A sailboat grabs it's energy from the wind and instantly converts it. The sailboat is probably the most perfect human invention, and the modern racing sailboat is the most perfect iteration of that invention, in my own humble (hah!) opinion. I crewed on racing sailboats on San Francisco Bay for many years, many years ago.
If I had left that much string on the floor of the cockpit I know that I would have had trouble at some stage. After lockdown is lifted I am planning to do a return trip Dartmouth round the island and return in my 40 yr old Iroquois catamaran. (I used to sail out of bembridge.)
Brought back memories of doing it in a a Westerly Pageant. Has to be six years ago and I can age it by my offshore suit as I tested through the St Catherine’s race as we took green water right over the cockpit. Our start line was Roway to Roway and if memory serves me right it took just under 12 hours and I felt sick from Gurnard onwards!! You’ve once again reminded me why I’ve transitioned to the power side of life 😎😎😎. Great achievement and I’m sure your suite of sails was easily valued more than the Westerly!
Not sure the wife would be too happy if I swapped the HR in for one thise speed machines. Great achievement and keep at it ... Just like the 4 minute mile it will be beaten.
A great achievement. Well told and filmed. Thank you.
Love the raw, ambient sound. Sailing that fast is never quiet.
It was nice to see him tack. Not just a bunch of beauty shots, but some maneuvers.
Really good film. Lots of good content and well put together. I really like what planet sail is doing right now. 👌🏼
Only just found this vid, wow that’s flying. Well done
Great work Phil! Keep smashing those records.

A new standard to be challenged. Good on you.

Congratulations!
My hat's off to you.
fabulous but i'll be sticking to cruising !
Did he film all that with a selfie stick?
Hello congratulations saludos
Power reaching? I’ll use that term next time I go sailing with my old sailing mates 🤣🤣
Still don't see the reason why. These boats could be set up with radio controls.
Sit at home in your couch and do the same.
maybe its a good idea to actually say what was the speed.
Watch the video - No - All the way to the end, Dumdum.

That’s one way to keep the solar panels clean , having the ocean wash over them !

Can anyone beat my record of a week and six hours to get round with two people and two dogs in a wooden clinker seventeen footer. ?
