I have a female Husky that at 6 mos. I sent her to a off leash training camp for 2 weeks in Toledo Ohio. Upon picking her up I couldn't believe she was the same dog. It's been a yr since I've gotten her back and she is still the best trained Husky I've seen. People ask if I have our yard wired because she stays in the yard so well. Tonight she stirred up a rabbit and chased it towards my neighbors I yelled BACK to Karina and she broke off the chase before reaching our property line. I'm a believer in the Ecoller training methods.
I've just got a husky, he's stunning and I can't wait to do more training with him, he's 8 and a half weeks and he learnt sit straight away, he can already do paw and I've had him for 4 days, and he's learning lie down, he's learning come but he's got selective hearing, hopefully he'll be ready when we go for walks, hopefully this video will help us! Good luck!!! Huskies are probably the worst with outdoor training- they’re super intelligent dogs but they have such a high go drive when it comes to outside, that’s why they can’t be off leash trained, considering once they’re gone they’re sprinting down the street no matter how well trained or how much they love you. You could bring a hot dog out and peanut butter and they’d turn and sprint off and not come back. Definitely work with heeling BEFORE outside- or if you live in the country that’s more okay. Since they have a worse outdoor attention span it’s really great to teach them inside, that way you can have a little of a starter when going outdoors and working with more distractions. Man are they huge pullers- my youngest is six months on aug 8, and he pulls worse than out two year old husky. ( rescue - he is getting great at heel. ) we are looking to get another but instead of another husky we are thinking German Shepherd. Hope all goes well with yours XX. We are trying to make ours a therapy dog for the children’s hospital :)) it’s definitely possible to train them to be super obedient, they just need a lot of patience!!
my dog knows how to run fast but not so much slowing down, when I call her she runs as fast as she can and then just plows into whatever she is running at full speed, she brakes way to late lol
Nice job. I’ve raised a wolf, a malamute and 2 huskies. You are definitely giving good advice. But, it is not as easy as you imply and I,know,you didn’t do,that on purpose. There will be much frustration people, but hang in there and follow,this advice.
I'm new to your channel. I had nine huskies when I was younger. My favorite one, Tundra, looked just like the husky in this video. I know just what to meant when you said huskies are more of a challenge to train. I ran my huskies on a sled team. Sled trained huskies are very different then house pet huskies. We don't want them to be calm, we want them turned on and ready to run. From what I know about huskies, I am blown away with what you accomplished. You know the breed and your craft well. Can't wait for more videos.

Living in the country we had a Eurasia, she was a pet but ran all day, hunted and was on guard all day at home, she rarely fell asleep and often she waited until dh got home at night around 11pm before sleeping. She could easily have ran on a team and she would run the farm daily, since I was outside a lot she was with me round the clock but when I was not she got into trouble. My current high speed is my aussie shepherd/border collie, I have been with them before but this one is like a husky just distracted by everything outside, she would probably run forever, especially since her parents were large cattle working dogs, sweet but not made to be passive. She is my service dog but still too young and they really take a long time to mature. It takes myself and 2 others to keep her busy, since she is always with me it is easy to keep her out of trouble. This was planned though but it is still hard and for her protection I may have to side with an e-collar to work some things that she is so flightly about and nervous. She has come around and this girls video has helped me appreciate the collar.
Omg with us too! We were soooo excited to get out alaskan husky pup but EVERYONE was super negative to it and some went "good luck!" but with like.. bad attitude. I wasn't as super happy about having him then, but he's a super good boi and I think we're doing good with him. The best part is walking him and meeting strangers who compliment my training♥
I had a high energy hunting dog that could not be controlled without an e-collar. After spending countless days chasing her hunting birds on the beach, a friend taught me how to use the e-collar (don't buy the cheap ones which could injure your dog; I used a collar from dogtra and was very happy with their product). First of all, shock yourself with the collar. Start at zero and I promise you won't feel a thing. Gradually increase the level. At 10, you may feel a slight tingle. At 30, it may feel like licking a 9v battery. The point is that you should know how much 'pain' you are inflicting on your dog and should only be willing to do so if you yourself knows what it feels like. Second, by controlling the dog with an e-collar you are helping to keep your dog SAFE, not torturing it! You are aware of other dangers that your dog may not sense (e.g. cars, snakes, ranchers with itchy trigger fingers, etc.). High impulse dogs require more stimulus to distract them from their hunting instincts. A simple 'come' command will not do the trick on its own. Third, gradually increase the level until you achieve the desired response. On my dogtra (which goes to 120), I typically start in the 20-25 range. In more stressful situations where your dog starts chasing prey, for example, you may need to double or even triple that level. Lastly, I would advise against using the shock feature if your dog is in water. There is a lot of responsibility with using an e-collar, but the rewards are immense. Believe or not, your dog is happier because it now knows boundaries. Rather than having an owner constantly upset at it for reasons it does not understand, the rules become much simpler. It becomes easier to train your dog, and eventually you rarely even need to shock it. My girlfriend was dubious of using an e-collar on our malamute-husky, but she quickly became a convert after seeing its effectiveness in just a few short sessions. I would much rather shock my dog than see it hit by a car, attacked by a wild animal, or get lost whilst chasing a deer. When used correctly, e-collars are good for both the dog and the owners.

