    WOW! I came to your channel through Larry's video, and I gotta say, I'm impressed. First of all, because of the quality of the video, your quality is at the TOP, not only for the quality of the image and the audio, but also for the interview, you had some amazing questions regarding the UI, I'm new to the FFxiv scenario and didn't know a lot about the work behind the interface, and you made a great job in adding some context and explaining a lot of stuff a that i wouldn't be able to undestand otherwise. Congratulations on the video, keep up the good work, you just won another subscriber. ;)(Sorry if my english is a bit messy)

    Man.....I'm a software developer and it didn't even cross my mind that I would have liked these types of questions. Thanks a lot. This was a good insight into their design/development mentality.

    Leave it to YoshiP to take a one sentence question, and turn the answer into an essay.

    Just earned a subscriber. Having a unique angle and approach with questions earns me a view, as I do enjoy each different flavor of content creators come up with and you definitely found your niche here. I fully agree that a sympathetic view of giving feedback will be more effective, helpful, and healthy for a community to begin with. However, we do have to point out the counterpoint is that this sort of system only works when both parties approach the conversation in good faith and trust - something that so few companies have maintained on their end these days, and that few communities feel the desire to keep up on their end. FFXIV is very unique in this regard because FFXIV's return with A Realm Reborn began from a point of humility - it was being grown out of a the failure that FFXIV 1.xx series was. Many companies have lost that humble viewpoint and it is rare and precious that Yoshida maintains his - something I will always honor as a oasis in a growing desert of exploitative practices and blatant greed.
    I do believe that the starting point lies with the developers and publishers to set the stage in an honest and transparent fashion. And FFXIV's team does just that. That's why they have such respect, and it is in those instances in which I agree with your perspective. I do hope that other companies recognize and begin to become more transparent with time, but I feel tasting the sting of failure and having the opportunity to recover may be a necessary step for many of them - an opportunity few of them still will get.

      I feel like due to the failure that 1.x was that Yoshi-P and the dev team of ARR and beyond understood that they are coming from the perspective that it was a failure and if they wanted any chance at making FFXIV a success they had to be completely transparent to allow the player base to make accurate decisions with the proper information. Going beyond that though when they gained the respect of the player base again instead of reverting to the normal corporate attitude, they continued with the transparency which has only seen FFXIV continue to grow since it was revived with ARR. It makes me proud to be a part of this player base and to support a company that will give us that kind of transparency and explain the decisions that they are making instead of just having us accept whatever they decide.

    As a console player, I find the XHB and WXHB to be some of the most important contributions made to gaming in this generation. Their design is absolutely brilliant for RPGs and I'm surprised more games have not taken advantage of the precedent XIV has set with their usage.

    I used to play a hybrid style with controller as the primary, but as soon as the added the W-XHB my keyboard became strictly for chat.
    Now my old hot bars are used to hold oversized icons for visual reminders of OGCD timers.

    Great work on video Avalonstar, big thumbs up from me. Being a controler user myself, your interview with Yoshi shed some light on questions I had been wanting answered and I'm really happy about that. I would also love to get your opinion on the matter of ffxiv and its consolidation of abilities. Do you think pve content would benefit from a one button combo playstyle like in pvp?

    • @avalonstar
      @avalonstar  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the kind words! Great question as well. If I'm honest with myself, when I saw the PVP one-button combo system I had a feeling it would eventually bleed into PVE. I don't want to immediately see this as a bad thing, since like you heard in the interview, they have an average number of buttons in mind, per class. SAM and NIN are great examples of how they're getting around this with their modified ninjitsu, etc.
      In 6.0 or 7.0 we're going to get to a point where they'll need extra space. So do they keep pruning actions from the middle? Or, do they gain 2 hotbar spots by making your 3 button combo a single button? So eventually, yes. I think there's a future where we'll be doing our main damage combo with one button. The nuance is in when they introduce it. I believe we'd have to have enough meaningful and impactful skills in order to not miss the basic combo, per se.
      Hopefully that makes some sense. ^-^

    Speaking of UI features though. I've wanted for years the ability to change the transparency of the chat text input box. I don't understand why this has been overlooked or ignored.

    My issues with some changes aren't necessarily the class simplicity or complexity. I've mained MNK and the Stormblood changes in the beginning were something I welcomed but after some messing around I disliked the "feel" and direction it took.
    I know SAM has to deal more than MNK and I'm fine with that but the way they've set up the Fist switching, TK use, etc. was never really to my liking. Being fast as fuck for such a long time to then slow down multiple times during a fight doesn't feel right.
    New changes seem to lower TK use a bit but there are still slow down periods. I may be whining about dumb stuff cuz MNK will have solid DPS and all plus my issues with the class are more subjective.
    Nonetheless I've been having a more happy and enjoyable time playing some more SAM, BLM, DRK, NIN, etc. so all I have to do is not play MNK but it is a class I developed a connection to. The Shadowbringers changes are undergoing tweaks and after release they'll have patches so I still have hope.
    Edit:
    I'd like to add I'm not the best XIV player. Even though I pay attention to Savage and Ultimate content and do it at times I am not exactly the epitome of MNK main. Still I wanted to share my thoughts considering Yoshida and team want to make a more accessible MMO that has something for everyone and doesn't force you to slave for it.

    User interface is great for the most part, but there are certain things that aren't very intuitive (on controller) that I'll have to look up. Regardless, I'm glad that they're trying to combat button bloat.

    On the topic of UI what about the duty recorder? It seems to be dead or forgotten about at this point. It could do with some updates. I haven't seen all of the interviews yet, but I'm curious if this was asked.

    • @avalonstar
      @avalonstar  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question. I had it on the docket to ask but didn't have time unfortunately. I am hoping that it's a bit more... usable in Shadowbringers. I agree, in it's current state it feels more like an alpha feature.

      @@avalonstar If we could use it for more than 1 trial which is usual the HM primal, then it'd be a lot more useful. As it is, I don't think most people even know about it because when I do stuff my static is like, what the hell is that?

    • @avalonstar
      @avalonstar  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @merelyanillusion Oh definitely. It’d be 100x better without the duty restriction.

    The fine line for the dev is to balance between efficiency and casualization. Too many skills and it's just a drudge to perform optimally, but over simplification kills skill progression the let's pros shine over casuals and not get bored.
    I bailed on SMN when the rotation became too ridiculous to get Demi-B out.
    Larry's "SMN Basically" video where he fast forwards through a 2 min rotation is proof it was silly.

    This sounds maybe a bit douchey but what do you have to do to be eligible to get an invitation to media events? I mean you got around 800 subscribers, those aren't huge numbers by any means.
