Chet Atkins "Theme From A Dream"

- The melody sounds just like the title...dreamy. As if one is closing their eyes at the fading light of nocturne..and Chet captures the mood perfectly. The harmonic section at the end is the icing on the cake. The playing is sophisticated enough to really demonstrate the the young man from the hills with a guitar in his hand had FAR surpassed his rustic roots. It's no wonder Mr guitar earned his reputation and earned all the awards and accolades that he did during his career. He will NEVER be equaled.
From the "Hollywood" album -
Chet will never be experienced again. He was once in this universe. He was born a legend, from poor to guitar master. And he was a modest and great person. He gave me a life's passion of playing his tunes. Im 82 and am going to fire up my modified Fender Deluxe (per Paul and Rivera) and play into the sunset playing 'I love how you love me ' God bless Chet for his gift to us.
Brings me back to my parent's wild cocktail parties in the early sixties. I used to sit at the top of the stairs and listen. All those people are long gone now. So yes, this is very appropriately titled because it all seems like a dream to me now.
Chet's talent was truly magical. There will never be such a guitarist or person again...Jack Baker NYC
I'm with you flydog ... I could listen to this all day and have listened to it over and over and over many times and had no idea how many times I listened to it and still LOVE it...
You and me both. Brings joy and love to your heart. He was truly amazing.
One of the finest pieces of guitar music ever recorded, by anyone, ever. I have 2 copies of this on vinyl.
Rich chords, beautifully done. His music breathes like it is alive.
I have been listening to Chet play some extremely beautiful music like this,
for a long time. The ones that can jerk tears from your eyes...and mine too!
I heard Chet sixty years ago as a young teen and began getting his records on 45. I was able to find some old 78s that have long gone the way of the wind. Then began the years of the LPs and then CDs. What an influence on my life, not only as a guitarist, but Chet was a honorable man with class. (one wife and no scandals) His ability to pick great singers and songwriters is almost unequaled in this business.
Most incredible music ever. Could listen all day.
I'm a player and a Chet lover,
first time I heard this ethereal piece, my god it is wonderful!
I own just about all of Chet's albums. Every one of them is special. But my favorite is probably the "Hollywood" album.
However, the album that originally got me started playing Chet's style was "Fingerstyle Guitar". For years I wondered "How did Chet do that" on so many of those tunes. All of my pickin' kept me off of the streets when I was growing up.
Thanks Chet and thanks for posting so many of these wonderful songs, Doug.
could listen to this all day
It's so true, there will never be another one like Chet. Just listen...
The very first Chet album I ever heard was the Chet Atkins in Hollywood album. I've been a "Chet Freak" ever since. No one could ever convince me he's not the greatest guitar stylist of all time. His music is perfection realized.
What great beauty, Chet played with perfect timing, tone, and feel.He is a true inspiration.
He could inspire, but never equalled.
Truly Beautiful. It always amazed me how he could pour his feelings through his fingers. Thanks for posting.
Truly, Chet is a blessing.
in very rare instances can you hear a soul playing. chet always played his soul out to us mortals. this is as good as it gets. we can die now konwing we heard Gods voice speak to us.
This man was incredable!!!!!!!
This song moves one to tears it is so beautiful.
I've always liked Chet Atkins! We grew up on his music and my brothers learned to play some of his songs as a kid! I wish that I could have met him in person! He gave many people breaks into the music industry! He is greatly missed!
It's strange, beautiful and intriguing. A great interpretation by Chet. Another great version is Al Hirt's Honey in the Horn album.
Absolutely gorgeous and so beautifully played by Chet...Jack Baker NYC
Chet was my inspiration more than anyone else for many many years. I played this tune on my youtube videos and it could not compare with the great one but I do thank you Chet for showing me how to play this tune somewhere below ten percent of the quality with which you performed it. We miss you but you will live on forever through your music.
Absolutely Beautiful! Every time!! Real tear jerker....
I have this on CD even, and my god how much better it sounds on nice speakers, this really doesn't do this beautiful song justice. His guitar tone is like no other.
I can listen to, and appreciate, all the good guitar players out there - in any genre imaginable, from fusion to jazz to country - but still NOTHING beats listening to Chet Atkins play things like this. Aaaaabsolutely gorgeous....
toomanygittars
I totally agree!!!