Colin Alexander I’ve honestly never thought about this. My dog is a ratting terrier with so much drive even if I’m screaming come she will not leave a chase or a scent until she’s satisfied. She’s completely aware what come means. But to get her attention away from something she’s found is almost impossible. Maybe a small buzz from an ecollar will be enough stimulation to remember I exist and she’s to return to me 🤣
I found that my hunting dog started to come even when chasing prey after I started exersicing her more mentally and physicly. If she's mentally simulated it won't be as interesting to go after wild animals because she already gets that stimulation even if it's in a more controlled way. I thought I would mention this because I know a lot of people who have hunting dogs and don't exersice them enough and later blame the dog when it runs off and gets its exercise without its owner...
So many people think you cannot trust a husky off leash - it's great to see this proven wrong. I also used an e-collar and treats to train my husky off leash and she no longer requires the collar or the treats. Your video is perfect - clear, concise, and encouraging. I also really appreciate your open and non-judgemental attitude. I enjoyed watching your video, as it encouraged me to train my next husky exactly the same way and not consider it a fluke that I have a husky that can be off-leash. It's great that you're using the tool safely, I've seen what e-collars can do good and bad, from potentially saving a dogs life to permanent scarring, I'm not anti any kind of high quality tool as long as it's used correctly, but I think caution needs to be taken with the tool you buy and how you choose to use it, I'd much prefer to have a little shock a few times than to lose my freedom forever, so I can't see why a dog would choose differently!

Honestly you have to be consistent with training, have lots of patience, exercise and play with them daily, and ngl it’s much better when you keep a puppy you raised. My husky female has a gentle temperament and listens well thankfully so she was easy to raise and she was a great mom with her first litter. Out of the 5 she birthed we decided to keep 1 male and I know male huskies are supposed to be more difficult compared to their female counterparts (as that’s how my first male husky was but Rest In Peace). But because I helped raise our puppy that got to stay and took the time to raise our first litter properly he became a dream. At two months he came when called, knew his name, he knew how to sit, waited patiently for commands and treats, how to give a paw, knew to not jump on me when he greeted me, knew not to nip at my hair or drawstrings from my sweaters, knew how to play fetch, we got rid of his food aggression, we had gotten rid of his nipping, greatly minimized destroying everything in the house to soothe his teething, etc. This also came much faster because since we had raised him, there was no need to teach him his name, no need to gain his trust, no need to teach him that my presence was something he should get excited about, no need to teach him that my presence means more than food and water, etc. Now that he’s in his adolescent phase he still listens well just like before but I make sure to train and play with him more consistently since this is where huskies start getting really rebellious. The mom and his litter also helped a lot with his social skills and in other areas a human can do little about, the last of his siblings left around 3.5 months so he still had a playmate to practice his social skills with.

