      I saw the big cog bit and using a Redstone control block instead of a simple gear box... both hurt so bad to watch but the complete lack of thought to it is kinda endearing and makes me want to try this on my own time as a relax pack. Also he took so long to compact the cobble Gen and kept pulling all the gears and stuff off. Love the pack and concept but Jesus I hope ya pick it up over time and don't keep making the create version of good old fashion Dire Wire xD

    One optimisation tip for you if you want the drill to mine cobble at the same speed as it grinds it into gravel (to prevent backlog on the cobble side), set the drill to mine at half the speed of the millstone
    Since you have the millstone at 256 rpm, you can set your drill at 128 rpm and hopefully it should be good
    And to make the generator smaller (and prevent cobble from dropping into that water hole), use a waterlogged leaf block

  • @elliejohnson2786
    @elliejohnson2786 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +25

    -You can buy books directly
    -You can buy 9 iron nuggets and craft an ingot to save $100
    -You can make a dedicated sappling tree so you don't need to buy sapplings after harvesting them (this would have helped get the ball rolling earlier)
    -You could probably set up an infinite water source without a bucket by using flowing water, water wheels or blocks to displace it, and kelp. Then you can extend these horizontally to get a large kelp farm without needing a bucket
    There's so many areas where you've claimed this modpack is grindy but the only grind you've added is through your own doing. Even skyfactory is more grindy than this and they have mods to replace bonemeal for free. This modpack is definitely not grindy (and that's a good thing)

    you can use stripped wood to get shafts, same crafting recipe. they can only be used as a shaft block, and not as a crafting ingredient but its still useful!

    Hiya Dan, another fun video you got here. I don't know if this makes a difference but, when I have seen and used water wheels before I had the water flowing over more of the wheel (from behind and above) so water flows over more of the wheel. I am also playing along and am planning a mob farm to help get more resources easier (alloy, iron ingots, leather armor, etc)

    • @DanRobzProbz

      As for the water wheels…
      Yes, that used to be the case.
      Not so much anymore, take a look with ponder “w” key & you’ll see.

    Tip. That gearshift was horribly unnecessary, a gearbox would have done the same. You never needed that larger gear and could have just pushed the gearshift back one instead of that entire mechanism. There is a lot of unnecessary stuff going on here and it hurts. But i guess it makes sense.

    43:08 if you extend the belt out by one, then the belt itself will connect to the gearbox instead of needing that extra cog to go around the corner. and you don't have to move the parts that are driving the drill either. just insert another shaft at that point in the belt. and you can extend a belt by r-clicking the end of it with another piece of belt. or you can shorten one by r-clicking with a wrench.

  • @WinstonWhitetail

  • @thinkdunson
    @thinkdunson 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    when you're this strapped for cash, you can use two large cogs in place of a gearbox. they can be placed at 90 degrees from each other and connect around a corner... if you're not sure how to place it correctly, hold a large cog and point at one already placed... when you get it right, you'll see the ghost image of it being placed perpendicularly. you can do this to go around corners horizontally, or to convert rotation from vertical to horizontal or vice versa. it's functionally identical to a gearbox, but it only requires the two cogs in exchange for needing more space in the world.

    • @WinstonWhitetail
      @WinstonWhitetail ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Atm each iron ingot costs 1k per ingot or 900 per 9 nuggets to buy and you'd need at least 4k (or 13k if you havent gotten the press) to buy all the iron you need to start one
      But most definitely an iron farm is doable once you have it all

      @@WinstonWhitetail Vanilla iron farm can provide I think it's 1-5 iron every 5 minutes at its fastest? Washing gravel depends entirely on the input. And is fully scalable by the amount of cobble you produce. Fully capable of producing thousands of iron per hour under the same foot print.

    Gears: It is the gears with touching teeth that change the speed, the gears with touching shafts do not change the speed. So you don't need a small gear coming out if the water wheel and you don't need a large gear before the gearshift, both are just acting as a regular shaft.

  • @thesmartking5188
    @thesmartking5188 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Dan... 🤦‍♂ the reason the smaller water wheels you can only speed up the rotation 4 times compared to the larger one's 6 times is not because the larger one is faster, but the opposite actually. the larger one you need to speed up more to get to the same speed as the smaller one ( 2 times) but the larger one makes more stress units, which means you can hook it up to more machines
    also, the gearshift is only useful if you want to switch the rotation a lot, but if you want to change the rotation, just put two cogs next to each other and the one next to it is turning the opposite direction

    This is a pain to watch. Instead of using a expensive gearshift you could just have used 2 cogwheels to flip the direction. And also for vertical you could've just used 2 large cogwheels to flip the direction from horizontal to vertical. Ahhh such a pain to watch for someone that likes create as much as i do

      25:56 THATS NOT HOW IT WORKSS, THE BIG WATERWHEELS SPIN SLOWER, AND HAVE MOREE STRESS UNITS. SO YOU CAN SPEED IT UP MORE BECAUSE IT CAN POWER MORE THINGS WITHOUT RUNNING OUT OF POWER ANDDDDD BECAUSE ITS SLOWER!

    Before adding any more Waterwheels, or making bigger ones, you should start by maximizing those small ones you already have.
    One good tip in Create, if you take a minute to stop and actually look at the thing you try to use, most of the tech stuff works just like IRL, and make total sense. Problem is most people don't take a minute to stop and look at it.
    Or they think stuff works IRL cuz magic or something.
    First of all, they are directional. If you pay close attention, you will notice the paddles are off-centered. Making them spin one way will give more power than making them spin the other. I THINK the one to the right of the waterfall was the right way, but feel free to test both just to make sure.
    The other way to squeeze more power out of your small Waterwheel is to have more flowing water pushing it.
    Imagine a vertical 3x3x1 hole carved in a wall, with a Waterwheel in the middle.
    Place a block (or a slab, or trapdoor, something to stop water) in the upper-right corner.
    Place water on top, it should flow to the left, giving the Waterwheel some oomph.
    To the left, water will go down, giving the Waterwheel some MORE oomph.
    At the bottom, it will flow to the right, giving same Waterwheel even MORE oomph.
    Now if you had access to some, you could place a block of Soulsand in the bottom-right corner, and a water source just above, to the right of the Waterwheel, and the bubbles going up would give that wheel the max oomph it could get.
    You can also get more power by stacking multiples Waterwheels on the same shaft right next to each other.
    You just need to be careful you make all of them spin the same direction at the same speed, or things will break.
    Also, you don't absolutely need Gearboxes to change axial direction, or Gearshifts to change rotational direction.
    ALL of that can be done with regular gears, those aren't just there for boosting speed.
    Every time you place 2 gears right next to each other, the rotational direction flips. So if at the end you are spinning the wrong way, you just need to add one small gear, and another small gear connecting to it, and your rotational direction will be flipped again.
    As for changing your shaft's axis, imagine you start with a shaft on the X axis, and want one on the Z axis.
    One block before that intersection, add a big gear at the end of the shaft on the X axis,
    And one big gear at the end of the shaft on the Z axis.

    Well, great series, but I'm sorry to have to say that, usually, when people say they're bad at building, what they build end up looking okay, if not awesome ... But, the house, the windmill, That's ... too much. Everything else is good, but, ... Your buildings hurt my eyes, sorry ! 😢
