Joel said in a interview he is extremely dyslexic and cheated his whole way through high school. Been a Winger his whole life I guess, but also might explain why he struggles a little to read his lines
I always got the impression he was ok with the first season. It was when the show started getting weirder and more meta, in addition to them making his character more and more racist and bigoted that he really started flipping out.
Nice to hear the cast and crew laughing at his lines too. Pierce had such an amazing potential story arc but it was only ever grazed upon. I love the show but this is the biggest (and really only) problem I have with it overall.
@@matthewcarroll4237 definitely. I can't say too much because I wasnt behind the scenes but what I've gathered is that Chevy was difficult to work with on set, the shooting days would frequently go way overtime, and he pissed alot of people off. I still think ramping his character to be more adamantly racist rather than an out of touch old man who is, yes, racist but with room to change. It seemed to really exacerbate the situation and EVEN if Chevy was too difficult to care about, they could have written Pierce better. To a lesser extent I think Britta's character arc was really off-on. I love the character but in different seasons and episodes she can be very different.
By all accounts he loved season 1, then Dan Harmon decided to completely change the show Chevy signed on for. Add to that, the horrid shooting hours and a character that got super flanderized, and I'd be pissed too. Especially if I was that age.
@@user-zg5ey5xo9i - That's not for the OP, it's for the drive-by scrollers who might see the comment. It's great bc it goes to show how incompetent Chang was at Spanish, so much that he misunderstood the proper term and pronunciation: seh-n-yor.
Ths is what the show would sound like if it had a laugh track. It's awesome for a table read, cause it's clearly real, but dear god, it just reminded me why I love this show for not having one!
this is why community is the best t.v. show out there. Everyone involved looks like they are having fun. and if they are having fun, so is the audience.
@StopTurn He comes back in season 3 (Advanced gay) but it's pretty easily explained when Pierce says "mom liked to pretend that he was dead" (or something like that).
What *HankyChan* said. Every new episode commences with a table read. On almost any scripted show. Whether they're all filmed and shared like this is another matter.
They all said Chevy is a very great actor, just cann't tolerate that awfully long shoting time, which is six day per week, and 12 hours even 14 hours per day, for a half hour sitcom that many hours shoting time is insane. One day in 3am Yvette and Gillian have change they costume and reshot for 304 and they both cry. May be that is also the answer how to make the greatest TV show.
I see less and less evidence that Chevy would be "unhappy with the writing and the hours". Sure he was a rude guy, pretty much a dick but he had no ill intent, and got along with the main cast pretty well. I'm pretty sure it's his constantly escalating friction with Dan that got him to leave
In this episode Pierce's mom says "I saw your father's ghost again" as he's running out of the room. Doesn't his dad come back later in the second season?? #continuity
So THAT'S what Community would sound like with a laugh track....
yes when funny stuff happens. Not after everyline.

The writing is so strong it's almost as funny at the table read
I absolutely love how Ken Jeong has a can of coke next to him. Really validates all the jokes they make on his and Joel's Darkest Timeline podcast
Nice.
Isn't that Joel's?
I love the split screen. Nice touch!
this is great! shame there aren't more table reads on youtube, it's as much fun as the episodes (once youve seen all episodes twice)
