    One thing I have the same Manfrotto and don't know if you know this, there's legs for it that's another reason for the screws and you can turn it into a tripod! There's like a off center mount you can buy it's like 15 Degree so when you rest it as a tripod your gimbal will stay straight

    About 5 years ago, I put a picture on Instagram of my gimbal attached to a Manfrotto monopod and fixed to the shoe of my old Manfrotto tripod. Made a cheap camera boom. Manfrotto did a like on my photo, maybe that is what gave them the idea.

    is there any danger of the gimbal getting unscrewed from the gimboom like when it's twisting?

    • @joetaravella
      @joetaravella  ปีที่แล้ว

      As long as you make sure that you have both hands on the Gimboom and don’t have one hand on the gimbal handle it shouldn’t unscrew.

    Hi Joe, how’s that small gimbal pole extension holding on?
    I was looking for reviews on the Gimboom and found your video. I was almost buying the gimboom, but this smaller one seems interesting as it would easily fit in a carry on bag. Gimboom, according to BH Photo Video, won’t fit vertically inside something like a Pelican 1535 carry on hard case, only diagonally, but that would kill the space.
    I also just sent an email to the seller of this smaller gimbal pole, the email was on the Amazon seller page, asking if they would make the exact same product, only doubling the thickness of it.
    This was a great find you did, but I’m honestly skeptical to place a RS2 + FX3 with a cage, and my Tamron 35-150mm. My setup is almost about 8Kg (~18lb) and boy, I wouldn’t enjoy seeing this hitting the floor.
    So, yeah, how’s that holding on?

      It is holding up. I will say one annoyance that I have with it is the telescoping motion of having to turn it from the bottom because this means that my one hand is way up by the gimbal, and my other hand is way down at the bottom and it’s just not a very comfortable position to be turning it. That being said I have used it for quite a few different occasions and so far it is holding up great. Considering the weight of your set up, I would not recommend it. I definitely would not trust having that much weight extend it on the end of the pole. The manfrotto FAST Gimboom would be a better solution for you. It’s unfortunate that the length is too long for your carrying solution.

      @@joetaravella thanks for the reply Joe. Hopefully the seller manage to see my suggestion and produce a thicker version.
      Now, considering what you said, I do wonder if it’s possible that you can lock the extended position by only twisting at the top and the middle sections, instead of needing to twist using the last bottom section. Like, just use the bottom section to open up the locking mechanism, and then twisting the middle section to lock the full extended position.
      Is it possible?

    • @joetaravella
      @joetaravella  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @ ok I just tried what you said and yes you can do that. You can twist the middle portion and it will lock however the bottom handle part would be loose but it would make it easier to lock/unlock in increments like that as opposed to needing to lock the bottom handle. Thanks!

    interesting review, love the manfrotto, but one idea, if you do that for long periods, and with heavy rigs, the Steadicam Tango, or the like would be a better option, as the chest vest holds the weight of the rig, on the hips, not the shoulders, and the arm's springs do most of the heavy lifting.

    • @joetaravella
      @joetaravella  ปีที่แล้ว

      yes of course a steadicam would be better for longer periods.