Absolutely agree with you and your usage of the e-collar. I adopted my husky mix 6 years ago, and she had a LOT of anxiety, which led to unpredictable aggressive behavior. The most stressful times were when she would just snap out of nowhere. When she was in her "aggression" mode, there was no way of stopping except to run away. I picked up the cues when she was losing focus and I initially attempted to use treats to get her attention and keep focus. Didn't work, she'd still end up losing it. It was almost like Jekyll and Hyde, because it would happen in a split second. But I found help through a professional trainer, and I learned to use the ecollar to keep her focused, which helped prevent the aggression. This led to my dog building complete trust in me. And after 3 years of being on it, I barely have to use the collar. She's become confident and very trusting. It's unfortunate that the people who don't know how to use it for these reasons, end up abusing their dogs with them. I'm sorry this isn't a resource for some people, but I can 100% attest to the positive outcome with my furbaby.
Really glad it worked out and like all things anything can be abused and training things a dog should and should not do can also be abused. You clearly had a commitment and that is everything, dogs know that.
I have a rescue Husky male about 3 years old......like you they wanted to "train the husky out of the husky" the dog is terrified and traumatized by any eclectic noise beeps, or even the faint sounds of the PC harddrive. PLEASE BUY A BOOK On HUSKY TRAINING SPECIFICALLY....
This is kinda funny because I recently compared my Husky to Jekyll and Hyde. We adopted her a few month ago at the age of 3, because her previous owners didn't take much care of her and she was lucky if someone stepped by and took her for a walk. She is not our first dog, she is my fourth, but she is our first Husky. And she is unpredictable. Sometimes she acts like the cutest girl, she wants to be pet and snuggles a lot. And sometimes she acts like a little devil, not attempting to do anything you want her to do and showing her teeth if you approach her. We are currently trying to figure out how to train an adult Husky whose past is not exactly known. We don't know if she has any traumas, but we think so (her previous owners were not the first ones, she had another before). It is not easy, we need a lot more patience than we needed with our previous dogs (which where by the way Eurasier) and at the current state, it is impossible to get her off leash. As soon as she is off leash, she runs away and we are busy to get her to the leash again for half an hour up to an hour. Sometimes she was pretty close to us but she wouldn't let us grab the harness (shows her teeth again). I could grab it after she was running around and we were pretending not to care, pretending to go home without her. Doing this for a while, she came up to me and I could finally grab her without her showing the teeth. So after this, I'm not sure if we could ever train and trust her to let her walk off leash. The "off-leash-scenario" was by the way at a beach where we didn't think much could happen. We never had her off leash before and for the next time we won't do that again.
I am at a point in my life where I finally get to have the dog of my dreams. I have done extensive research and my lifestyle will go hand in hand with ownership of the most incredible breed(husky). I can't wait to train and exercise my little wolf. Your videos are incredible and do husky owners a great service. Just subscribed! More content please.

Hi I watched your video a couple of months ago and it helped me decide that I will do e collaring training with my two Siberian Husky pups. They were around 7 mths old when we started and now at 9 months it is crazy the difference in their recall. We are almost at 100% to trusting them off leash. Thank you for showing that E Collar can be a positive experience when used right.

It's been seven months for you but seeing this post is huge for me and gave me the courage to start on my 7 month old crazy animal. I am curious how it is now for your two pups. I would also be curious if you used the same E-Collar as Kim or something else, because honestly $200 is a lot. Also, Kim, just some advice (nitpicky but if you see this might help). You should talk about what age to start with E-Collar's or if it matters. My hesitation was me thinking, "Can I even start using an E-Collar before 1 year?" Saw it somewhere I thought so others might have as well. A VERY good video and gives me hope to have my boy off leash. So thank you, both of you!

This was a very informative video. I do have a lot of friends that would disagree with the e-colar however they also dont own a husky either. He is extremely well mannered in the house however literally becomes a completely different dog once he goes outside and won't look at twice if he gets loose and becomes a game of trying to catch him to save his life! Currently training my SDiT on the e-collar and have found this video very helpful! For future videos, would it be possible to put a sign or symbol on the screen to indicate whenever you press the button on your educator? Might help to get a better idea of duration and timing when you use stimulation or vibrate, but just a suggestion :). I am currently on the fence with getting this dog. I am ready for this challenge and have a ton of property for this. My worry is is it even possible to get these dogs to listen consistently. You have definitely given me hope. Thanks for the video!
I went to forest with my husky 4-5 times a week since she was 1 year old and she has been off lead since than any place we go.She is 7 years old now and I never used shock e color.I If you spend enough time with your dog,give them enough exercise like a lot and attention they will always be near you ❤ I know for some people is not this easy but my husky grow up around my whole family so she always got love and exercise.When she was a puppy we pretty much took her everywhere with us again a lot of people can't do that cause of work but my whole family looked after her.
It honestly depends on the dog, breeding background, how much conditioning they had as a puppy, their temperament, prey drive, etc. Most huskies can't be trusted off leash period, but there are obviously exceptions to that. Voodoo was off leash from day one with us and she was perfect until she hit 6-7 months old and decided she was through listening. The E-Collar is simply a fail safe for us, because I would rather not chance a high prey drive dog off leash running into the road and getting killed. E-Collars aren't for everyone or every dog, but for husky owners they can be an incredible tool when used correctly!