"there will never be another Chet" (period!) ;o)
Never.
The man was a genius, this is wonderful.
Great picture of Chet for this tune. Chet always has a way of captivating those listening because of how awesome he plays. The guitar in this just has the perfect blend of reverb and delay to create an atmosphere that is exactly what the title says, dreamy. I recently videoed an arrangement I made of this tune on my channel if you would like to listen.
I have not seen a collection such as this before. There are so many of Chets masterpieces on here that I've not heard before. Thank you so much for making it available.

You are welcome!
If I still had a pc, I'd post another 500. (I think I have posted around 500.)
You're absolutely right.
I've been a member of TH-cam for many years, and I've never favorited a video until now. Thanks for the beautiful music.
I can believe you. Haven't heard anything like it sense.
A master in action.
Beautiful song.. Any song can take you to so many places... if you just let it...
Beautiful! I fell in love with this the first time I heard this over RJ FM...
Wonderful, and incomparable. I first heard Chet playing ,the Theme from the film, ''The Dark at the Top of the Stairs''. in 1961. Like this recording -(which is new to me, ) it was melodic and wonderful, with full orchestral backing. As a teenager then, I loved the Shadows and other Guitar groups like 'The Ventures'', but was 'blown away' as they say, by this mans brilliance. To my surprise, I soon discovered that his fame, lay in US Country Music, and that this style, was not typical of him, and in fact, upset some of his hardened 'Country' Fans. Great tallent will show itself, regardless of genre.
Lovely melody and a great photo
Always Chet. Thanks for posting.
Such beautiful, rich tone and melody. Thanks for posting this vid!
A wonderful compliment, thanks for telling us.
I absolutely loved that!
This album changed the way I view music
Amazing
Im happy!!, I found my song!
So very relaxing and beautiful; As always. Thanks
this is heaven. today was such a rough day, it brought peace to my mind... :)

A few molds have been broken recently. I just love guitar played by anyone with a passion. Amateurs or pros. I quite like hearing the mess-ups, the bum notes, the human side. Gives the rest of us an edge. Know what I mean?
the Greatest ever….No one comes close...
Well put, Chris.
Les Paul may beg to differ
Totally agree regarding finger style guitar! With a flatpick I vote for Gary Moore. The only two guitarists that can bring me to tears.
@@wolfhawk1999 Love Les!!!
@@williamwettin7376 gary Moore is amazing! but all around players Chet is so tuff to beat!! In blues Rock....Gary moore may be the best ever!
Still listening.
anyone noticed like radioheads exit music (for a film) sounds a lot like this?
literally just said that to my bro...radioheads my favorite band but shame on them lol
Just consider the great starting place Chet gave all the new guitarists. They don't have to start in the hills and figure it out, they can start somewhere along the continuum he scribed.
+Ron Carpenter well said Ron, they got all the info right here on the web ,doesn't show them how to have feel ect though ,thats personal.
Well...it's certainly dreamy
If life was so sweet and care free.....xoxo
The options there are download tunes in midi or tab. Use the tab option.and download the desired songs from the list. Then copy the tef file to the tabledit folder and you can hear it and view it on the fingerboard graphic either at the bottom of the screen or sometimes on the right side. You can pause it at any point or slow it down and learn the tune. It is great. There are other sites where you can find Chet's tef files for many of his songs also. Hope this is helpful.
somehow the beginning reminded me of 'Lady Magnolia' by Piero Umiliani (synth music haha). maybe it's just me, but this is kinda mindblowing
and yeah, beautiful. classic Chet. Trying to buy a new guitar I can try this on
Would love for you to post video of you playing it. My son plays some Chet for me. He says songs are much easier to learn if he can see guitarist play. Good picking.
nice Melodie
I don't yet have equipment to make videos but a great program I used to learn many Chet Atkins tunes is Tabledit. It plays tef files and even has a guitar fretboard that shows where all the notes are played as the song progresses. To get a free demo version which is all you need enter "Tabledit" in a search window and download the program. Then enter "Chet Atkins fretted instrument NYC" in search window and it will take you to a bunch of Chet's tunes. I will continue this in next reply.
This is just amazing! Tabs? (If there is any)
If anyone knows where you can get the sheet music for this let me know
@daffydoug
This is a "BIG TASTE OF HEAVEN".

