Agree 100% My Uncles house, built in 1986 still has it's original vinyl siding on it and looks almost new. Vinyl is as close to final as you're gonna get, except for the steel siding they have nowadays, supposed to last 50yrs or more.

I have a question. I am replacing some siding on an old home. There is no siding the correct thickness., I am thinking I could use something to shim it out. I need something about .06 to .19" thick depending on which siding I choose to buy. What is a good product I could use? Thank you for you great vides.

I need to replace some siding pieces, my house has LP Smartside 38 series 3/8” x 12” x 16’; I can’t seem to find it anywhere. Would the 7/16” thickness work beside my already installed 3/8” pieces? Or do you have a recommendation on another product that would work in its place?

The Roofing and Siding contractor (who is his own LLC business) who lives a few houses from me has it all figured out...if you need new siding, you just rip off the siding and leave your Tyvek or Foamboard exposed to the elements. We're on year 3 or 4 now on his own home.

maybe they are going to spray foam insulation to seal it up.

Kyle Fowler i don’t care about insulation i care about the shear forces acting on that wall

I imagine it’s a restoration in a historic district and they are forbidden from adding sheathing to the exterior. There might be some type of shiplap or 1x sheathing on the interior walls that has yet to be reinstalled.

down here in southeast Texas it was common back then to nail siding directly to the studs. No house wrap or anything. On my 70 year old house they at least wrapped it in tar/felt paper then nailed the siding to the studs.

@@nholt yup that's exactly how my 1954 house was built, original wood siding is still under the vinyl siding. Planning to restore it soon.

Or the one where he learns to say tree instead of the lazy "chree." Or street instead of "shhtreet". I could go on. Although my momma told me
not to make fun of those with speech impediments. All joking aside it's truly not humorous,I have friends who needed special instruction.
