I used to be a licensed contractor in Clearwater Florida, I warned people when they open up the borders all the shotty work that was being done. I couldn’t even get a job because they believed the people that were lying because there prices were cheep

True! Im going to go a bit further, though. The insurance company low balls what it would take to fix a home. Years ago, we had massive roof damage, screens in the patio blown out, and damage to our aluminum patio roof. The insurance company that we had for 25 years and never made a claim on in all those years gave us $ 2300. Then cancelled us. Just do the math on the damage and what we were given. We went with the lowest quote and had to take out a 2nd mortgage just to fix the main roof and not all the patio damage. We had to do that in order to get new insurance. Insurance for what?! They dont come through with what is needed to fix. I can guess many others deal with the same thing. I dont know of anyone who has thousands in their bank account to pay out of pocket so you use house as collateral and hope for the best. Then, you are in massive debt for years upon years! Insurance is a joke!! Im pretty sure that we all would love to have the best contractor's, but the insurance sees to it that we have to go cheaper. It sucks!! Take right now...i have damage but the insurance went up years ago from that claim ( that we got next to nothing from) from 1 grand a year to 2800. Plus the deductible went up from 500 to $ 5000. To make a claim is pointless. Its ridiculous!! With milton my screens are out in patio, front window has a leak and leakage in kitchen from soffit outside at bottom. 5 grand deductible, not worth reporting. Either way ive got to fix it. Hard to do living alone being disabled and living on 850 a month for bills and food. We dont choose these situations, they just happen. Anyway i think thats why people try to choose cheaper contractors. Its not by choice, its by no choice. I hope you have found a good job as a licensed contractor. It sounds like they're going after the unlicensed, plumbers and electricians which I kind of get. I wouldn't warrant somebody off the streets rewiring my house I didn't know you had to have a license as a painter. How much does it cost to maintain a license for painting?

Im a local construction guy helping so many after this disastrous situation its saddening what folks have lost. Its sick people could steal from those who loss and those rebuilding they steal tools has happen near my jobs also stealing money thats just bullshit i care about these people getting back in thier homes. Also why hasn’t the home owners insurance companies jumped into action by now to help the insured prevent this from happening ? Why are the home owners insurance corporations sending in out of town contractors that are not properly licensed ?

The worst part is if you can pass a background check and have the money you can just get the license for anything, you don't have any requirement to actually be able to do the job. It ends up with the little guy who makes a mistake being a "fraud" the big company who makes a mistake, it's the customers problem.
I think this is important, though I have to ask if people who just want to help are getting caught in the screening process. Also one needs only watch a few YT vids to know a license doesn't mean you know what they are doing only that they paid for a license.
Jail is good but they get released so soon. Having ICE is great but sending them back seems a waste of resources of our valuable servants;our law enforcement personnel/agencies because they just find a way back. My prayers are with our finest law enforcement and the people affected by the hurricanes.