I have a small dog now, and she's pretty good at listening. I have no problem taking her camping and she wonders freely around our campsite- always comes when i call her. However, I'm fearful i won't have the same success with a husky, considering their reputation lol... Therefore, the e-collar will be a great asset to her training. Thank you so much for this helpful video! I'm a first time husky owner (not my first dog tho) and I've read a lot about how you can't have a husky off leash because of their high prey drive. I have a 3 yo Brittany that has been trained with an e collar and he thinks the collar means we're going on an adventure, he has no fear of it at all. I am a big fan of the e collars and it gets annoying when people always think it's cruel.
Been going around and around with my hubby on e collars but after watching this video I've changed my mind and we're going to try it. We live on 5 acres and it'll be nice to let them run off a leash. Love the video!! Have watched Sean and Jeff for a long time! Just started using e-collar for recall and works great except when there’s a cat, squirrel or drone!! All 3 of my dogs go berserk!! I know the timing is crucial but sometimes I can’t always see the squirrel before they do. I’m always in a safe place. I have always had great dogs where I could take them hiking and they just let them Chase little animals and never catch them and just come back to me. It seems like it’s harmless but something in me tells me it’s not a good idea especially for the dogs I have now. Does letting them chase squirrels increase their prey drive? Are you a trainer? I just watched your video for the first time today. Thx!
If you want to train your dog to behave in certain situations then you need to break it down for them. Look at Stonnie Dennis, Kikopup, Pam's dog academy, Kristen Costejo and Simpawtico, they work with all kinds of dogs and can teach anything, even willingly want to take a bath and stand there with no tether. My service pup loves the bathroom and bathtub, life is a game for dogs, you just need to teach them the one you want and they will love it and want to please you. If they can teach all types on Ted Talks to stay still for an MRI you can do this. It is harder with more than one dog, so work with all of them on basics the same way but when doing certain exposures consider one at a time. These trainers also will train with you on-line. Good luck and don't give up, you can get what you want but you have to work at it as hard as your dog chases a chipmunk.So worth it.
My husky came to me door two years ago. No collar tag. Ask mailman and looked for poster. He's the best. Vet thought her was 1yr old. So he's about three. He is very food driven . I can have in off the leash at home and he knows his boundaries. I will look into getting an e collar. I swear I knew him in another life. I love this dog. He's so good with my kids. I never get tired of loving on him. Husband gets jealous. Great video.
We have a husky named Sofia that we went four hours away to get. Out of 6 puppies Sofia was the only one not huddled in the corner with the rest. It was automatic that she was the one we would leave with. She is now only 10 months old and still as rambunctious as she was when we got her. However. With four young kids she fits in perfectly. She is so smart and learns quickly. I really needed to see this video because I hope to train her on her crazy side lol. Huskies are amazing dogs but do require lots of love determination and time. I am so glad to have gotten her and thank you so much for your video!!!!
This video is so helpful! I've been training my boxer/husky puppy from the day I got him. He has the energy of a husky but it's a little easier to run his energy out before training. Leash and off leash is what I'm struggling with right now so I will definitely be using the contents of this video for future training! Thank you!
Nice to see someone else who knows how to actually use an E-collar. I've not been a fan of them less because they're inherently bad (they're not), but that most people don't even so much as read the manual that came with them (which has many of the same points) let alone anything else. All of the dogs I've ever had have either completely ignored them up to levels I didn't feel comfortable using them at, or (like time) just recall trained without. I do not know why.

