"The Sad Spirit" is like a quitessence of my childhood memories about 80s action movies, dusty detective books from the 90s, the heavy smell of perfume of that time, icy street lamps and old apartments, red sunsets and orange air, all this was fascinating and remains only in memory until the music touches these pictures
It's 2800 of the Third Age. A steady, chill rain pours on the eaves of your tower. You've brought no less than forty tomes of lore to your study, most of which are the only remaining copies. Too much to do, it feels like. Your mind is a machine of wheels within wheels, and lately seems to never quiet. But your quill is freshly plucked, your inkwell nearly bottomless. You don't know it, but this is the best it'll ever be.
You saturate your quill in the obsidian ink, cradled by a crystal inkwell whose fractals are dancing from the candlelight emanating onto it. As you place the marking to parchment, the rich and industrial smell of the ink fills your nostrils and you're immediately taken back to a time that seems like an all too distant dream. Inklings, both in the literal and figurative sense, are overtaking your senses.
Elric, Corum, Heavy Metal Magazine, Diablo 1 and 2, Warcraft 2, Morrowind, Planescape Torment, Old School MTG, Warhammer and DND, 80s Dark fantasy movies, Berserk and Dark Souls. This compilation fulfills the Otherworldly and Serious vibe that I miss from todays watered down Fantasy Genre, These tracks are Haunting and Heroic and give me hope for the return of Adult Fantasy
Agreed. It's fascinating to me how that track in particular has impacted so many people. It's as if it's representative of what so many of us have been going through lately. Whoever Ghoëst is, I'm seriously grateful for their amazing talent.
@@_Jay_Maker_I think for me at least, there are certain chords in it that are just totally satisfying and done correctly, like the faint chorals in the middle, as well as a few of the synth notes later on. It’s greater than the sum of its parts imo, and has a “grandness” to it. A lot of dungeon that’s come out recently has just been okay to me, but Spectral Silence really is a top tier track. It just feels right.
It's the deep bass chords and layered melodies used from 22:20 onwards. The song is structured towards a climax, which is rare in a genre that tends to use more static forms of composition.
Truly one of the best compilations in the genre. I play this in the background of my 1e Campaign weekly. Such haunting atmosphere of melancholy, allure, intrigue and darkness.
That was the best dungeon synth mix I've ever had the pleasure of listening to for nearly 4 hours. The tone was consistent throughout, and I do not recall hearing any jarring sound effects such as birds cawing or people whispering. It was dark enough to seep into my ADHD brain like a thick autumn fog, but never so heavy as to overstay its welcome. Every track shares the same haunting yet hopeful theme I find so comforting in this genre. Thank you.
I'm lesson planning in my classroom on a dreary, cloudy afternoon listening to this. I'm getting such Lucio Fulci vibes, that I'm half expecting to look out my window and see a crowd of zombies shambling across the soccer field. Cool.
All of it is so great. Ghoest really made a significant impact to the already great dungeon synth genre. His doomy and minimalistic style is truly something unique and highly immersive.
The conclusion melody at the final part of A spectral silence is just a piece of heaven. The composer reveals how beautiful and deep his inner universe really is.
Perhaps no other DS artist has harnessed such beautiful sorrow, such epic melodic gloom. The original cover artworks on Bandcamp are also super cool and meditative.
1:32:20 I always imagine someone with long black hair emerging from a dark steamy water in slow motion, flips the hair backwards, the image stops and the iridescent drops make this sound
thank you, Ghoזst. great albums. love the unitiy in tone, i can listen to this without distractions and jump scares for my concectration. instead of university library, iam in Serene Sorrow
Love how this artist translates his signature style from the highly-atmospheric compositions of Werendia into the more synth-oriented pieces of Ghoest and Winter Sphere. This dreamy, drifting style never wears out its welcome in my book. Ancient Meadow still has tapes available, for those interested. Need I mention that the physical editions turned out amazing?
The darkest, most sombre DS I've ever heard. I love playing this for hours when I'm alone and need to reflect. When I listen to this while I'm asleep I feel as if could sleep and never wake back up. Definitely gonna demand this at my funeral. I love this so much.
I’m so utterly impressed with this compilation. It’s moody, atmospheric, dreary, and ethereal. It’s everything I love. I jam this when playing video games. It’s an incredible, fulfilling soundtrack to obliterating enemies and trekking through vast wastelands, and psychedelic nightmares.
Thank you greatly.... this is such a pleasant piece of music to the soul. It has made my day so I could only thank you very much for this. I will check your other work. big thumbs up
I let this video autoplay, fully expecting to change it. Forty seconds in and I'm already impressed. Let's see what the next three and a half hours can bring...
i've listened to this mix over a thousand times now. it's insanely good. keeps my mind in-tact, my memories and thoughts afloat. that entry song is just so fucking good...
Wow! What a discovery! I love the cassettes since i was a teenager, so i clicked on the atractive cover of one of those cherished relics from my youth and the music is fantastic. I suposse that we are listening to more than one tape, because i never knew of one that could last three hours or more. Anyway, thanks a lot for sharing this ethereal, subtly dark, and evocative beauty. I had no idea of the existence of this musical genre.
I don’t think I could’ve come across a better playlist this Halloween season if I tried. I love discovering new sub-genres of different music and being completely blown away by what I find.
Like no other, this is as good as it gets in this subgenre. This sound has fuelled months now of study of mine, and become the soundtrack to my "wizard in his tower" times 😁
I was watching a video about one topic, then went to another random video, but didnt like it, so i went to my watch history to go back to the first video i was watching and look at their channel for more. This video was mysteriously in my watch history in between the two videos i just watched back to back. I have no idea how this just happened, its nothing ive ever clicked on, and not related to anything i was watching.
@@sandert8287 oddly enough i did really enjoy it, but i dont know when to listen to it. I generally like more aggressive stuff like djent so this gives me a enjoyable but odd feeling - im still a bit weirded out by how it ended up in my history mysteriously

