  • Composting is really easy - so much bad info out there telling you to manually turn the HEAVY stuff over and over till it's fully biodegraded.
You can just have TWO piles and after one is full let it go a year while you fill the next pile, and you can process the older, completed pile using this method.
My left hand was filming, so it isn't the best depiction, but you should get the idea. Wrap 1/2" hardware cloth (heavy wire mesh) around a 2' x 4' cedar or treated lumber frame, and secure with heavy staples. Wrap it all the way around the frame so the weight of the compost doesn't pull the hardware cloth loose.
I store the wonderful screened, mature compost in plasti buckets or totes, and add some while planting seeds or seedlings.

I like to keep my compost from drying out and keep it active to keep all the critters alive. After it is mainly broken down and no longer hot, i like to add worms and cover it and let the worms finish it into worm castings. I put current kitchen veg scraps on top to keep them happy until i use it. When i need a bucketful, i rake back the scraps and shovel it worms and all for my bed. I also like to cover it with mulch in the bed and water it in. I treat it like it is living soil.