This is my husbands channel, I love your videos. They are very helpful 😊. We have a big husky pup ( at 51 pounds at 6 months). She pulls like a train, but with the video on TH-cam and your videos we will be getting her a e-collar and a martingale collar. She is responding to heal but she does get easily distracted and she is a huge back talker. She argues with me all the time just like a teenager. But we love her massiveness.
Good video. I laughed at the end with your harassment disclaimer, I had one girl rip into me hard core after telling her I used one. I mostly just use the noise tone on it though unless a rabbit runs towards the road or something. I live on a couple acre's in the country and have family as neighbors so its hard to set a specific boundary for where she can and can't go, other than towards the highway, which she seems to understand perfectly fine until a rabbit is involved. Good tips though, they will help.
I can’t stand when people are like “YOU ABSOLUTELY CAN NOT TRAIN A HUSKY TO BE OFF LEASH!” My husky can’t be off leash but she knows damn well not to leave the house when the door is wide open lol. That took lots of patience and I’m proud of myself 🤣
I have a 2.5yr old boy and just got a 4 month old girl. I've been doing of leash with my boy and find that when he's with a friend or just us then it's great getting them back with recall. I take them to huge dog parks and let them go a bit them do constant recall. The one thing I can say is that the girl is much easier or maybe it's because she's around an older dog.
My husky Luke, is a gem indoors when he is training but becomes switches like a Dr. Hyde the moment he gets outside in a park. I've actually had 2 scares with him running out of the park. I'm already using the long line method..but there is still stubbornness in him to not return. He is not food driven once he's in the park. Saw your video and going to try the e-collar. We don't have the same brand here but will buy something similar. Thanks for your inspiration

Nice job. I’ve raised a wolf, a malamute and 2 huskies. You are definitely giving good advice. But, it is not as easy as you imply and I,know,you didn’t do,that on purpose. There will be much frustration people, but hang in there and follow,this advice.
I'm new to your channel. I had nine huskies when I was younger. My favorite one, Tundra, looked just like the husky in this video. I know just what to meant when you said huskies are more of a challenge to train. I ran my huskies on a sled team. Sled trained huskies are very different then house pet huskies. We don't want them to be calm, we want them turned on and ready to run. From what I know about huskies, I am blown away with what you accomplished. You know the breed and your craft well. Can't wait for more videos.

Living in the country we had a Eurasia, she was a pet but ran all day, hunted and was on guard all day at home, she rarely fell asleep and often she waited until dh got home at night around 11pm before sleeping. She could easily have ran on a team and she would run the farm daily, since I was outside a lot she was with me round the clock but when I was not she got into trouble. My current high speed is my aussie shepherd/border collie, I have been with them before but this one is like a husky just distracted by everything outside, she would probably run forever, especially since her parents were large cattle working dogs, sweet but not made to be passive. She is my service dog but still too young and they really take a long time to mature. It takes myself and 2 others to keep her busy, since she is always with me it is easy to keep her out of trouble. This was planned though but it is still hard and for her protection I may have to side with an e-collar to work some things that she is so flightly about and nervous. She has come around and this girls video has helped me appreciate the collar.

Omg with us too! We were soooo excited to get out alaskan husky pup but EVERYONE was super negative to it and some went "good luck!" but with like.. bad attitude. I wasn't as super happy about having him then, but he's a super good boi and I think we're doing good with him. The best part is walking him and meeting strangers who compliment my training♥
I had a high energy hunting dog that could not be controlled without an e-collar. After spending countless days chasing her hunting birds on the beach, a friend taught me how to use the e-collar (don't buy the cheap ones which could injure your dog; I used a collar from dogtra and was very happy with their product). First of all, shock yourself with the collar. Start at zero and I promise you won't feel a thing. Gradually increase the level. At 10, you may feel a slight tingle. At 30, it may feel like licking a 9v battery. The point is that you should know how much 'pain' you are inflicting on your dog and should only be willing to do so if you yourself knows what it feels like. Second, by controlling the dog with an e-collar you are helping to keep your dog SAFE, not torturing it! You are aware of other dangers that your dog may not sense (e.g. cars, snakes, ranchers with itchy trigger fingers, etc.). High impulse dogs require more stimulus to distract them from their hunting instincts. A simple 'come' command will not do the trick on its own. Third, gradually increase the level until you achieve the desired response. On my dogtra (which goes to 120), I typically start in the 20-25 range. In more stressful situations where your dog starts chasing prey, for example, you may need to double or even triple that level. Lastly, I would advise against using the shock feature if your dog is in water.
There is a lot of responsibility with using an e-collar, but the rewards are immense. Believe or not, your dog is happier because it now knows boundaries. Rather than having an owner constantly upset at it for reasons it does not understand, the rules become much simpler. It becomes easier to train your dog, and eventually you rarely even need to shock it. My girlfriend was dubious of using an e-collar on our malamute-husky, but she quickly became a convert after seeing its effectiveness in just a few short sessions. I would much rather shock my dog than see it hit by a car, attacked by a wild animal, or get lost whilst chasing a deer. When used correctly, e-collars are good for both the dog and the owners.

