One more vote for setting up a Max. I have a 2020 with 4000lbs water and 1500 lbs lead. The wave is good but I still feel like there is room to make it better. Keep the videos coming. They are awesome.
I have loved watching and learning from all of your videos. We recently purchased the 2022 Moomba Makai we added about a 1000 pounds of lead. We proportioned them throughout the boat. Boat has a pretty decent was just trying to improve on it. I see you suggest at least 1500 pounds of lead. I just ordered another 700 pounds of lead where would recommend I put the additional lead. We have had no success with auto-wake but we have had some success manually setting it up. For regular and goofy we fill both rear bags 100% front bag 85% wake plate between 0-30 we have 1000 pounds of lead spread out around the boat mentioned above. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
We've been running the boat with all balances at 100% without auto wake and have a very successful wave. I have 1500 lb of lead displaced throughout the boat but my pitch is only about 7.5 to 8 should I put more lead in the back of the boat and less lead in the front of the boat? My understanding is without running auto wake I'm not able to use flow 3 is this correct?
Great data in the video! For wakeboarding and wakesurfing, what prop is recommended out of the choices that Moomba provides for the Makai? 15.5x15,16.5, or 18?
Love your videos! Any advice for the Moomba Helix? I have the 2020 Helix and I am struggling to find the optimal configuration with just stock ballast.
I rode in one of those years ago, and it was ok, I don't remember a great wave on that one, but talk to Kyle at California Marine Sports. He told me he was able to later get a better wave with that boat.
Robert do you know how the flow 3.0 system works? Is it supposed to deploy anytime the surf tab is down or is it automatic based off of boat weight/displacement/draft?
Really awesome video. Have you guys ever tried to see how good you can get a surf wave off a $40k heyday wake boat? I can't find any in depth reviews on them but trying to get a wake surfing boat on a budget of a worker college kid.
wake9.com want to meet halfway at Smith Lake, AL lol? I have a Max and Wakemakers upgrade but have trouble really consistently squeezing every bit out of the settings. I watch all your vids and they do help but you’re a master at this by now lol I’m guessing COVID is going to put a damper on polar bear?
@@haknslash yeah, I don't think we can do polar bear, I need to announce. I thought everything would be freed up by now, but its gotten crazier. What year max do you have?
wake9.com yea understandable about Polar Bear but not surprised. Our COVID numbers are dropping here in Alabama finally but it sure does suck wearing this hot mask!!! We have a 2019 Max. I've got lots of vids on my channel of it along the process. Slowly but surely dialing in the wave but the big girl needs lots of ballast to get a big wave especially if it's a light crew like we normally have (usually just my wife and our10 year old daughter when I'm surfing). Was thinking of adding about 500 lbs of lead putting 100 lbs under the bag in the rear lockers, 100 lbs under each helm storage and 100 lbs in the very front of the bow.
First off thanks for your videos, we purchased a 2021 MOOMBA max end of summer 2021. Will you be doing any testing on a Max? I was told by sales man that they did not prefer auto wake and to just fill it up with ballast. I’m excited to get out and start playing with auto wake to see if I can refine my wave. Thanks!
Love your videos and info!! Question, I noticed you said that the SL has a softer wave than the SE or SA. Why might that be? I had a 2018 SA 550 last year and loved it. Upgraded to a 2019 SL 550 and noticed a major difference in the wave, longer and much more push. I’ve never paid much attention to the firmness. Is there a way to make the wave on the SL more firm?
I really don't know exactly what makes one wave firmer than another, but the SL is NO slouch, but it is slightly softer. If you want to feel what I mean by firmer, put your hand in the water at a speed of like 11.2, and then go to 11.6 and put your hand in the water, THAT is firmer. So you an make it firmer by speeding up. Best airs are going to be at the fastest speed you can take. But the SA/SE are a bit firmer IMO at the same speed, than the SL.
wake9.com gotcha that makes more sense. Another question for ya. Out of all three the SA,SL, and SE which do your prefer and why? To me the SL has been much better than my past SA but I pulled next to an SE at the gas station the other day and was shocked how much bigger and deeper it was than my SL side by side had me thinking “water displacement” like you always say. I wonder if it really does surf that much better.
yes, you can't adjust that, I was using a special technique that allowed me to turn it off and on so you could see the difference. I actually had the head engineer in the boat at the time.
We are running a 2021 Max. Always looking for good tweaks to work the wave, especially cleaning up the top. I noticed you have the wakeplate at 25. We normally run it at 10-15. What's your thoughts on having it at 25 vs. a lower setting? BTW, we have 4000lbs stocks and 1200 lead added.
What boards are you and your wife riding? Do you ride the same speed as your kids. I’m a big guy and having a hard time getting off the rope. Getting a custom soul craft made. Just added lead and hoping that’s the ticket with your settings recommendations

Just picked up my 2021 kaiyen with the flow 3.0 system. If all the ballast are 100 percent full, how do you get enough roll on the goofy side without draining some port side ballast? Auto wake is draining my port side quite a bit to get the 4-5 degree roll....
just engaging the surf system will roll the boat over a bit, more on goofy and less on regular. Use a bit of lead to help you set the boat up so that when you turn on goofy, you are at the right roll, and then when you switch to regular, you will probably be about -1 roll, perfect for regular.
2020 makai here with flow 3 upgraded bags is there any difference between 2020 and 2021? i havent seen any info to make me think there is such as hull changes.
also with the upgraded bags how much lead would you suggest? have 250 in the bow as of now and the wave is pretty dang good always trying to improve though
I do not think there are any hull changes. Watch my video on where to put the lead, it will help you know where to put it, it is different depending on where people sit and such.

@@josephfleming6384 Its still good, but the makai is a light boat. As an example, the Supra SE is about the same size and weighs over 1000 lbs more. IMO, you need the lead for the best wave.
I have a 2021 makai with the flow 3.. I am Kinda confused by what you are saying I should have a side surf tab at. Should I have that set to 100? That would be fully deployed correct? Or should it be set to 70? Thank you.
@@thomasstoner622 you need to set it back to default, 100 will not make a good wave IMO. I think default is 70/60, where 70 is the setting for the port plate that makes the goofy wave. You can test that and see your results.
Well 400 is a little but I guarantee you our 2021 Malibu 25 lsv is way taller. 607hp LT4 engine is probably the best but if your budget friendly then just go for the 400hp
