    I absolutely love your process Curtis. Streamlined, simple, yet not overcomplicated. We seriously need to get together sometime. If you are ever in or around the area let me know and I will get you out this way at all costs.

      Yes, that'd be awesome. Where are you located again? I couldn't find it on your website. Feel free to email me any time.

    Organization is the key. Right on! Also a tip if the tape is sticking to the totes is to fold over the end of the tape to make a tab. Makes it very easy for you or the next person to rip off and have no residual tape left on, or mislabeled due to tape left on previously.

    Nice process. Also, if your 24/7 cooler breaks down, you have a backup while you fixed the other. ;)

    Love the channel. Thank you for taking your time to explain how your operation works. I found it fairly fascinating. I have become inspired to garden once I get my property.

    Have you considered using a dry erase marker?

    I'm constantly impressed by your skills in what I know to be "process engineering". Managing how work flows thru a system. Have you ever had formal training in the discipline of TQM, or Demming PDCA cycles and the like. BTW I spent the afternoon at Brooklyn Grange today. Annoyed the staff and volunteers with WAY too many questions but came away very impressed.

    Redundancy is always a good idea. Plus by having a raw and finished cooler you won't get cross contamination from the raw unwashed product. You don't want bugs in the finished product for your customer to find.

    some years ago, I discovered a little trick to rototilling; to avoid walking on my knuckles at the end of the day. Don't turn the machine! One hand, finger tip control, rototilling. You run it forward to the end of the bed, then you till in reverse, walking beside the machine, (if you can till in reverse on your machine), or just walk it back. This is for small plots.... I do like your climate battery.

    Another good video. Do these walk-in coolers need any special treatment going into winter? I've watched your setup with the A/C unit and the cool bot, does the A/C unit need to be removed and stored indoors during winter to avoid damage? What about the walk-in cooler itself?
    Also last year you were harvesting greens in winter, if you plan on doing that again, how do you plan on having your washing/drying/walk-in cooler handling it during winter time?
    Thanks! I also love that you have changed your upload time to earlier in the evening, it makes it easier for us to catch it in the evening here on the East Coast. Before it would show up 11pm-midnight.

    In cool bot's specs they have an option for how many times you open your door per hour, is that a huge factor to consider ? Did you use their specs relating to that area ?

    you talked about salanova lettuce that you typically don't Harvest on a Saturday.... my question is do you ever overharvest and if so do you ever throw product out because it gets too old or isn't fresh enough for delivery or would you discount it out as "day-old" so to speak

    Would it be OK if I were to come by your house every day for 1 week (except Sunday) and help you with your stuff?

    about your Earthway planter, I stick a couple of 1 inch aluminum in front of the back wheel long enough to sit on the frame bars and use a cheap 'C' clamp to hold it in position about a 32 nd. from the surface of the wheel.

    • @HLHaidysh
      @HLHaidysh 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      For many years Curtis was a musician, so don't be surprised if it's something he composed.

    • @dawsonmehalko711

    Hi Curtis, Just curious what size your walk-in coolers are?

  • @highlightsbottleflipnbanfl1847
    @highlightsbottleflipnbanfl1847 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    potential income stream, yam leaves. yes not only the tubers, but the leaves are edible. potential value added crop.

      it's not too late to start some, tastes like spinach, plus they are a delicacy in Asian cuisine. spray them with copper to prevent fungi.

      It does stray from the norm, and may not work well for everyone.

    Why don't you use RPCs?

    • @christophersmith8014
      @christophersmith8014 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The rubbermaid totes are RPCs (as in Reusable Plastic Containers). The type of crate you typically think of with the term RPC is completely slotted and isn't suitable for storing greens. The refrigeration would dehydrate the greens ruining their crispness, and they would be unable to recrisp in a water bath. Greens store best with the surface of their leaves dry and in an air tight container, but Curtis does have some small holes drilled around the handles of his bins to promote some minor airflow. He does use macrototes for harvesting his root vegatables though.

    This is overkill, you can store much of what you grow in a root cellar for an entire year! No electricity and no fuss. You gotta rethink this bro, our farm uses a small cooler, and only one, to accomplish the same outcome. We use a cheap AC and plywood to accomplish your "pre-wash" cycle.
    Glad to see vids with baby, power through! Lots of respect!!
