you're going to have to come to terms with the fact that some people like denardo coleman's drumming, even if you don't. his musical voice is rather singular and appealingly idiosyncratic. i love his playing particularly on "tales of captain black". denardo did a stint in the long-standing downtown nyc punk-jazz band curlew, with george cartwright, bill laswell, nicky skopelitis and tom cora. i assume you know who those guys are. they're pretty "great", if you ask most people
Denardo's a clever and sensitive drummer. He's got a comparatively poor technique but he can be really effective. I heard him playing with Ornette several times and I always found him no less than appropriate.
ok my day was made. That was an GREAT! performance. Now I may be wrong..... but iT looks like good old Rudy McDaniel on the bass. You know... Jamaaladeen Tacuma? Thank you thank you ...you tube RULES!!!
I read somewhere that there are 3 names in Jazz: Louis Armstrong. Thellonious Monk and Ornette. The rest is filling material the article stated. :))) (10 years too late but its never too late huh?) :))) ( I am 68 BTW)
i don't agree that this sounds much like Beefheart...they're in the same universe, perhaps..but....i mean, i guess Ornette sounds more like Beefheart than, say, Stravinsky...but what's that saying?
Quote - "Denardo is and will always remain the worst drummer on earth." Complete exaggeration - he may not be to everyone's taste including mine at times - yet he is saying something which his father appreciates. Otherwise why would the master, Ornette, have him there. Certainly not for paternal support reasons, since I believe Ornette regards musician quality as paramount.
I realy love Ornette Coleman! this tune is so good for my ears!
Posting clips like this is justification for the existence of the internet. Thanks.
thanks for posting this! I love this era of Coleman's, some of the most out there stuff ever.
brother jackson is loving every minute of it!

An aural spectacle...Ornette is something else!
@midzulo Well done what excellent recommendations - you have fine taste, especially the vastly underated Fred Frith.
fierce drum duets
Ornette gave us something that wasn't here, and when he left he left it with us. ( Slight misquote from Ornette Colemans meltdown ) :))))
bravisimo!!!!
celestial
wow
its weird how 5 instruments can be playing completly different things but it can sound so good!
@doooobies332 Try listening to Coltrane's the Father, The Son and The Holy Ghost...what a crazy ride that song is, haha!
it is absolutely not jamaaladeen tacuma. he was not on this tour. the bass player is fred williams.
im only 18 but really liking this, i would love to be able to develop my interest in jazz. Do anyone have any recomendations for my situation?