Colin Alexander I’ve honestly never thought about this. My dog is a ratting terrier with so much drive even if I’m screaming come she will not leave a chase or a scent until she’s satisfied. She’s completely aware what come means. But to get her attention away from something she’s found is almost impossible. Maybe a small buzz from an ecollar will be enough stimulation to remember I exist and she’s to return to me 🤣

I found that my hunting dog started to come even when chasing prey after I started exersicing her more mentally and physicly. If she's mentally simulated it won't be as interesting to go after wild animals because she already gets that stimulation even if it's in a more controlled way. I thought I would mention this because I know a lot of people who have hunting dogs and don't exersice them enough and later blame the dog when it runs off and gets its exercise without its owner...
So many people think you cannot trust a husky off leash - it's great to see this proven wrong. I also used an e-collar and treats to train my husky off leash and she no longer requires the collar or the treats. Your video is perfect - clear, concise, and encouraging. I also really appreciate your open and non-judgemental attitude. I enjoyed watching your video, as it encouraged me to train my next husky exactly the same way and not consider it a fluke that I have a husky that can be off-leash. It's great that you're using the tool safely, I've seen what e-collars can do good and bad, from potentially saving a dogs life to permanent scarring, I'm not anti any kind of high quality tool as long as it's used correctly, but I think caution needs to be taken with the tool you buy and how you choose to use it, I'd much prefer to have a little shock a few times than to lose my freedom forever, so I can't see why a dog would choose differently!

Honestly you have to be consistent with training, have lots of patience, exercise and play with them daily, and ngl it’s much better when you keep a puppy you raised. My husky female has a gentle temperament and listens well thankfully so she was easy to raise and she was a great mom with her first litter. Out of the 5 she birthed we decided to keep 1 male and I know male huskies are supposed to be more difficult compared to their female counterparts (as that’s how my first male husky was but Rest In Peace). But because I helped raise our puppy that got to stay and took the time to raise our first litter properly he became a dream. At two months he came when called, knew his name, he knew how to sit, waited patiently for commands and treats, how to give a paw, knew to not jump on me when he greeted me, knew not to nip at my hair or drawstrings from my sweaters, knew how to play fetch, we got rid of his food aggression, we had gotten rid of his nipping, greatly minimized destroying everything in the house to soothe his teething, etc. This also came much faster because since we had raised him, there was no need to teach him his name, no need to gain his trust, no need to teach him that my presence was something he should get excited about, no need to teach him that my presence means more than food and water, etc. Now that he’s in his adolescent phase he still listens well just like before but I make sure to train and play with him more consistently since this is where huskies start getting really rebellious.
The mom and his litter also helped a lot with his social skills and in other areas a human can do little about, the last of his siblings left around 3.5 months so he still had a playmate to practice his social skills with.

Absolutely agree with you and your usage of the e-collar. I adopted my husky mix 6 years ago, and she had a LOT of anxiety, which led to unpredictable aggressive behavior.
The most stressful times were when she would just snap out of nowhere. When she was in her "aggression" mode, there was no way of stopping except to run away. I picked up the cues when she was losing focus and I initially attempted to use treats to get her attention and keep focus. Didn't work, she'd still end up losing it. It was almost like Jekyll and Hyde, because it would happen in a split second.
But I found help through a professional trainer, and I learned to use the ecollar to keep her focused, which helped prevent the aggression. This led to my dog building complete trust in me. And after 3 years of being on it, I barely have to use the collar. She's become confident and very trusting.
It's unfortunate that the people who don't know how to use it for these reasons, end up abusing their dogs with them. I'm sorry this isn't a resource for some people, but I can 100% attest to the positive outcome with my furbaby.

Really glad it worked out and like all things anything can be abused and training things a dog should and should not do can also be abused. You clearly had a commitment and that is everything, dogs know that.
I have a rescue Husky male about 3 years old......like you they wanted to "train the husky out of the husky" the dog is terrified and traumatized by any eclectic noise beeps, or even the faint sounds of the PC harddrive. PLEASE BUY A BOOK On HUSKY TRAINING SPECIFICALLY....

