I used the Viltrox NF-M1 since Tokina sent me the Nikon F mount version. That being said, (1) it's an autofocus adapter and so it's somewhat expensive and (2) I would not recommend this adapter. It's buggy for AF lenses and Viltrox customer support was unresponsive...so unless you need auto aperture, you're better off with a manual focus adapter.
Hard to say because I never used the Samyang. My guess is the Tamron 350mmF/5.6 would beat them both and the 500mm f/8 will certainly will. I checked out some reviews of it though and I can say that I'm not very impressed by newer mirror lenses. Better to go to the Tamron adaptall series.
The fact that the Tamron 500mm BB beats the pants off the Tokina says that Tokina have not made any real effort in the design .... any half decent normal 300mm lens cropped a little will knock spots off this 400mm mirror lenses for sure!
That is correct. This Tokina is more of a "fun/see what mirror bokeh looks like" lens rather than a serious contender in the 400mm category. In fact, between this Tokina and the Nikon 70-300mm AF-P DX lens, I would choose the latter cropped.
@larsltj ... Interesting. Normally, I wouldn't say that a lens sharpness is a huge barrier, but this Tokina is a bit of an exception. While it does work well at a certain distance (the Rock Dove photo is one of my best photos of a Rock Dove), in 90% of cases the lack of detail will completely ruin a photo.

Hey great review, you mentioned putting the link to a more extensive written review in the comments, is that one out yet
Thanks so much! It's coming soon!
Have used Topaz Sharpen AI with Bird images from my Tokina 400mm with great success .
I'm glad you're getting the results you like!
Which would you choose between this one and the Samyang reflex 300mm? thank you

To be honest, it doesn't look very good😅
Yes, the Tamron 55bb is much better.
@@JasonPolakPhotography Yes, the Tamron is a known performer. Even my MTO 3M-5CA seems better.