I'll give it a listen based upon your exceptional tastes.
DUNGEON ⚔️ CRAWLER 🗡️
Try playing Kenshi
It is not fantasy in the most strict sense but check it out. I think you may enjoy it
I like these things
Right? I have no interest in trying Baldurs Gate 3 because it reeks of millenial marvel style fantasy. I want grounded, gritty, dark fantasy.
A Spectral Silence is one of the best dungeon pieces I’ve ever listened to. Everything about it is perfect.

Adding some ambient rain & thunderstorm into the background at low volume... *chef's kiss*

"A Spectral Silence" is absolutely beautiful.

My only regret is that I can't stay awake for 24 hours to hear this played through 8 times a day. But I will try.
You actually can. I know a guy with a magic potion you can either smoke or inject.

I keep coming back to this one specifically.
A Spectral Silence. The ending is nothing short of majestic.
GOD SPEAKS AND WALKS
couldn't tell you how many times I've listened to this, it's just phenomenal.
The conclusion melody at the final part of A spectral silence is just a piece of heaven. The composer reveals how beautiful and deep his inner universe really is.
Grandiose work! Compliments from a veteran of the 90s.
melancholy that doesn't sink the darkness in too deep. very great album
I think the proper portmanteau word would be "mellowncholy"

It's been raining where I live and it's still a little humid. Listening to this while painting and the windows open is sooo relaxing.
It’s difficult to choose a favorite of all his projects, but this one has to be it. Dark Dungeon Doom Forever!
once again, guiding me through the madness
I always feel really depressed but also really relaxed whenever i put this on.
it's the best feeling
i was looking for dungeon synth with a distinct fuzzy sound just like this and i’m so glad i found some
The best in dark dungeon doom. A perfect 3-hour compilation.
Magnificent. This is my main playlist while writing my dark fantasy novel.
I am currently reading Dracula this is a perfect soundtrack to go along with it!
This whole thing is amazing for coding. Probably on my fifth full listen now
Gonna need this in Apple Music
Great great music for people with ADHD! helps focusing and also is very pleasent to listen. Thank you!

This music is magic
This stuff is amazing. very good contribution from the channel.
Great for reading graphic novels. Indeed ✨
I'm not sure dungeon synth is the best way to describe this. But it's great.
New listeners now👁🏆👁
Greatest playlist of DG synth i've ever heard, playing warcraft III, scourge campaign, with this make it 100% more immersive

I hope to see more musical works like this. These melodies are like guides for thoughts.
i love traveling through the distortion of time with you
You managed to write the same song 18 times and they're all AMAZING. What's your soundfont? Sounds like some sort of FM Synth?
this is exactlyyy what i needed. also would love if ghoëst released sum merch i love the logo so much
