Hey Jessie, just finished my own Alexa Billy hybrid and wanted to say yours looks really awesome. I went Echo Dot instead of RPi to get all the 1p skills (like "drop in") in mine, but I've been thinking about how much stuff could be done with the RPi too. For example the glowing lights for eyes you have done are an awesome touch. I was also thinking of adding the motion sensor back in, and maybe a layer of audio processing to make Alexa sound more fish like. How did you detect audio was playing with the RPi to trigger the animations? Does the Alexa Compatible Billy support drop in?
I like yours too. I saw it on /r/amazonecho yesterday. When I built mine using Alexa Pi and posted it on /r/raspberry_pi a fellow redditor showed me his implementation to animate the mouth on a Christmas tree and I was able to use it on my billy bass. every time gemmy makes a dabbing and twerking product everyone gives those items positive reviews except for Gemmy collectors however it's the complete opposite with the Alexa Billy Bass are people seriously just mad because they can't say Billy Bass and they have to say Alexa for the Billy Bass to respond that's a pretty stupid reason to hate on an item
I think Amazon music just has better integration, you can sign up and try it for 90 days right now. You can link Spotify and Pandora to the Echo and ask Alexa to play from those services. You can also connect your phone via Bluetooth to the Echo and play audio thru the Echo.

I ended up ordering a 3rd gen echo dot and the fish to go along with it. Do you need Amazon Music to get the echo dot to play anything audio related?
