I have so much love, respect and admiration for all animals! It hurt me to see them in any kind of pain and this head butting looks so intense that it must hurt in some way! 😣
Yes, mating battles among many species can be tough as they work out who's superior genetics strengthens the next generation. Bighorn Rams are especially gifted and designed to handle these impacts. We often see head butts that also appear to be "sparring" at times, so they "practice" this as well.

Do they get their horns entangled and not come apart doing all this head banging ? 🤔🤕
They often tangle up, but we have never seen them have any trouble separating. They seem to know their horns very well.. often even using the tips to annoy or target a poke to an eye of their most competitive opponents. Thank you Sue!
