      Agreed. I never knew her name but I recognize her from other things. I adore JLD but the mom makes the whole sketch.

    Julia was 22 at the time. Jim was 29 and Mary was 30 and yet they do a good job of making it seem believable that they're her parents.

      My 1st semester in college it took me a whole month to realize I was the only non-white person in 2 of my classes.
      Also fun fact: Julia's son and I went to the same university. He was a senior when I was a freshman

      I thought it was funny. It’s strange how our overall sense of humor changes over time. And how in different countries different things are considered funny. Vastly different. This has been a reflection by Roy. And that’s not my real name.

      Yea idk. It’s probably not funny to me because I’ve seen this bit redone a thousand ways now. On the first airing it was prbly pretty funny tho. Gotta hand it to them this came off like a recorded sitcom, can’t barely tell this was a live take

    Julia’s acting ability is much better than the other two. But I’m impressed that no one is looking at cue cards.

    Jim was in one of my fav skits of all time- please post ‘Tag You’re it’ - when someone sneaks in through the window in the middle of the night and touches him while he is sleeping and says ‘you’re it’- then the next day, the whole city tries to avoid him.

    That's funny, I didn't get along with my dad either! I got along with my grandma & my mom! My grandma was my best friend too! As a 17 year old the Priest wanted me to give half of the eulogy & I did! It was so easy to do I just told everyone how good my grandma treated me! I got a standing ovation.
    The priest was right, if I told my story it will be more emotional and down to life!

      It's called programming. It's a slow drip with things that sound insane until they are beaten into the public psyche, then the faucet is turned on full blast. An unfunny skit to bring ignorant ideas to the public. Look how far we've degraded as a society since then.

    I think I remember reading once that Julia didn't have fond memories working on SNL. But then she joined Seinfeld and the rest is history. She's fantastic ❤

    The mother was me for so many years and when I finally spoke up I was considered a bitch to my daughter. She wasn’t used to it. Don’t get me wrong my husband was good to both of us...separately. He doesn’t know what to do.

    No way this would be made today. First, they memorized the dialogue, and today they only read cue cards. Second, it's smart, it's provoking, it's well acted. There is no way this would be done today

    But where’s the comedy and what’s the joke? It’s interesting to see Julia so young but this is barely a comedy skit. Also Jim Belushi is the touch of death towards comedy but even without him the premise isn’t funny.

    Great acting all around. It felt like this was part of a really good satire play but as a skit for SNL this missed the mark. Not funny, not bad, not good, but more like. umm wHat?

      It might have been more weird than funny when it aired but that's because it was way ahead of its time, and has aged incredibly. "Woke" college girl talking down to her parents after spending a few months in the city... genius

    Somehow I must have missed or zoned out the 1983 season (and not for any fun reasons). I just know when I first saw the show Seinfeld it was mentioned that she was from SNL and I was surprised. I have no idea how I could've missed that!

    The beginnings of "woke" were in the 1960's. This skit was pointing out how extreme it was making the kids. Sadly, no one took it seriously at the time, nor got this joke and now we have what we have. Too bad more fathers weren't like this.
    Indeed, SNL has become a sad parody of itself.

    Well, _that_ was embarrassing. Luckily she got on a show with better writers. Come to think of it, Larry David was writing for SNL at the time, but they only ever used one of his bits. Obviously, this one was not it.
