    This is why I haven't lowered mine because I don't want to have to worry about being able to drive it without damaging things. I think it looked fine as it was honestly. Good stuff though man keep it up, I enjoy your content.

    I've played with lowering my C6, which pretty much has the same suspension as the C5. Stock bolts only did about 1/2". Went with after-market bolts, $99.00 ones and I chewed the rear bolts up in less than 200 miles. I then bought $289.00 bolts. Problem solved. The old maxim of "you get what you pay for" applied here. I had to raise the front back up though because of the ZR1 OEM CF front splitter I have and just the 1/2" lower, on factory bolts, was too low. FWIW, if you should decide to press the 1" lower mark on the rear, I think it best you also get an alignment. Another alternative, but it's expensive, is to go with coil-overs with an extra dividend. You can set the ride-height for looks AND you can set the firmness for add'l. handling. Ultimately, it's whatever your purse can handle.

      Chris I had a lot of Lowrider friends with real fast cars, they had a big scrape plate, put one on and you can lower it as much as you, want, stay safe.

      Borja Müller I’ve cut my bushings on mine to get it lower. I live in Alabama. Have a 2000ft gravel driveway. Know your roads. Take care of your driveway. Looks great. If you get a taller wheel. And tire set up. That offsets the ground clearance *some*. But I love my c5. Now. I haven’t lowered my c7. Lol

    Measure from bottom center of center cap or wheel up to eliminate inaccurate measurements due to varying tire pressures & corner weights.

    Nice instructional video Chris. I've been thinking of lowering my C5 1 inch all around however where I take my car for maintenance says they barely have enough clearance as it is to get onto their lifts. If I lower it the shop owner tells me he'll have to have a couple mechanics lift the car by hand to get it onto the lifts. Or, take my Vette to another shop. problem with that is I haven't any place else that I trust to do any work on my car. This is my 3rd Vette and all the work on all 3 are from the same shop. Guess I'll leave the ride height as is. BTW, you do have a very nice C5.

What did they have to change get yours sitting how it was before you lowered again?Any info will help me. I was thinking about taking it to a shop to get it back to stock, or do coil overs. I need to save money. Possibly thinking about doing it myself?

    If you want to go lower on stock bolts you can take the bushings on the bolts out and cut them down. They're made like stacked oreos so you can just cut it down to 1 disk with connecting rubber and throw them back on. Make sure you leave some rubber though or you'll get some metal on metal grinding.

  • @numbzinger350
    @numbzinger350 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Unless your car is twisted, that difference of 1/8" on the left front would be due to floor irregularities. If the left front is lowered an extra 1/8" over the planned 1" for all corners then the right rear will effectively be lowered less than the desired 1". Consider finding someone with a set of scales to check the four corner weights then fine tune to balance the car to perfection. That extra 1/8" should have should have thrown a flag that something wasn't right. Nice video. You provided lots of good information.

    • @Bones43x
      @Bones43x 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Or you just chalk the 1/8" difference up as typical GM. If you've ever had trucks, you've heard of the "Chevy lean." Their other vehicles have similar issues and inconsistencies.

    Too bad GM designed the bodywork with so much fender gap. I find that it's not that I want my C5 actually lower, but that I want to reduce the fender gap. Great video thumbs up!

    • @charon9205

      The answer to that is in tire selection. You can actually get less gap and more clearance with the correct wheel and tire combo.

    I've been watching C5 lowering videos all day. I can't believe GM actually designed something so easy to work on. Here's possibly a dumb question... What keeps the nuts from vibrating loose? They don't look like nylock (although I don't know that I'd trust just a nylock either)... It just seems like there should be a lock nut on each bolt (front and rear) to keep them from vibrating loose. I know this isn't an issue (obviously) but WHY isn't it?
