Great video! I remember the Red-tailed Black Cockatoos would feast on nuts in Kings Park, Perth as the Carnaby's wheeled overhead. Only side by side does one realise the size of the Zanda Cockatoos. Although majestic, the two species' proximity to each other was almost certainly due to deforestation. Thanks for sharing.
thank you for your wonderful videos, its a minor point and I may be wrong but calling the aerial galls or fruits (gum nuts) lignotubers I think is not correct. to quote wikipedia "A lignotuber is a woody swelling of the root crown possessed by some plants as a protection against destruction of the plant stem, such as by fire, the snow gum is a classic species that can use its underground lignotuber to survive after all aerial parts are burnt to the ground, its like a giant carrot. Plenty of species of Eucalypt have lignotubers presumably to survive fires, those capsules on the coolibahs look more like insect galls to me but I may be wrong and only discuss this for I recognise your dedication to providing such accurate and wonderful information.
So they are from WA, are they? cos I live in Sydney and bought him from a breeder here there is not much about Kuhli Galahs on TH-cam.......@@plumesofoz
I have never seen this much footage and info on this cockatoo, or any other than the various white ones! Love it and have been waiting forever! It may be common knowledge where they are from but in North America, or my part anyway, it is not. The only Gala I saw when I was looking for one was obviously captured and smuggled. Needless to say I didn't buy it and support that trade although that's most likely how all non native captive species started out here all those years ago. I wonder how these cockatoos and all the others I don't readily see manage to escape the smugglers. I don't believe in breeding them for pets anymore and I don't believe they should ever be taken from their natural environment unless it is necessary to keep them from extinction. There are so many birds of all types that are being passed around and mistreated. I don't believe in breeding pets in any animal anymore and even breeding cats and dogs should be reigned in rather than the free for all it is now.

I planted 50 river oaks about 12 years ago. and last year I had 20 of them feeding on the seed nuts
