Mark had a great point in his answer to your question about whether having your usual crowd around or a wild crowd is better for testing new material. It makes sense that a wild crowd will keep you more grounded and give it to you straight
Man, I first clicked on this channel to see a run-of-the-mill "best of" compilation video, but after a year of watching it's clear how genuinely passionate you are about the comedy scene. I love the fact that there is someone hovering on the outside, observing everything and having a good time, just like the rest of us are. We have a channel that brings the best of this comedy world to the forefront, and for that I am grateful. Keep it up!
It is so much more refreshing than the basement dwelling ankle biting manchildren that just want to hate on all wrong-thinking comedians, stir up drama, destroy careers, and live in misery. (looking at you reddit and certain youtube channels)
I have to agree. This video put the Joke WRLD host on the map for me. His questions were really insightful... he clearly has a passion for comedy and really wants to understand the Mark's process. I'm an instant fan of JWRLD after this.
Just watched the Page to Stage. Definitely worth the $3, less than the price of a cup of coffee. I appreciate Mark showing us how much work it is to come up with a 40 second bit.
Great idea! This could be Marks Comedians in Cars. He always says his management push him to do more and this is a great way to do that and stay authentic. Can’t wait to watch it. Great interview too!
Sorry glazer, TV Is still far, far more popular then any YT video... If you think TV died you are retarded, maybe go on Bobby Lee's or Theo Von's podcast if that's the case?
Superb interview. Fascinating to hear the pros and cons of plying to your crowd or not. Bit of a relief to see a comedian the calibre of Mark still bombs like us all!
You and Normand ALWAYS have really great interviews. He always recognizes you for asking really great questions and that just makes me super happy and I don't know why.
It's been really Amazing watching JokeWrd grow from the start. Dude! You're really doing it. Congratulations. And to Mark, anything Normand does is hilarious, so he could pick an open mic level dude/dudette. I'll still watch.
I like how Normand writes. Off-hand notes on every kind of surface of paper. That shows to me he writes notes as soon as an idea comes, but doesn’t overwork it. Rogan talks SO much about writing and how difficult it is. I think that’s over-working the art. I think some of the best comedians experiment with pace, set up, and the premise on stage and work it out there. Normand seems like he’s the best of both. He reminds me of Norm and he has that same dry delivery
I bought page to stage halfway through the video and loved it. Definitely worth it. I really hope it does well enough and other comics hop on board for future episodes!
It feels like Mark is really hitting his stride and I think properly using his newly acquired Netflix resources and spending it on showing his genius. Love it. Hope I can see him live one dat
A page to stage with Shane would be amazing and maybe a side skit of a dramatized version of the story of Shane on the train learning the SNL news between stops.
8:43 it's funny when you look at the scale of things. The same way you can compare a mega music tour to comedy you can do the same for video games to movies/music.
Surely the next episode should be Shane then Sam the one after.. I’d say Sam first, but Shane’s a biiig ticket right now.. this episode is a dream for fans of mark. Looking forward to it
Page To Stage is pretty fantastic. Could be Mark Normand's Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee. After it was over, I wanted to see that same exact behind-the-scenes process for every one my favorite comedians.
I love just the insight of how he writes his stuff. Good to know how he starts joke premises, at least I know I'm kinda doing the same thing I just need stage time lol. Great video! -Thomas
Gotta see Shane next after this and Ari gotta do the whole pod. Id love to see it thru the whole circle of comedians. I tried writing jokes and its incredibly hard to do one i like myself. Guess ill stick to guitar im actually pretty good at that that 😂
Absolutely spot on! It's fascinating to see how much effort goes into crafting a single joke-comedy is truly an art form. I remember trying to test a new punchline at an open mic, and it bombed miserably. Even when a joke doesn't land, there's a unique connection formed in those awkward moments. I enrolled in the Sense of Humor Improvement Program by Habit10x, which helped me understand that humor often thrives on vulnerability and timing. Keep pushing through the tough sets-each attempt brings you closer to finding your comedic voice!
Damn.. just started out doing standup a couple months back.. this is literally my whole premise on my channel... Posting bombs, bad sets, and good sets. Comedy feels like skateboarding to me.. it's gonna take 100, 200, 500 tries before landing the 900 like Tony Hawk lol.. and the whole writing process and testing material and watching crowd reactions is my favorite part about this. I'm a remote working dad w/ young kids, and don't get as many mics as some other comics.. so I'm working with the limited data i gather from different locations/demographics of ppl. 😁
Not a new idea, Owen Benjamin did a podcast like this called "Why Didn't They Laugh" , but it is great to see the different perspectives on comedy creation.
Shout out Mark for the interview! Check out Page to Stage here: punchup.live/marknormand/page-to-stage/checkout

Mark trying to intentionally have the worst quality, still love it.

Smart of you to let Mark handle his own audio this time :P

Comedians in clubs writing jokes.
That’s a good premise for a show
Dude that’s incredible
I like to think Norm passed the Torch to Mark, and maybe he did in private
Best content on the scene rn
I can't find it. Where do you watch Page to Stage?
Dan Soder, Jeff Ross, Dave Attell would be cool to see. But yeah a very interesting idea!
This looks like it could be this generations "Comedian" doc.
Perfect background music.

JokeWRLD is the Sean Evans (Hot Ones) of comedy interviews.
Such a brilliant idea
Gonna Watch that show. Seems interesting to see Kevin write and test a joke…
Dont ever get rid of the 240p format interviews lmao

Y’know there was a comedy bubble in the 80s and 90s. It collapsed along with all the clubs that sprang up.
