I really appreciated that you mentioned the Zionist aspect of Gabrielle Zevin. a lot of youtubers promote certain books but don't mention this element and it's a shame. Great video ! 💌
Openly racist? Who gives a fuck it's just a book. It's pretty well written and entertaining. I'm 100 Pages in. Bigots lol can't even enjoy a simplefiction entertainment book nowadays huh😂
Thank you for not supporting Gabrielle Zevin! It's been really bothering me how in almost every end of the year wrap up I've seen people talk about popular books by authors who support Israel, with no mention of it, even in the comment section...
oh we stan the tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow dragging 👏i said a similar thing in my wrap up of the year! i can't believe people are still supporting her and her work
the only booktuber who's been bravely and unapologetically vocal abt their support for 🍉among all the ones i'm subscribed to and watch on a regular basis. 🍉🍉🍉❤❤❤
Encyclopedia of Faeries stole my whole heart this year. I just picked up Salt Houses from the library, but Im looking forward to adding some more to my 2024 tbr now 🍉
Omg the way I screamed at Gabrielle Zefin 😂 thank you so much for supporting Palestine and acknowledging problematic authors!! So many booktubers chose a book over their humanity 🤷🏻♀️.
I love Historical Romance so I squealed a bit when you said Diana Quincy. Her books are all about powerful and intelligent middle eastern & south east Asian women. You should check out some of her other stuff.
so sad about 'tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow' since I heard it's v good :( but thank you for not being silent about it! also LOVED "how to keep house...", never thought a self help book would make me cry tears of relief haha
I read 89 books in 2023 and have many favorites! Of the ones you mentioned here, I’ve read VAMPIRES OF EL NORTE, LOVE, THEORETICALLY, STARLING HOUSE, and EMILY WILDE’S ENCYCLOPAEDIA OF FAERIES. In talking to some fellow author friends who are Type 1 diabetics and they told me they consider the rep in LOVE, THEORETICALLY to be harmful, which is really disappointing! Some favorite reads of 2023: - LUNAR LOVE by Lauren Kung Jessen (Adult Rom-Com) - WALDEN by Amy Berryman (a published play) - GHOST MUSIC by An Yu (Adult Literary Fiction/Magical Realism) - SONG OF SILVER, FLAME LIKE NIGHT by Amelie Wen Zhao (YA Fantasy) - DELICIOUS MONSTERS by Liselle Sambury (YA Horror/Thriller) - THE SEARCH FOR US by Susan Azim Boyer (YA Contemporary) - WHERE YOU SEE YOURSELF by Claire Forrest (YA Contemporary) - IF TOMORROW DOESN’T COME by Jen St. Jude (YA Speculative) - WHAT MY BONES KNOW by Stephanie Foo (Adult Memoir) - LOVE LETTERS FOR JOY by Melissa See (YA Contemporary) - OUT OF CHARACTER by Jenna Miller (YA Contemporary) - DISORIENTATION by Elaine Hsieh Chou (Adult Literary Fiction/Satire) - DAMNED IF YOU DO by Alex Brown (YA Horror-Comedy) - VAMPIRES OF EL NORTE by Isabel Canas (Adult Gothic Horror) - FOXGLOVE by Adalyn Grace (YA Gothic Fantasy) - STARLING HOUSE by Alix E. Harrow (Adult Gothic Fantasy) - THE UNMAKING OF JUNE FARROW by Adrienne Young (Adult Magical Realism/Sci-Fi/Time Travel) - EMILY WILDE’S ENCYCLOPAEDIA OF FAERIES by Heather Fawcett (Adult Fantasy) - BEING ACE anthology edited by Madeline Dyer (YA anthology of short stories by asexual authors; biased because I have a story in here!) - GREEN FUSE BURNING by Tiffany Morris (Adult Horror Novella) - WHAT THE RIVER KNOWS by Isabel Ibanez (YA Historical Fantasy) - DIVINE RIVALS by Rebecca Ross (YA Fantasy)
This is so impressive - it's so hard to sum up feelings about books like this, well done! My fave read of 2023 was Adrift by Brideau which I don't hear nearly enough people talking about!! a near-future story of a woman who wakes up alone on a sailboat in Haida Gwaii BC with no memory of who she is. There is just a note warning her to not look back. It follows her as she tries to figure out why her memory was wiped. Set against the backdrop of climate change, it's a clever and fresh take on the typical amnesia story. And the author works in climate policy so the projection of 12 years into the future feels all too real.
Damn a news update, and 5 more books added to my TBR. Bummed that my (now) former best book of 2023 doesn't 'exist' anymore- we can't have nice things. :(
I'm still waiting for the "character growth" in Dating Dr. Dil. That's one of the most misogynist books I've ever read. The book makes jokes about violence against women, and it's supposed to be a romcom?!?!?
@@mitchellbrenner6663 it’s in the video because she read it this year but she doesn’t want to review it because she doesn’t support the author. Her channel her rules. ☺️
Just seems it shouldn't have been in the list. Title of video doesn't say One Sentence About Author's Beliefs. I'm sure if someone did a similar video and said Throw this book out the window because we don't support Queers in this house there would be much more outrage.

ah yes hating people for having different opinions, the favourite sport of the left
This was such a lovely video. I appreciate your comment on Gabrielle Zevin. Love me an informed inclusive empathetic booktuber 🍉🍉🍉

This was fun to watch. Great concept for a year-end book review summary. I'm looking forward to watching more of your content.

1:21 preach girl! Free 🇵🇸
You read such interesting books, I had to keep my goodreads open the whole time 😭💜🍉
I also definitely wasn’t expecting that ending for Love on the Brain!
Omg the way I screamed at Gabrielle Zefin 😂 thank you so much for supporting Palestine and acknowledging problematic authors!! So many booktubers chose a book over their humanity 🤷🏻♀️.
Love that you did this again! You always know how to expand my tbr ❤
Congratulations on 100k 💛🥹
thank you 😭
Thanks for mentioning about Zezin’s Tomorrow Tomorrow and Tomorrow. Free Palestine! Also, you inspire me to read more this year :)
1:25 yes!! the exact reason i removed TTT from my TBR

Many of the books you mentioned are on my TBR!!! Love hearing your reviews 💛
I have seen Tananarive Due's bibliography and I am gravitated to read her books. 📚
I loved Love on the Brain, Yellowface, Born a Crime, Love Theoretically, and Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries.
You inspired me to do my own "one sentence review" LAST YEAR, when I went on my 2023 reading journey. Read 125 books, too!
love these reviews so much!!
I really liked this!!
Jananie giving us Letterboxd (for Books) Review Realness.
This was a lot of fun, and I really loved Hell Bent as well!

i actually bought tomorow and tomorow and tomorow and didn't like it anyway and now you're telling me it supports zianists?! WHY DID I BUY THE BOOK!!!
💜💜
I hope you have a great 2024 love (:

Still would like to know if you researched the backgrounds and beliefs of every author on hour list or just Zevin?
I'm still waiting for the "character growth" in Dating Dr. Dil. That's one of the most misogynist books I've ever read. The book makes jokes about violence against women, and it's supposed to be a romcom?!?!?
There's a bum on your shelf 🙃
What does an author being a Zionist have to do with whether the book was good or not?
She didn’t say if the was good or bad, she said that she doesn’t support Zionism.
But what does that have to do with the book? Isn't that what the whole post was supposed to be about not her opinion on the author?

@@mitchellbrenner6663 Being a zionist is not comparable to being queer. They are fundamentally two different things so your comparison fails.