This is kinda funny because I recently compared my Husky to Jekyll and Hyde. We adopted her a few month ago at the age of 3, because her previous owners didn't take much care of her and she was lucky if someone stepped by and took her for a walk. She is not our first dog, she is my fourth, but she is our first Husky. And she is unpredictable. Sometimes she acts like the cutest girl, she wants to be pet and snuggles a lot. And sometimes she acts like a little devil, not attempting to do anything you want her to do and showing her teeth if you approach her. We are currently trying to figure out how to train an adult Husky whose past is not exactly known. We don't know if she has any traumas, but we think so (her previous owners were not the first ones, she had another before). It is not easy, we need a lot more patience than we needed with our previous dogs (which where by the way Eurasier) and at the current state, it is impossible to get her off leash. As soon as she is off leash, she runs away and we are busy to get her to the leash again for half an hour up to an hour. Sometimes she was pretty close to us but she wouldn't let us grab the harness (shows her teeth again). I could grab it after she was running around and we were pretending not to care, pretending to go home without her. Doing this for a while, she came up to me and I could finally grab her without her showing the teeth. So after this, I'm not sure if we could ever train and trust her to let her walk off leash.
The "off-leash-scenario" was by the way at a beach where we didn't think much could happen. We never had her off leash before and for the next time we won't do that again.
I am at a point in my life where I finally get to have the dog of my dreams. I have done extensive research and my lifestyle will go hand in hand with ownership of the most incredible breed(husky). I can't wait to train and exercise my little wolf. Your videos are incredible and do husky owners a great service. Just subscribed! More content please.

Hi I watched your video a couple of months ago and it helped me decide that I will do e collaring training with my two Siberian Husky pups. They were around 7 mths old when we started and now at 9 months it is crazy the difference in their recall. We are almost at 100% to trusting them off leash. Thank you for showing that E Collar can be a positive experience when used right.

It's been seven months for you but seeing this post is huge for me and gave me the courage to start on my 7 month old crazy animal. I am curious how it is now for your two pups. I would also be curious if you used the same E-Collar as Kim or something else, because honestly $200 is a lot.
Also, Kim, just some advice (nitpicky but if you see this might help). You should talk about what age to start with E-Collar's or if it matters. My hesitation was me thinking, "Can I even start using an E-Collar before 1 year?" Saw it somewhere I thought so others might have as well. This was a very informative video. I do have a lot of friends that would disagree with the e-colar however they also dont own a husky either. He is extremely well mannered in the house however literally becomes a completely different dog once he goes outside and won't look at twice if he gets loose and becomes a game of trying to catch him to save his life! Currently training my SDiT on the e-collar and have found this video very helpful! For future videos, would it be possible to put a sign or symbol on the screen to indicate whenever you press the button on your educator? Might help to get a better idea of duration and timing when you use stimulation or vibrate, but just a suggestion :). I am currently on the fence with getting this dog. I am ready for this challenge and have a ton of property for this. My worry is is it even possible to get these dogs to listen consistently. You have definitely given me hope. Thanks for the video!
I went to forest with my husky 4-5 times a week since she was 1 year old and she has been off lead since than any place we go.She is 7 years old now and I never used shock e color.I If you spend enough time with your dog,give them enough exercise like a lot and attention they will always be near you ❤ I know for some people is not this easy but my husky grow up around my whole family so she always got love and exercise.When she was a puppy we pretty much took her everywhere with us again a lot of people can't do that cause of work but my whole family looked after her.
It honestly depends on the dog, breeding background, how much conditioning they had as a puppy, their temperament, prey drive, etc. Most huskies can't be trusted off leash period, but there are obviously exceptions to that. Voodoo was off leash from day one with us and she was perfect until she hit 6-7 months old and decided she was through listening. The E-Collar is simply a fail safe for us, because I would rather not chance a high prey drive dog off leash running into the road and getting killed. E-Collars aren't for everyone or every dog, but for husky owners they can be an incredible tool when used correctly!

Thank you for the informative video! I will be acquiring an 8 week old husky at the end of January. I've had other bigger breeds but never a husky. I have a small dog now, and she's pretty good at listening. I have no problem taking her camping and she wonders freely around our campsite- always comes when i call her. However, I'm fearful i won't have the same success with a husky, considering their reputation lol... Therefore, the e-collar will be a great asset to her training. Thank you so much for this helpful video! I'm a first time husky owner (not my first dog tho) and I've read a lot about how you can't have a husky off leash because of their high prey drive. I have a 3 yo Brittany that has been trained with an e collar and he thinks the collar means we're going on an adventure, he has no fear of it at all. I am a big fan of the e collars and it gets annoying when people always think it's cruel.

