Unpopular nerd Arnie Cunningham (Keith Gordon) buys a 1958 Plymouth Fury, which he names Christine. Arnie develops an unhealthy obsession with the car, to the alarm of his jock friend, Dennis Guilder (John Stockwell). After bully Buddy Repperton (William Ostrander) defaces Christine, the auto restores itself to perfect condition and begins killing off Buddy and his friends. Determined to stop the deaths, Dennis and Arnie's girlfriend, Leigh Cabot (Alexandra Paul), decide to destroy Christine.

I like how Christine was being smart. At first, turning off her motor and lights, pretending it's all over. Then when the time was right. She woke up and fixed herself. Clever girl.

Eren Jaeger Let me end the controversy by saying that 24 cars were bought. The 1958 version of the Plymouth Fury was so scarse that they also got some Belvederes in the hope that no one would notice because the two cars are so identical. Once the film was complete. All but two of the cars were destroyed. One was put in a museum, the other was offered to John Carpenter, but later in 2004 it was sold at an auction. Believe it or not, there was in fact a third car that survived. For the scene where Christine kills Moochie, the front was partially rubber and was being pushed from behind by the bulldozer. At first the car was going to be scrapped but a car enthusiast bought it. It's been featured in many Hollywood car shows ever since.

Omega, you forget that the car was a pretty much forgotten car before the movie. Because of this, no one really liked them and not many had them, and with that combined with being so old, there aren't very many left today.

Why do you think they call them "car guys"? Because they're into cars, and this movie isn't about the cars. It's about the story that just happens to involved a car that's been possessed. The cars aren't even 1% of the focus
Christine loved Arnie Cunningham in her own possessive, obsessive, selfish and deranged way but inadvertently caused Arnie's death in the Final stage of Arnie's supernatural spellbound madness and demonic possession under Christine's influence and power. Christine in my theory was a succubus. A female demonic entity that typically seduces human men in their sleep, except Christine seduced and possessed the male human owners of the Plymouth Fury her demonic spirit possessed on the vehicle assembly line in the 1950's. In both the book and Carpenter's 1983 Hollywood film adaption of Stephen King's Christine. In the book she was possessed by the malevolent ghost of her first and former owner Roland D. Lebay as well.

In both the book by Stephen King and John Carpenter's 1983 Hollywood movie adaption of Christine, Christine herself was always alive and a sentient/self-aware, demonic force/entity possessed 1958 Plymouth Fury with a life, self-aware mind, supernatural powers and abilities, a vengeful, jealous, possessive, murderous female personality and demonic spirit of her own since Christine was built on the assembly line in the 1950's. Imo Christine was a succubus. A female demonic entity, which typically seduces human men in their sleep, but Christine instead seduced and possessed the male human owners of the Plymouth Fury she possessed. Christine possessed the car on the assembly line before Roland D. Lebay bought the car. In the novel, it's told by George Lebay that his older brother was born bad and evil and just became worse as he grew older. Lebay was an elderly war veteran and a violent, mentally ill and unstable, temperamental, sadistic sociopath and became more twisted under Christine's influence and demonic possession. In the book Lebay sacrificed his wife and their infant daughter Rita to Christine as a double Satanic human sacrifice to bound his evil mortal soul to Christine forever and possess Christine in the afterlife.
I'm a bit surprised people don't really bring this part up, but as Christine is getting crushed by the bulldozer, her odometer looks like it's going from 00001 to 99999. I always assumed the reason for that was after Arnie dies, she loses her main source of love and energy to feed off of. The odometer seems to represent her state of strength and power, because throughout the movie it starts to go in reverse as she feeds off of Arnie's spirit and affections more and more. Once she loses the person who was devoted to her and fueled her (no pun intended), she starts to lose her strength and returning her to her weak condition as she was in the beginning.
Of course, that's just my theory.

According to Wikipedia, "Christine" (the car) was possessed by the spirit of Roland Leby, the original owner who committed suicide inside the car. However, as we saw at the start of the movie "Christine" is simply "a '58 Fury possessed by Hell."

@@billyb4790 Using the eyes of when I was a little child and saw this, I failed very much to grasp the romantic part. For me, the injustice feeling was that of realizing the loneliness of Christine. For me, it was depressing to imagine being the only sentient car in a world of humans. I knew she was a killer car, but her killings were justified during the movie, it was always the bullies which acted first. And when the final scene came and Arnie is the one driving the bulldozer along with his girlfriend, it felt like such a betray. Christine being all alone with no one to side with her, and being forced into an unfair match using heavy machinery. I'm aware that that wasn't the director's intention, but that was what I interpreted back then. The final time the radio powers itself, I told my mom: "Look! She is going to repair herself!". And maybe my mom thought I was telling that out of fear and looking at Christine as a menace, so she replied: "No, she is destroyed beyond repair". And all my hope was gone with that phrase.

Christine never died nor was permanently destroyed in either the movie adaption by John Carpenter or the book by Stephen King. At the end of the book of Christine, it's stated in the end from the first person narration and pov of Dennis Guilder, who was one of the two only sole survivors of Christine's murderous vehicular killing spree, that Christine has regenerated herself again, and, alongside the evil, demented human ghost of her late former owner Roland D. Lebay, who possessed Christine was he died as an elderly man in the beginning of the book after selling Christine, who was always sentient, alive and demon possessed from the start in the book as well, and Lebay's evil ghost possessed Christine as well as Arnie when driving Christine and repairing her and later possessed Arnie's body when he wasn't driving Christine except when Arnie was asleep and Lebay's ghost drove Christine to kill her/their victims including Buddy Repperton and his juvenile delinquent gang of typical bullying thugs, Will Darnell inside of his own home versus killing Darnell in his car lot garage inside of Christine as in the movie, etc. Christine was coming for both Dennis and Leigh, Roland's brother George Lebay and anyone else who crossed or wronged Lebay or Christine.