Al Hirt did another great version of this beautiful song on his 1962 "Honey in the Horn" album.
And that album was produced at the Nashville Sound recording studio by none other than Chet Atkins!
@KnDStudios I just meant that when heroes hit the odd duff note, you know perfection isn't really necessary
I am on my ipad listening to this song and my family is listening to it, and they are falling asleep :)
What's the accuracy at 3:20, really nice theme
@1loboestepario Gods gift to the man!
God is good, all the time. But when he made Chets fingers,
he must've broke the pattern There willl never be another...

I cannot find the composer of this music. Does anyone kow?
He had a lot great covers like this... his Brahm's lullaby should not be played while driving. The one I cannot find in digital form is "A Time For Us" AKA "Love Theme From Romeo and Juliet". If you want mp3's, shoot me an email and I will send a list of his songs that I have.
what is he covering here? it sounds so familiar, its driving me nuts haha
why did God do that, break the mold? It's like saying God took him away. The other night I dreamt I was talking to my dad, not realizing that at the time that he had passed on in real life, asking him why he had to move out of mom's house. He replied that there wasn't enough light there. I implored him to come back, desperately trying to persuade him that I could open up that part of the room, rearrange this, do that. He just looked at me and said "you don't understand".
rocketail wow.
you've heard chet's song about his dad right?
pretty deep comment you wrote there. I have dreams my mother is still alive and she's just different in them. Like she doesn't love as much, and has no interest in making amends (but I'm always trying to get close to her, because in reality shes dead). In dreams you get to hear their voice in living color instead of black and white memories.
Of the two versions of "Chet Atkins in Hollywood "This is the first version. The CD you can buy now online is the second version and not as good as this one. I don't know why he did a second the first was perfect.
Harold Doherty
I believe he changed gauges on his strings which accounted for the difference in tone.
Daff
This is my favorite Chet number and second is Stephen Foster medley he was and still is the greatest guitarist in my opinion but a lot of the magic was the Gretsch 58s I think when he went to Gibson he sacrificed a lot of tone but not badmouthing the Gibson CG they just sound like a Gibson and a Gretsch sounds like Chet
I agree fully with that...and not only Chet ..lost a certain tonality when he went to Gibson from gretsch
Ennio Morricone The Sicilian Clan
Duplicates are not allowed in my favorite playlist :(
Doug, Do you know if Chet's grandson plays any ? Or any of his family ? Just Curious. Thanks ever so much. Merry Christmas.
pattykake19
Not to my knowledge.

un dieux ce chet
Believe it or not we all have different speakers.
I agree, NEVER
I wanted to Favorite this but TH-cam said "Duplicates are not allowed"
I also raped the replay button :3
Compare the tonality, timing and sound of this compared with today's Rap Crap. Glad that I got to grow up listening to this as a kid. Every song he played was done in his unique style. You only had to hear the first few measures to know it was Chet.
something something probably the jews
chopin???
The beginning sounds like "How insensitive"
@Rikk303 no no i do not
Reminds me of Max Payne
Chet's playing is fabulous here. However, I really don't care for the syrupey strings that were added. Nashville producers did that a lot back in those days...
However I believe this album, Hollywood, was actually done in LA and not Nashville.