Love the video!! Have watched Sean and Jeff for a long time! Just started using e-collar for recall and works great except when there’s a cat, squirrel or drone!! All 3 of my dogs go berserk!! I know the timing is crucial but sometimes I can’t always see the squirrel before they do. I’m always in a safe place. I have always had great dogs where I could take them hiking and they just let them Chase little animals and never catch them and just come back to me. It seems like it’s harmless but something in me tells me it’s not a good idea especially for the dogs I have now. Does letting them chase squirrels increase their prey drive? Are you a trainer? I just watched your video for the first time today. Thx!
If you want to train your dog to behave in certain situations then you need to break it down for them. Look at Stonnie Dennis, Kikopup, Pam's dog academy, Kristen Costejo and Simpawtico, they work with all kinds of dogs and can teach anything, even willingly want to take a bath and stand there with no tether. My service pup loves the bathroom and bathtub, life is a game for dogs, you just need to teach them the one you want and they will love it and want to please you. If they can teach all types on Ted Talks to stay still for an MRI you can do this. It is harder with more than one dog, so work with all of them on basics the same way but when doing certain exposures consider one at a time. These trainers also will train with you on-line. Good luck and don't give up, you can get what you want but you have to work at it as hard as your dog chases a chipmunk.So worth it.

My husky came to me door two years ago. No collar tag. Ask mailman and looked for poster. He's the best. Vet thought her was 1yr old. So he's about three. He is very food driven . I can have in off the leash at home and he knows his boundaries. I will look into getting an e collar. I swear I knew him in another life. I love this dog. He's so good with my kids. I never get tired of loving on him. Husband gets jealous. Great video.

We have a husky named Sofia that we went four hours away to get. Out of 6 puppies Sofia was the only one not huddled in the corner with the rest. It was automatic that she was the one we would leave with. She is now only 10 months old and still as rambunctious as she was when we got her. However. With four young kids she fits in perfectly. She is so smart and learns quickly. I really needed to see this video because I hope to train her on her crazy side lol. Huskies are amazing dogs but do require lots of love determination and time. I am so glad to have gotten her and thank you so much for your video!!!!

This video is so helpful! I've been training my boxer/husky puppy from the day I got him. He has the energy of a husky but it's a little easier to run his energy out before training. Nice to see someone else who knows how to actually use an E-collar.
I've not been a fan of them less because they're inherently bad (they're not), but that most people don't even so much as read the manual that came with them (which has many of the same points) let alone anything else.
All of the dogs I've ever had have either completely ignored them up to levels I didn't feel comfortable using them at, or (like time) just recall trained without. I do not know why.

This is my husbands channel, I love your videos. They are very helpful 😊. We have a big husky pup ( at 51 pounds at 6 months). She pulls like a train, but with the video on TH-cam and your videos we will be getting her a e-collar and a martingale collar. She is responding to heal but she does get easily distracted and she is a huge back talker. She argues with me all the time just like a teenager. But we love her massiveness.

I mostly just use the noise tone on it though unless a rabbit runs towards the road or something. I live on a couple acre's in the country and have family as neighbors so its hard to set a specific boundary for where she can and can't go, other than towards the highway, which she seems to understand perfectly fine until a rabbit is involved. Good tips though, they will help.

I can’t stand when people are like “YOU ABSOLUTELY CAN NOT TRAIN A HUSKY TO BE OFF LEASH!” My husky can’t be off leash but she knows damn well not to leave the house when the door is wide open lol. That took lots of patience and I’m proud of myself 🤣
I have a 2.5yr old boy and just got a 4 month old girl. I've been doing of leash with my boy and find that when he's with a friend or just us then it's great getting them back with recall. I take them to huge dog parks and let them go a bit them do constant recall. The one thing I can say is that the girl is much easier or maybe it's because she's around an older dog.

My husky Luke, is a gem indoors when he is training but becomes switches like a Dr. Hyde the moment he gets outside in a park. I've actually had 2 scares with him running out of the park. I'm already using the long line method..but there is still stubbornness in him to not return. He is not food driven once he's in the park. Saw your video and going to try the e-collar. We don't have the same brand here but will buy something similar. Thanks for your inspiration
